Ooo, very true. I do personally like Tails more as I've only played classic Sonic. I admit that I chose Shadow because of how popular of a fan pick he was for ultimate DLC 😅
The concept of a Super Smash Bros. game focused on 2v2 duos is a great idea, as it will be hard to follow Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's "Everyone is Here" where they brought back all of the fighters from the first four games and most of the stages, game modes, music, items, etc. which made it feel like the Ultimate Super Smash Bros. experience. However, I have some issues with the roster. It does feel like you didn't cut characters based on the concept of duos and more on whether you want them or not which is fine but it kind of hurts the concept. You cut Pac-Man because he didn't fit the niche of having a duo yet you kept quite a few characters as "solo fighters". But that goes against the entire idea of your game concept. If you can choose a random enemy from Donkey Kong to pair with K Rool (Klump is a basic enemy in the Donkey Kong Country games, and the character being King K Rool's second in command only comes from the old Donkey Kong cartoon), you can give pairings to Samus, Yoshi, Captain Falcon, Sheik, Corrin, and Inkling. It's very subjective though and it is your roster so don't let me affect your picks lol. I do love Klump as the obscure weird picks are some of my favorites (E.g. Wii Fit Trainer and Piranha Plant). This was a really well-crafted video and I hope you don't misunderstand this as hate, this is just some criticism from someone with too much time on their hands.
Here are some other tidbits / nitpicks I had throughout the video that you don't need to take seriously: Give Yoshi Birdo for his duo. Even though Birdo isn't a Yoshi's Island character, they totally work like in Mario Kart: Double Dash. Also, what is wrong with adding Poochy when you added freaking Klump. The same goes for Waluigi as he's not a WarioWare character but it would work. As much as I want Skull Kid in a Smash game, Ganondorf (or a variation of him) has worked in tangent with numerous villains in the Zelda series that would fit better (as Skull Kid is from one of the few Ganon-less Zelda games). The most notable one is Ghirahim. Sheik could fit with Impa since in her debut Ocarina of Time, Impa was her right-hand-woman. I won't argue with Andross as that is a crazy cool pick, but Wolf most definitely should have Leon as he is the Falco counterpart on Star Wolf. I know you said you never played a Metroid game so here's an idea for Samus. Give her Commander Adam Malkovich, her commanding officer in the Metroid series and probably the only other prominent human character. Lucario and Greninja are not from the same era, as Lucario came from the DS era of the mid 2000's, and Greninja came from the 3DS era of the early 2010's. Also I love the Iron Valiant pick, I was not expecting it of all the new Pokémon so it was a welcome surprise. I am a big Fire Emblem fan so this might take a while. - Marth and Ike do not come from the same timeline (unless you count the entire series as one huge timeline). Marth comes from the Archanea line of games while Ike comes from the Tellius line of games. A more probably duo would be with a character from his own set of games or maybe Lucina because she is his descendent, or Alear from the newest release as they are paired up in that game. - Roy and Lyn do not come from the same game, although they come from the same timeline. Roy comes from The Binding Blade, while Lyn comes from the prequel The Blazing Blade. The two never interact canonically, although in one of The Blazing Blade's endings, Roy's father Eliwood can marry Lyn which would make Lyn Roy's mother. It isn't canon however. - Earlier in the video you stated Robin was the least relevant Fire Emblem character but he really isn't, Corrin most definitely is. In the newest game, Fire Emblem Engage. Robin and Chrom are paired up together so it literally makes so much sense for this. - Corrin could be paired with a plethora of characters from their own game. The most prominent being Azura, Ryoma, or Xander. - And also Byleth is one of the most prominent characters in Fire Emblem currently and has the most recognizable duos being one of the three house lords (Edelgard, Dimitri, or Claude). So including Corrin over Byleth is crazy. I won't argue with the Ness and Lucas pick as it doesn't make sense to give Mother too many more reps, but I will because Ness and Lucas aren't a great pair outside of them being a duo in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I'd either replace Lucas with Mr. Saturn because that would be hilarious, or give them both a second character. Lucas could totally have the Masked Man from Mother 3, and Ness could take any of his party members. I have no preference but Jeff is probably the most likely since he was given an assist trophy over being a final smash cameo like Paula and Poo. Olimar and Louie make much more sense for a duo if you're going off of what makes the most sense. Yes, Pikmin 3 probably wants the representation more but the duo of Pikmin is Olimar and Louie. Octoling would make for a good duo with Inkling for Splatoon since in the newest game both are playable. I think it makes much more sense for Sonic and Tails to be the duo, as it is literally the iconic Sonic duo. Shadow is Sonic's rival and would make sense for most prominent characters but this is a game based on duos and Sonic and Tails are too iconic. Too much Capcom if I'm being honest. I think one rep per third-party company makes sense so I think it'd be Ryu and Ken to represent fighting games as a whole since Little Mac, Terry Bogard, and Kazuya were booted. I'd probably replace Mega Man and Proto Man with Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man or one of the ghosts to balance it out. Also, I don't know if I'm misunderstanding because he's down at the bottom but Shulk is not a third-party character. Xenoblade Chronicles is a first-party series, and also Rex and Noah would not work as skins for Shulk as they are all wildly different other than all being male.
