You find anymore good spots to bow fish in Corpus? I live in SATX and do a lot of bow fishing in area lakes for tilapia & gar but would like to see what i can get at the coast.
Matter of fact I’ve lost places. Used to fish at Cole park but was informed by an officer that I couldn’t do that anymore then the pier collapsed.🤦♂️.. That was clearly some time ago.
Waters not that deep where I was at. But then again, I've never been free diving. I think it only goes about a few feet down at the deepest. But hey, if you try it, let me know how it goes.
+ray minazzi Well when the water is nice and calm is the clearest and it don't get much calmer than that in Corpus Christi. That looked like a perfect day. Corpus Christi is beautiful but the water is always green, just like most all cities in the Gulf.
Once the winds start coming from the north and are under 6-7 mph for a few hours, the water gets pretty clear. You can easily see 6+ feet down on a good day. And that was as close to a perfect day as you'll get most of the time out here.
is there a list of all the fish you can hunt with a bow i know you can not hunt what is named sport fish but me and my daughter are wanting to spend a week on the intercostal conal doing some day and night bow fishing we are hoping this next summer 2017 and i need to get all the info i can befor we plan on the trip
+dexter2433, any non game fish is fair game. Sheepshead, black drum, flounder (except in November), gar, carp, and I think tilapia are all shootable fish.
awesome we are hooked bowfishing by far is so much more fun and i am 50 years old and grew up saltwater/fresh water fishing and still love fishing 100% but bow fishing has taken it to another level so exciting and fun it has become more about getting a shot off rether than what you have on the stringer
well november is ok because we are hunting land bearing animals at that time but the rest of the year :) we are bowfishing or thinking about the next bowfishing trip :-)
it is crazy how cheap it is also and still so much fun with a simple $45 BOW and required equipment and if you do not go crazy it is very affordable i know ther is also a ton of highe $ equipment also but if you shop and buy only what you truley need it is some what cheep WOW
Nice video and good shooting, every time I go to a dock with my bow. I get is that legal question then some hippy calls the police. Most do not know the bow fishing laws so I have to educate them or wait in a Gamewarden to come.
I get that a lot too. Haven't had the police called on me yet, but I've had an officer walk right past me on the pier while I'm bow fishing and I got was a, "nice catch" as I was getting my latest catch off the arrow. I usually just tell people, "If it weren't legal, I wouldn't be doing it, let alone in such a public place." That's usually enough for most people.
Just went out this afternoon, said place and didn't see a thing.. would like to fish with you! Message me and we can get something set up.. I'm new to bowfishing
Good to know.. what are the regulations. Was pretty skeptical walking around everywhere downtown with a bow lol. I know you can only shoot non game fish, that's what I read atleast.
+Hayden Griffiths, yes, only non game fish. I am in need of new fishing spots as it seems there is a city ordinance that prohibits bow and arrows from city parks. Unfortunately, I am going to be moving at the end of June, so the hunt for a good fishing spot is difficult at the moment. Otherwise all normal fishing regs apply. Size and bag limits are the same so be careful what you shot at.
+Choronzon39, not a whole lot to it really. Find yourself an inexpensive bow with at least a 40# draw. The reel I use is an AMS bowfishing reel that you can find at academy. I got one of my bows from a pawnshop for $60. If you're shooting at a pier, try to get in a position to shoot straight down. Otherwise you will need to aim below the fish depending on how deep the fish is. Worst part is waiting for a day with next to no wind and clear water.
+wolfyone I was planning on getting a recurve bow with a reel attachment and a solid roller rest. But I may hit the pawn shops just to see what is available.
+Choronzon39, I've got a kingfisher takedown recurve bow and zebco 808 bowfishing reel. $100 and their yours. But, for bowfishing off a pier, a compound is better suited.

Very good shot with that bow and arrow,
Nice, you should try Ingleside on the bay by the rock wall that is out there.
John Martinez I'll add it to the list of places to try. Thanks
Cool video and good shooting on that bow.
Thanks
Would that be a good place to freedive\spearfish?

Do you have any suggestions for when the water is the clearest?

Go to Oso bridge and you can see sheep head near white pilings
I don’t even know how I’d manage to get at them. Shooting from the bridge seems like a bad idea.
Wolfyone true, I wouldn't know I don't bow fish lol. But I see them every time I got there lol
nice vid
Thanks

Those sheepshead look a little small. Regulations size is 15 inches or greater, applies to bow fishing just as it would on line and pole.
All fish were 16" and up. I am aware of all corresponding regulations. Thanks for the heads up though.
Regulations for Sheepshead here in Florida are 12" and allowed 15 keepers!

+Hayden Griffiths, needs to be a day with crazy clam wind and water. Hasn't been a good day in weeks.

Hey man! I'm in Corpus just right up the road at Art's Apartments. I wanna do what you are doing, message me if you don't mind.
+Choronzon39, that's awesome. The Arts has its own pier, doesn't it?
+wolfyone Yes we have our own pier, and I've seen plenty of sheepshead. Just not recently.
