the true mystery of this whole show is why Mr. Poe just can't stop coughing
Joelle Hale he’s immune to Meducoid Mycillium but he still suffered side effects (idk how to spell it)
@@chriswinterfield6628 How do you know?
He always has a cold.
Spoilers from the book, The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations:
In the book (page 66), it stated that Freeman revealed that to him, Mr. Poe’s cough was an expression of insecurity. It also comes when he’s stressed or, when he is in a bind.

I can just imagine putting a bee in my mouth

Omg I have watched the series like five times and have it memorized but i love it and hate how dewy danumou dies same with lary your waiter ☹☹😫😫😣
I miss it so much...theres so much more out there....and yet nothing more to discover....olaf is dead...as well as beatrice and dewey...and their parents....and larry your waiter(may he forever rest in the big resturant in the sky)...but they still prevailed....and this is where it ends?i really hoped there would be more...i cried so hard....
The fact that Poe's smiling while singing this shows how he doesn't actually care about the children. It's chilling.
I'd say it's more that he's completely oblivious as to what the song actually means.
Mr. Poe may be mind- bendingly incompetent and have no clue about things right in front of him, but I wouldn't call him intentionally apathetic.
He is just stupid
I wouldn't say that...
Often in the books he's shown to care about them ( at the end of the third book he hugged them as an example , he allowed them to live in his house at the beginning... Even bought clothes for them when he wasn't forced too ).
Even in the series.
He's just completely oblivious to everything that is happening. Ironically he's the most naive character of the series ( either in the book / series or moovie ).
And that's quite hilarious considering he's working in a bank and is supposed to be very clever and careful about everything..... which he isn't of course... lol.
@mintyxmoonlight Jesus Christ this killed me 😂
@mintyxmoonlight THIS EXACTLY ^^
Violet has a really nice, soft undertone in the song. It makes it all the more pleasing to the ears.

Anyone else want a musical based on Lemony Snicket now?
YES!
JoyStar They could easily just use the songs from this show and write some new ones
They could also use the songs that would play before the audiobooks
+Carlisle the Cinephile There were songs before the audiobooks?! Dang, that's awesome! Feels like I missed out reading the books though. XD
JoyStar Yeah they were done by a band called The Gothic Archives. Not only that but they were read by none other than Tim Curry.
I always liked Lemony Snicket’s interpretation of adults in A Series of Unfortunate Events. The majority were oblivious to the Baudelaire’s claims of Count Olaf and they went ignored, thinking it was the wild imagination of children. They believed what they saw on the surface rather than looking at the signs and bad acting. The bad adults in the book exploited this, using fear and influence to make their misdeeds go unnoticed or played down. The good adults who listened and believed the Baudelaire’s were typically ignored by the other adults, didn’t have enough power to stop anything, or they were too passive to speak up to those higher than them.

This comment literally just made me LOL.
Probably why he never kills him... Poe was responsible for leading the kids straight back to Olaf multiple times.
poe really needs to get that cough checked

Daniel Handler has coleborated with the writters.
And unlike traditional in-studio writting rooms, they worked at Daniel's home, and he cooked meals for them.
It was a unique experience for Handler, and it spoiled him, as he's afraid he wouldn't be able to do it any other way in possible future projects.

I feel like we see a side of Count Olaf that he tries to hide when he sings, a much sadder side.
ThatDorkCrow it is quite sad , watch the 3 season
I love how they handled his character. They exsplained why he was and did what he did. But in a way to say yes he's still a villain, but he's also human.
"Seeing in black and white" is a way of saying that a person looks at the world in a manner that is oversimplified and often incorrect. Like many newspaper, the daily punctilio is printed in black and white, and its look at the world is oversimplified and often incorrect

I don't know how to feel about Poe in this series I don't remember how he was in the books or movie but I remember never questioning if he was dropped on his head as a baby it's the lines like the one about Stephano he says in wide window he just seems dumber than usual here
Mr Critical I think in the books he was a little more likable. He's super oblivious in both but to me it seems that in the books he cared a little more about the orphans.
Basically I remember only slightly disliking Mr. Poe in the books but I despise him in the Netflix series.
I just now realized, after listening to the song so many times, that each of the singers actually convey the emotion their character is feeling at that moment. I only heard that once I listened to the song without watching the video.
Lemony is matter-of-fact with a hint of regret.
Olaf is sinister with a hint of glee.
Poe is happy and oblivious.
Klaus has almost given up.
Violet is holding back tears. At one point you can even hear her voice almost go into crying, just to be picked back up slightly again.
Sunny is angry and sinister at the same time, which you can hear even if it's only whistling.