@Acopanics_ Incredible analysis of the video! This is very appreciated insight to internalize before I begin editing Part 2 tonight. I'll try (and fail) to briefly address each point: - Many of the solo picks were characters I believed to be "better off" by themselves. Samus I think is a good example. (I have played most 2D Metroid games just not any Prime.) In the 2D games a big part of her character is being a lone wolf and investigating these distress signals and overcoming alien threats completely by herself. Captain Falcon from my understanding also doesn't have any real allies. Some solos don't really apply to this though so in that case it was probably bias wanting to keep the character like Inkling who I kept because I feel like their franchise is so big they have to be in Smash. - Another commenter has also suggested Yoshi + Birdo and I'm really compelled to add Birdo for the DLC video because they do go really well together and I think Birdo has enough moveset potential! - Skull Kid was picked for popularity's sake and the design and moveset potential I think would be perfect for smash. I'll have to give Ghirahim a Google Im very casual when it comes to Zelda haha. Impa is a great idea and possible DLC contender. - This video and concept was originally started years ago and the duos were very different and basically all the newcomers were clone-ish characters. I had Panther as Wolf's duo but I think Leon would've also been a fresher pick! Still keeping Andross since he's the main villain so I think he should get priority. - I was extremely biased in not cutting Greninja or Lucario in exchange for a better duo! I mained Greninja towards the end of Smash 4 and Lucario is so unique mechanically. Didn't want to lose their gameplay or iconic-ness. - Really showed my ignorance of Fire Emblem and Pikmin more than I hoped haha. From what I could tell reading up on the games I was so sure of Lyn being from the same game as Roy but I can see how the timelines are not that simple! At least Marth and Ike kind of work because of Subspace. And in relation to smash I think Corrin is more popular than Robin but that's quite the blunder if it's the opposite for actual Fire Emblem fans! - Kinda kicking myself for neglecting tails especially since the only Sonic games I like are Sonic 2 and Mania lmao. I tried including fan picks, personal picks, and some obscure picks, and Shadow was definitely a fan pick. - Proto Man, on the other hand, was a personal pick 100%. I'll definitely get into some different 3rd parties for the DLC video. The Pac Man ghost as a playable fighter is a fantastic idea! - I had made the roster a 9x7 originally but that didn't really work for the template I wanted to use so Shulk was bumped to the bottom to not separate any 3rd party duos. I'll fix it when I add the DLCs in Part 3. I was under the assumption that all of the protagonists of Xenoblade used the same sword so they could still have similar movesets and that really sucks if theres just no way that could work. I know a little about Shulk and Rex but NOTHING about Xenoblade 3. That could maybe be fixed with a DLC character to complete that Duo.
@@MysterytheMaker Yeah I think Corrin was a better pick over Robin if you’re choosing between the two because Robin, Chrom, and Lucina are all from the same game while Corrin is from a different game. It gives more representation to the series without bloating one game like how Zelda has only 6 characters and 3 of them are specifically from Ocarina of Time or to a lesser extent how most of the Pokémon are from gen 1.
