With this performance I can see why this makes so much more sense within the context of Japan. There's a lot of sweetness about this song but each way I've seen it preformed (Western/English) it just doesn't seem to sit right, especially since Mario & Pauline just met & he has Peach. Now it makes a lot more sense.

Actually, Mario and Pauline have known each other quite a while. She was the OG girl that Mario was trying to rescue, way back in Donkey Kong when he was known simply as Jumpman.