Noticed something that really gets to me here: Lemony talks about how he loved Beatrice, but all he says of her feelings is that she "thought well of" him. How heartbreaking is it that he has such a low opinion of himself, he doesn't think the love of his life felt the same way about him?
I know, some of you might feel that I am overthinking it.
Coral Roper well she did write a giant book explaining why they couldn't be together.
He adores her it’s so sad, his feelings never died and he still thinks of her constantly. He’s in constant agony over the loss of his love. I can’t even imagine what it must be like to rely on someone and love them that much for them to meet such a sudden and horrible death. I really love Snickets character and it’s so cute how much he talks about her, he’s so easy to sympathise with.
Well it makes sense why she couldn't marry him... But I think it's so interesting how Beatrice Baudelaire writes a whole BOOK to answer an almost simple question...
If you find the Beatrice Letters, there is an almost 4-page segment of one them where every sentence starts with “I love you like/as” and it’s just simile upon Snicket-y simile describing how much he loves her and it’s really sweet. And really heartbreaking.
Coral Roper he was deep in the friendzone
Two years later and this song still haunts me. Really the highlight of all three seasons imo.
7 years ago? Dang, time goes by real fast

JelloApocalypse What I want to know is how they are going to fit two children in a fountain and how they will make the submarine work. But I'm curious on how they can portray Eśme as well.

I love Mr. Poe in this. Everyone else is sad while they sing it, even Count Olaf (heck, the Baudelaires are near-catatonic), but he's smiling and bouncing with the music, even as he sings words like, "but to me there's nothing but gloom and despair". And the very emotional number ends with him happily turning off the music as if it's just some radio song, oblivious to the suffering around him. It really hits home how little the world cares about these people.
Haha I know. It perfectly represents how Mr. Poe is completely oblivious in what the Baudelaires are going through, and it's just so PERFECTLY Mr. Poe.
And how oblivious and dumb and cheerful most of the adults are.
except uncle monty. I was so sad when he was ended.
And like someone else said, the cough at the end represents the Baudelaires' lack of closure.
Mr. Poe is a fucking dumbass
“some people smile at the end of the day.”
“some people laugh… i suppose.”is my favorite bit of the song. something about the way they sing this part is just so melancholic. both of them sound so distant/resigned to everything.
This series is by far the best adaptation of a book series