I really like the idea of this game. A duo concept is awesome, but I want to give my own suggestions for the roster sprinkled with my own ideas. I feel like King K. Rool & Klump would get cut. Like Donkey Kong hasn't had a game in a decade now, and even with Mario vs. Donkey Kong coming out in like a month, I just feel DK doesn't need four reps. Also, I just can't see Dixie being a costume for Diddy. They feel too distinct, it would be like making Luigi a costume to Mario in my opinion. I would cut Sheik too. If she was still paired with Zelda, I could maybe see it, but when Sheik's just, there, it doesn't really make sense. Ocarina of Time is a good game and all, but it's 25 years old and that's been the only appearance of Sheik. I'm conflicted on Skull Kid, but that's mostly I don't see him as a partner to Ganondorf. But I think keeping it to 3 or 4 is perfect (Skull Kid pending) I'd feel Wolf & Andross are unnecessary. It's a similar reasoning to Donkey Kong. The series has been in decay for far too long and keeping it at Fox & Falco feels right. Wolf also is just another clone of Fox moveset wise so that's another reason I don't really desire his return. As much as I love Ridley in smash, I feel like him and Dark Samus have to go. You said it yourself, Samus works alone. And just putting any other reps from Metroid in a game about Duos feels wrong. The way Pokemon was arranged just feels, wrong. Like I'm not attacking you or anything, but the reasoning does feel pretty flimsy, and it sort of feels like just pairing whoever for the sake of it. I think cutting Pokémon Trainer, and leaving back to just Charizard would be the best as a pair for Pikachu, as the two sort of fit as the mascots of Pokémon. I think unfortunately Mewtwo should be cut, or at the very least be a solo rep. Jigglypuff, I'd pair with Machamp as a sort of irony. Also as a Fighting type Pokémon for the game. I would cut Lucario & Greninja as both of them feel like they were additions to promote the newest Pokémon games at the time. However I would replace them with Accelgor & Escavolier, as they are THE Pokémon duo. Also I would cut Incineroar, same reasoning as Lucario & Greninja, and maybe keep Iron Valient, as your reasoning is true, however Iron Valient would be one I'd cut them if we needed to cut one. This sentiment has been repeated time and time again, but Fire Emblem does not deserve that many reps. I know Marth is the iconic Fire Emblem guy, but I would cut him, along with Ike & Corrin. Either Roy & Lyn or Lucina & Chrom can stay, I'm fine with either as I'm not really a Fire Emblem fan. I would cut Lucas & Replace him with either Porky or Poo. As you mentioned, they had never met canonically and once again, both of them are just clones of the other. Adding Porky or any of the other party member from Earthbound would be great and give more variety, though I feel with the Duo theming, adding Porky would feel weird, so I lean to a Party Member, specifically Poo as he's my favorite. I'd either cut Olimar and make Alph have one of his partners, or replace Alph with Louie. I lean towards Olimar and Louie being a duo, as I love Louie and I don't really remember the Pikmin 3 captains, probably because I've only played Pikmin 2. I would replace Shadow with Tails. Making a Smash game about duos and not adding Sonic & Tails would just be wrong. Also as for the cut of Pac-Man, either he could just be a solo character, or add in Ms. Pac-Man. The last two Smash games have been co-developped by Namco, so I really don't see why they wouldn't let Pac-Man come back again. But these are all just my ideas, I'm not saying yours are bad. I'm just giving my perspective on some of them. It's a cool idea, and I can't wait for part 2. Also sorry for the text wall Lmao.
I'm surprised that many fans are so eager to do more cuts but it does make sense! If that was the case though they'd have to really change up movesets and style of the characters so that it justifies having a new game over ultimate. Everyone has really swayed me on Pac Man so I think I'll be adding them back for the DLC video and maybe Tails can make it too... Thank you so much for the ideas and I can't wait to finish Part 2!
I feel that eevee should be in smash. Well not just eevee. The eeveelutions aswell. A package deal, but all in 1 character. Eevee was done dirty in ultimate and i think having a light, status based character that excells at lengthy combos would be cool. Status based means it excells at applying buffs to itself and debuffs to the enemy.
Just a few ideas for the duos roster! I'd love to see Bajo-Kazooie return as two separate fighters to make a duo (you need lots of teamwork to use moves together). Klump should go and King K Rool's duo fighter should be Gruntilda! I know you don't have any cross-series duos, but in a crossover fighting game it would be fun to include some weird picks (grunty and krool would be a dream team) I would personally cut wolf only because Star Fox is not a very relevant series anymore and it just doesn't seem realistic to add a new star fox character. Pokemon Trainer should become the catch-all pokemon fighter! It's a little silly, but it would be cool if you just selected the trainer, and got to pick from 2 or 3 of any of the pokemon fighters to bring to the fight. It removes the weird pairings of pokemon characters, and every pokemon gets to be a "duo" with another of your choice! As goofy as it sounds Samus and Captain Falcon look kinda lonely so maybe they could be a duo? For some reason?? I think Pikmin should have a Captain + Oatchi! (or Olimar and Moss as alts)
Thank you very much! Splatoon is HUGE on the switch at least from what I've seen. So even though they don't really have a duo character I kept them due to popularity and relevancy.
Just a heads up, Marth and Ike don't come from the same world, so there's not much of a link between them. Any reason why you consider Robin to be irrelevant? I would actually argue for Robin & Chrom or Robin & Lucina over Lucina & Chrom, honestly. Chrom and Lucina fight similarly, so having Robin in place of one of them would add more variety to the duo and to the roster as a whole. Both Smash and Intelligent Systems also really like to push Chrom and Robin as a duo. Lucario might work well with Incineroar? Blue canine martial artist + red feline wrestler could be a fun pair.
Well damn Subspace lied! That shade towards Robin was strictly from a smash player perspective I've never played Fire Emblem. I do admit that Robin's moveset is something different than a sword fighter at least but the picks I made were the just the most memorable as characters for me. I often forget Robin is a fighter for Ultimate haha Lucario and Incineroar is a good idea! I wish I had done the Pokemon duos differently but Iron Valiant is non-negotiable lol
I have a bunch of ideas for Smash 6 and beyond (for fighters, story modes, gimmicks, and more). Personally for fire emblem fighters I would remove all the echoes (Lucina, Roy, and Chrom), keep Ike, Marth, Robin, Corrin, and Byleth, give Byleth a new moveset that is more closer to the Three Houses games (only having the Sword of the Creator and having Divine Pulse somewhere), and I also have 6 non-sword user characters I would love to see as fighters
I really dropped the ball on the FE reps, was never familiar with the series and didn't do enough research! I honestly kept which characters I personally found interesting and messed up with the pairings lore wise. A byleth rework is a cool idea, and some more creative reps I think would help the series!
When you say Robin is irrelevant, are you saying that from a Smash Bros sense or a Fire Emblem sense, because in the Fire Emblem community, Robin is much more popular there and they (as your in-game Avatar though Male is slightly more popular) one of the most important characters of the lore. They tie several games together and had one of the biggest influences on the series overarching story, is one of the most powerful units in the series, and is considered the most popular non-Lord/main protagonist. If you're talking Smash, that's Sakurai and co.'s fault. I played Awakening and other games Robin is featured in and outside of weapons of choice, Robin neither fights or acts nothing like they do in Fire Emblem or other games like Codename S.T.E.A.M. Design is everything in Smash and Robin has one of the worst by far. They don't even try to promote the character. Outside of Smash, Robin has been considered Fire Emblem's best Avatar character years even after Three Houses and Engage for a reason and several spin-offs, Robin is considered one of the best characters in the game like Warriors and early Heroes. I'd say they're deserving enough of a return by the reception alone and more just need an overhaul like Bowser or Pit got. Lucario deserves a rework too.
I was referring to them in the Smash sense since they're one of the rarer characters to encounter online and such. That's really interesting to know though, ironically Smash seems to have hurt Fire Emblems representation rather than help like Sakurai was trying to do by adding more FE reps. I watched a video the topic recently and learned that Roy's character was pretty much entirely made up for melee! They saw his sprites and moves on his game before it was even released and saw him as a hothead character when that wasn't the case. They never changed it either so Roy is basically an original character in Smash with the only similarity to his FE version is that his sword catches fire!
This is a very interesting concept, but i think a lot of your decisions are contradictory. Some characters are removed for only being in 1 game, but others that have been in 1 game are still on the roster. A niche character like Poochie was rejected, while another niche character like Klump was included. Also giving some characters duos, while not giving others duos kinda defeats the purpose in my opinion. I think you'd be better off just giving everyone a duo. There were some stretched made on this roster already, so in the name of adhering to the concept I'm confident every character included could have a suitable duo
You're not wrong! Although in my defense there's so many factors to consider that it could be possible that I rushed through a couple cuts without explaining my reasoning fully. Some characters that I didn't have much knowledge or attachment to definitely had more faulty reasons for being cut than others. I've learned from another commenter how horribly I botched the fire emblem picks for example haha. In the case of Poochie though I was mostly joking since when he was introduced I remember most thought he was cute but also sort of redundant? I can see now how it is hypocritical compared to Klumps inclusion. I had a lot of car rides playing GBA DKC2 as a kid so I'm definitely biased! The solo characters is probably the biggest critique so far and I think I can help fix it in the DLC video like adding Birdo for Yoshi. Characters like Samus and Captain Falcon seem to prefer to work alone from what I know, though.