well, if he didn`t, count olaf would just appear in disguise and the children would honestly not know who he is, and the guardian`s life would just be easier to end
Not exactly, mr Poe was an idiot, but the cards were stacked against the Baudelaires. (Spoilers my dear volunteers) the high court was in control of the fire starting side, all vfd members were falling left and right, and well, the Baudelaires just had their bad luck
someday the kid who played sunny is going to grow up. I'm going to feel so old by then.
Same
Kathryn Dean me too
She’s way cuter in the second season
Kathryn Dean presley smith u big dummy!!
Same
Bro I can’t stop rewatching ASOUE because it’s literally my favorite show. This song is literally my jam and it’s literally the best I can’t get this song out of my head! And Malina, Louis, and Presley do a wonderful job 💖💗
Malina, Louis, and Presley have different nationalities. Malina is American, Louis is British, and Presley is Canadian. Diverse!
@@anniefano7That's a little fact I did not know well that's good to know thanks.
Who else just can't let go of this series even though it ended a few years ago? It has such a good story line and you get hocked so quickly, plus this song is so catchy. This will forever be one of my favorite series.
ME FOR sure i’ll love forever
Love how the rhyme scheme changes in the last verse, and the final line is cut off with a cough reinforcing how these kids never get any closure! Brilliant!
NerdSync i love how sonny whistles. It looks so funny
They probably will in season 3 if season 3 follows the end of the books correctly where count Olaf eventually dies at least they won't have him chasing after them anymore.
Megan McKnight Fuck me spoiler alert hahaha. Rip
Max Wetteland:I said if because the tv series does change things up from the books so tv show wise nobody knows count Olaf’s fate
Megan McKnight They aren’t gonna change it, they haven’t changed any major plot points so far. You’re a jerk for spoiling it for this guy.
When I heard Lemony Snicket start singing at the end of the last episode I was worried it would be cheesy and horrible but this was really an amazing song, and I wish there were a longer version
TBestIG Right. Because a baby CG whistling isn't AT ALL cheesy or cartoony. (Just for the record, I still like the song and the show)
Wendigo Dragon I didn't say there weren't dumb parts
Well, they did say that the world is a pair of ill-fitting pants
Donut_Thug life is a conundrum of esoterica after all
Will everyone please rise for the 2020 Anthem...
Indeed
underrated!!
*2020's anthem
Why
Nobody:
Mr Poe: *there's no happy- COUGH COUGH COUGH-" dies*
Every time I hear this I literally say "That's not how the story HEACHHK
It would have been the beginning of a happy ending.
Poe is able to enjoy the melody by ignoring all the misery around him. Olaf is singing about the world as uncomfortable pants, explaining his discomfort and will to wear and hence bend the world to his will. And Lemony seems a bit obsessed by the past. Very telling of their characters.
This show is amazing and depressing at the same time
That's the idea ;)
Just like the books
dickywise123 gee, I had no idea that a show called A Series of UNFORTUNATE EVENTS would be depressing.
Not really exactly like the books, since the show is mostly humorous and self-aware rather than depressing. Kind of wish the tone of this song was present more often in the show itself, but it really only had a few sad moments (like the Quagmires reveal)
dickywise123 DON'T LET YOUR KIDS WATCH IT!
+9000.1 points to all you fellow memers
I lost my father when i was 12, a few days before this series was released. Looking back now, i realize how much it helped me to cope with reality. It shouldn't happen, but sometimes children lose their parents. It shouldn't happen, but sometimes happy families get destroyed. You have to keep living through this cruel reality
the fact that sunny is the one that whistles makes this 30 times better 🙃🙃
The kid who played Klaus is a amazing singer if you can hear him. I wish he sung louder :(
Louis Hynes
Avary Narwhal it’s not his voice. They used another person’s voice. His voice is more high pitched in the first season.
Louis Hines
This is totally not the 27th time I’ve watch this. It’s not, fine it is
Well then it's not my 84th time listening to it. Right?
It’s my 578th time
I've listened to it 22- No wait, 64 times... In addition to 84 times
10000000000000000000000
Even damn single day!!!
I was just about to comment that it would be AWESOME if A Series Of Unfortunate Events became a musical, then I remembered that there are 13 books.
maybe just the first one could work
13 PART MUSICAL!
Mr. Poe singing about sadness and despair with a gleeful smile on his face
Yeah right like WTF!
I mean it's relatable. How often do we casually sing along with songs about sadness or death or murder on the radio?
I knew Doctor Horrible could sing, but Kronk pleasantly surprised me
Coral Roper Post-production
This song, combined with book knowledge, made me truly feel bad for Olaf, and worse for Snicket.
+3.14 Dragon yup olaf lost his parents to the baudelaires and has felt like he has had to steal and scavenge his way through his life even while in vfd he never felt like he belonged unless around kit
Its never CONFIRMED the Baudilairs killed his parents, and hes still a horrible person, but when even the horrible evil villain is a tragic figure, well... You've got yourself a series for the ages.
Coral Roper who?
I love how Sunny is just sitting there like: Why am I here.
*sees this on playlist called “disguised rickroll”*
well i guess their parents gave them up and let them down
This is the comment I was looking for.. I
😂😂😂😂
LMAOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
*rimshot*
I love how it's supposed to be a sad-ish song but Mr. Poe is just singing happily and smiling.
Some people would say that that's beyond creepy like Joker from Batman creepy #lol.
Malina singing voice is verrrry lovely
the small voice cracks that violet has are so fitting for this song
😭
Jeremy Ho Aren't they?
Jeremy Ho I especially love how she looks stone faced almost emotionless but you can here she is on the verge of tears
TheChaosyami the way they're singing and their facial expressions look like they're listening to a teacher
TheChaosyami She look's shellshocked
I love how when violet sings it’s almost like the scene is AI because of how much emotion is missing from her face. The only thing moving is her lips not her cheeks, or eyes, or nose. It’s perfect.
Felt empty after a binge watch of seasons 1 to 3. How i wish they continued with season 4 off the books, watching the trio grow up 😢
If the show was more of a viral hit, i feel like they might have tried to extend it further
Seeing violet sing that peace and justice won't happen with that blank expression makes me so sad
when this was reprised in “Penultimate Peril: Part 2”, showing everything that happened on the Baudelaire’s journey from when they first met Olaf. My heart just went into pieces💔 it was such an unfortunate experience x
it was so emotional
Losers Float Too I agree. I watched the whole season when it came out and I’d do anything to experience this show for the first time again
DevilNoah Amv's and Games the show ended way better than the book
DevilNoah Amv's and Games more answered questions. Also, more people survived, which is better depending on your opinion
what’s the time stamp for when it happens in that episode
Me on the way to work every day:
"There are no happy endings not here and not now. Only tales of sorrow and woe"
Y'all when I finished the series I was dying. Not in a joking way, I had a massive internal cist that was killing me and pushing on all my organs, I was in so much pain. I was 12. My dad stayed up with me all night before my surgery while we watched the last episodes.
I hope you’re doing well now!
@@rowanzzzz Well if I wasn't, I probably wouldn't have posted that xD
@@stormrider24 lmao
the way i gasped 😭 i hope you’re doing well now
@@laursieloise Oh I'm fantastic
Who came here after the season three finale?
Edit: Wow thx for all the likes people, first time getting more than 50
Starhunter ME!!!
✋
ME😭😭
Me
Starhunter me 😪😪😪
This showed how broken violet was. She didn’t even move the entire time, and was just destroyed
It sounded like she was on the verge of tears, too
Can't watch her without crying.
The way this song has me sobbing out of nowhere when it starts