@MysterytheMaker if I could offer come suggestions: Birdo + Yoshi (paired together in Double Dash) Impa + Sheik (Impa trained Sheik) Samus + Captain Falcon (i don't think you explicitly said Duos had to be from the same series so it seems logical that these bounty hunters could be paired together) Micaiah + Ike (replace Corrin with Micaiah. The logic you used for Robin applies way more to Corrin, plus Micaiah is a canonical duo for Ike who uses light magic) Tiki + Marth (another canonical duo) Shulk + Monster Hunter (not sure if you meant for them to be Duos, but it can work, mainly because of the similarities between their games and the fact that they both fight an assortment of large monsters
HOW ARE YOU GOING TO SAY I DONT KNOW WHO TO PAIR PAC MAN WITH? ITS SOOO OBVIOUS CMON!!! Here’s something with the duos, you say some aren’t going to really fit while a lot of lore is relevant with the characters there are. Like for instance: Yoshi - Birdo PAC-Man - Mrs. PAC-Man
Yeah that's my bad haha. To be fair I'm not sure if Ms Pac Man would have that different of a moveset, she might work better as an alt. Birdo on the other hand is most definitely going to be in the DLC video!
I really like Andross being added especially because Sakurai creating movesets for characters is something he does if needed. F-Zero is kinda close enough to Metroid for Falcon to just be Samus’s partner, so you could have gone with that. Could have easily chosen Samurai Goro, Blood Falcon, or Black Shadow as the other F-Zero rep though. I know your concept is all about partners for existing characters but going that route is gonna put you between a rock and a hard place at times,m so you may as well just focus on adding one or more reps (bonus if they offer new moves to the roster). Buddy, Corrin returning instead of Robin is trash. I mean at least give Corrin a partner that offers a kit other fighters don’t.
I thought about Black Shadow but after looking through the wikis I saw that most other F-Zero characters are rivals to Falcon. Black Shadow would be so fun as a fighter though. And yeah I didn't put much research into the Fire Emblem cuts, Chrom/Robin is apparently a good duo and Marth/Ike was another controversial pick haha. My only knowledge of the series is through Smash and a handful of video essays on the story. Great ideas and completely fair criticisms!
A lot of Robin shooters in the chat, and thats weird imo. Personally for Fire Emblem I'd go Byleth because of FE3H basically reviving the series Kommamder Klump goes hard as a rep, and I will say that your revision passes the test that most others fail: that being you didnt inexplicably cut Mega Man. 10/10, 11/10 for Proto Man
Awakening revived the series, not Three Houses. Three Houses had the reputations and popularity of Awakening and Fates to build itself from and Robin in Fire Emblem is more popular than Byleth in Fire Emblem
If you want to keep Pac-Man, I think Blinky could work as a nice pair up for him. Sure, he's already in Pac-Man's side smash, but Chrom stayed in Robin's final smash despite being a fighter in Ultimate, so it's still a possibility.
Or if any characters should be removed that i would say maybe Daisy or Pirana Plant. And replace them with Waluigi. And also Isabelle is just trash. Villager was already enough and does not fit in a fighting Game. And Isabelle made it worse. No more animal crossing characters in smash. Not to hate on the Game. It May look cool but none of them fit to be in smash.
As resident Pokémon fan, I would've cut Incineroar, put newcomer Meowscarada with Greninja (they're both Dark Type starters), cut Mewtwo and Jigglypuff, and put Gardevoir with Lucario. As guy who knows nothing about Fire Emblem, Robin and Byleth as partners and Marth with newcomer Tiki (I think she is the closest that franchise has to a reoccurring character). The rest of the Fire Emblem characters are gone.
My Smash Bros Ultimate Duos note1: I keep them as is if they’re already a duo and only added characters I felt were necessary. note2: I also wasn’t afraid to cross-over some of these since it’s already Smash’s main concept. 🤝 = pairing 🔥 at the end = crossover pairing Mario 🤝 Luigi Peach 🤝 Daisy Bowser 🤝 Bowser Jr. Yoshi 🤝 Toad Rosalina 🤝 Luma (Rosalina & Luma) Wario 🤝 Waluigi Donkey Kong 🤝 Diddy Kong Link 🤝 Zelda Ganondorf 🤝 Mewtwo🔥 Samus 🤝 Captain Falcon🔥 Dark Samus 🤝 Ridley Kirby 🤝 Meta Knight King Dedede 🤝 Bandana Dee Fox 🤝 Falco Pikachu 🤝 Charizard Jigglypuff 🤝 Ivysaur Mewtwo 🤝 Incineroar Squirtle 🤝 Greninja Ness 🤝 Lucas Popo 🤝 Nana (Ice Climbers) Marth 🤝 Ike Lucina 🤝 Chrom Robin 🤝 Byleth Pit 🤝 Palutena Olimar 🤝 Louie R.O.B. 🤝 Chibi-Robo🔥 Villager 🤝 Isabelle Wii Fit Trainer 🤝 Ring Fit Trainee🔥 Little Mac 🤝 Mii Brawler🔥 Mii SwordFighter 🤝 Mii Gunner Shulk 🤝 Noah Pyra/Mythra 🤝 Rex Inkling 🤝 Octoling Dog 🤝 Duck (Duck Hunt) Game & Watch 🤝 Pac-Man🔥 Sonic 🤝 Tails Mega Man 🤝 Zero Ryu 🤝 Ken Kazuya 🤝 Terry🔥 Simon 🤝 Richter Banjo 🤝 Kazooie (Banjo-Kazooie) Steve 🤝 Alex Cloud 🤝 Sora
U picked shadow over tails?? Sidekicks always get in first over rivals… I know shadow is sometimes a rival and sometimes a good guy but u gotta go with sonics main sidekick
I don't think making duos like Double Dash in smash is gonna be a thing. Roster is gonna get a massive cut. My bet is gonna be 16-20 + 4-8 DLC Not only are all Non-Nintendo Characters out, but plenty of retro ones are gonna be out. G&W, IC, LM. I think Pit stays, but LM is gonna be a DLC Also think Sonic is out bbut maybe a DLC Pokemon & FE are also gonna get a massive cut, down to 2-3 each Fox stays, but Falco & Wolf are out Now a big cut is gonna that all villains are out and none of them are coming as DLC. Maybe not as ambitious as Subspace Emisary but maybe like the adventure mode. The game is gonna have us fight villains boss boosted modes (not necesary transformation like Gigabowser, just villains being naturally stronger characters like the orginal Metal Mario) We are gonna get the original 8 +unlocks (Luigi/Pokemon2/FE1/FE2/Pit/Peach/Zelda/MinMin) (This makes 16, but maybe 4 more out of NEW franchises) +DLC (LM/Nes being preorder) (Sonic + NEW) (Inkling or Isabelle + NEW) (NEW + NEW) Many characters are gonna get moveset updates (like Mario stop having the water gun and Fox having knockback on laser, yoshi having 3 times Up-B but shorter but can be knock back)
A legacy focused Smash is a really realistic concept for whenever the next entry comes and the cuts are fair. It'll be tough to sell a smash game that's like 20% the size of ultimate's roster though! Whether the gameplay is duo focused or something even more wacky, I think the most important thing is that the next game does something new for the gameplay to keep the franchise interesting. I'll make sure to touch up on new types of moves and game modes that'll hopefully flesh out the Duos concept in Part 2!
In the competitive scene duos plays vastly different. In a later video I also discuss additional team moves to help justify the duos gimmick. I'd recommend checking out all of the other videos in the series as I address a lot of criticisms in that last video!

I like the idea but no Rosalina and no partner for some of the characters is just criminal. Rosalina is so sad.😢 Two fox teams? That series is old. The concept is good you just need to change up the roster.
As a Mario Galaxy fan I love Roaslina but I don't think the next smash will keep her, since she's only from two games while Star Fox has had new releases from the SNES to the switch (if you count starlink).
Cutting G&W for being "obscure and niche" is where I clicked off. If you don't know what you're talking about you can just not make a Smash video, that's okay bud.
We can't have every character from every game forever, you're gonna have to make cuts. G&W would not work in the roster I was making at all, and if I were to break my own rules I'd rather keep captain falcon over G&W.
@@MysterytheMaker Not every character can return forever, totally. But a character who was invented FOR Smash, specifically to represent historically significant hardware, with a moveset and design that makes him one of the easiest characters to implement into any Smash game, who's had perfect attendance since Melee? I think even if you're cutting down on retro characters, which I would prefer not to see but understand, I still think Game and Watch just *needs* to still be there for his historical significance alone. Cut Icies, cut Little Mac, cut Duck Hunt, even cut ROB if you must (and ideally add a new Retro rep if you're doing all that), but Game and Watch is untouchable. There's nobody else in Smash doing what he's doing, and there's nobody new they could ADD who does what he's doing either. There's no benefit to cutting him and again, it doesn't even save on dev time since he's so easy to implement.
@@jubisisters Personally I've never had that connection with Game and Watch, the specific homage to early Nintendo hardware is definitely cool but I feel like his smash identity has overcome the original reference. You're not wrong, and I'm sure a lot of other fans would agree with you. I'm sure that another chunk of fans like myself don't really click with the character anymore. Maybe I've been down aired into up specialed by elite smash G&W too many time, I don't know. A good compromise here is to give him a rework to incorporate more references to really give him that "Mr. Nintendo" vibe. I definitely understand your perspective a lot better now, and can see how this might even be majority opinion. It's hard to tell since this is the first comment I've seen vouch for the character since I made the vid!
@@MysterytheMaker He definitely doesn't need MORE references. He's not Mr. Nintendo, he's Mr. Game and Watch, and literally everything he does is a reference to a wide variety of game and watch games, so to say he needs more references is kind of just ignorant of the references that are already there lol. If you don't understand the significance of the game and watch, that's kind of on you, but the fact that that significance is communicated by his presence in smash is a huge part of why he needs to stay. I wouldn't know all that much about the game and watch if not for his smash presence, and I'm really glad I do, since it's one of the most foundational pieces of game hardware in history, up there with like, the Arcade Cabinet or the Compact Disc.
No way this shit gets smash 6 this isn't anything like a new smash roster it's js what you would pick, UR LITERALLY REMOVING PEOPLE YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHO THEY ARE, y would you keep King k cool but remove bayonetta, this is a joke js like Dr mario in smash
Your roster is trash Stop getting rid of Characters and putting new Characters all if them are staying and STOP adding waluigi becuase sakurai will never add it to the roster that will be so embarissing to force someone to add a Character that he did never join
1. If the roster stays the same it's not really a new game just Ultimate 2, while the video is for a potential new game 2. Sakurai has unfortunately retired and it'll be very unlikely if he directs again

Personally I'd choose Tails over Shadow if the game's going with a duo theme. He'd also have a more unique moveset from Sonic with his tails and tech.
Ooo, very true. I do personally like Tails more as I've only played classic Sonic. I admit that I chose Shadow because of how popular of a fan pick he was for ultimate DLC 😅
I'm torn between wanting Tails or Waluigi in Smash. I want a 2v2 fight. Mario and Luigi vs Sonic and Tails or Wario and Waluigi.
Tails has been around longer than shadow and he is sonics sidekick so I think he deserves to be in smash
Bruh it’s shadow
6:35 Birdo: "Am I a joke to you?"
Yeah😡
Here are some other tidbits / nitpicks I had throughout the video that you don't need to take seriously:
Give Yoshi Birdo for his duo.
I'll try (and fail) to briefly address each point:
- Many of the solo picks were characters I believed to be "better off" by themselves.
But I think keeping it to 3 or 4 is perfect (Skull Kid pending)
I'd feel Wolf & Andross are unnecessary.
A Duos Concept is Genius!! Just Imagine how fun the Gameplay would be. Cant wait for part 2
But not having Yoshi and Birdo as a Duo is criminal 😔
Love Birdo shouldve thought of that! Maybe they can make the DLC cut we'll have to see... Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank goodness you keep lucina and chrom, i don't know what i'll do without them
I feel that eevee should be in smash.
I know you don't have any cross-series duos, but in a crossover fighting game it would be fun to include some weird picks (grunty and krool would be a dream team)
I would personally cut wolf only because Star Fox is not a very relevant series anymore and it just doesn't seem realistic to add a new star fox character.
Nice video and Idea. Sad about some characters gone, but what I asked myself the most is for what reason keep inkling? (just curious)
Thank you very much! Splatoon is HUGE on the switch at least from what I've seen. So even though they don't really have a duo character I kept them due to popularity and relevancy.
Not to be that guy, but it would be smash 7 3ds and Wii u are different games
I often forget Robin is a fighter for Ultimate haha
Lucario and Incineroar is a good idea! I wish I had done the Pokemon duos differently but Iron Valiant is non-negotiable lol
No way bro removed Game and Watch and left Corin 💀
fr
If you aren't familiar with something (very clear by your video) do more research instead of potentially spreading misinformation.

I'm fine with Waluigi and Shadow, but octolings can be paired with inklings, right?
I do wonder who will be the 100th playable character if we get smash 6
Tabuu from Subspace Emissary 👀
Yoshi's partner will be Mecha Yoshi from crafted world
This is a very interesting concept, but i think a lot of your decisions are contradictory.
@MysterytheMaker if I could offer come suggestions:
Birdo + Yoshi (paired together in Double Dash)
Impa + Sheik (Impa trained Sheik)
Samus + Captain Falcon (i don't think you explicitly said Duos had to be from the same series so it seems logical that these bounty hunters could be paired together)
Micaiah + Ike (replace Corrin with Micaiah. The logic you used for Robin applies way more to Corrin, plus Micaiah is a canonical duo for Ike who uses light magic)
Tiki + Marth (another canonical duo)
Shulk + Monster Hunter (not sure if you meant for them to be Duos, but it can work, mainly because of the similarities between their games and the fact that they both fight an assortment of large monsters
Like for instance:
Yoshi - Birdo
PAC-Man - Mrs. PAC-Man
Yeah that's my bad haha. To be fair I'm not sure if Ms Pac Man would have that different of a moveset, she might work better as an alt. Birdo on the other hand is most definitely going to be in the DLC video!
@@MysterytheMaker ahhh okay that makes sense. Good video and great prediction! This might be more of a mode if anything though.
@@MysterytheMakerWhat if you had Blinky instead. He could items the ghosts used in World 2.
Thanks for the response!
Really surprised you didn’t add octoling, I mean, they feel like a pretty obvious shoe in.
I would like to cut the Piranha Plant for the possible Smash installment.
A lot of Robin shooters in the chat, and thats weird imo. Personally for Fire Emblem I'd go Byleth because of FE3H basically reviving the series
Kommamder Klump goes hard as a rep, and I will say that your revision passes the test that most others fail: that being you didnt inexplicably cut Mega Man.
Pac Man made it to DLC in the third video of this series! Wish I had thought of Blinky for his partner when I had made that video!
Im not playing without R.o.b. no way I'm paying for that
You can never have to much characters. Just let it be 100 and more. It can never be to much.
Thats true
Now 400 is not good
For super smash bros ultimate 2 if it comes over 110 characters should add a setting for character or 2 super smash bros ultimate deluxe
And 30 dlc packs
My Smash Bros Ultimate Duos
note1: I keep them as is if they’re already a duo and only added characters I felt were necessary.
note2: I also wasn’t afraid to cross-over some of these since it’s already Smash’s main concept.

Had to fix this in part 3 check it out!
ohho
I don't think making duos like Double Dash in smash is gonna be a thing.
Roster is gonna get a massive cut. My bet is gonna be 16-20 + 4-8 DLC
Not only are all Non-Nintendo Characters out, but plenty of retro ones are gonna be out.
G&W, IC, LM.
I think Pit stays, but LM is gonna be a DLC
Also think Sonic is out bbut maybe a DLC
Pokemon & FE are also gonna get a massive cut, down to 2-3 each
Fox stays, but Falco & Wolf are out
Now a big cut is gonna that all villains are out and none of them are coming as DLC.
Maybe not as ambitious as Subspace Emisary but maybe like the adventure mode. The game is gonna have us fight villains boss boosted modes (not necesary transformation like Gigabowser, just villains being naturally stronger characters like the orginal Metal Mario)
We are gonna get the original 8
+unlocks (Luigi/Pokemon2/FE1/FE2/Pit/Peach/Zelda/MinMin) (This makes 16, but maybe 4 more out of NEW franchises)
+DLC (LM/Nes being preorder) (Sonic + NEW) (Inkling or Isabelle + NEW) (NEW + NEW)
Many characters are gonna get moveset updates (like Mario stop having the water gun and Fox having knockback on laser, yoshi having 3 times Up-B but shorter but can be knock back)
A legacy focused Smash is a really realistic concept for whenever the next entry comes and the cuts are fair.
I have a new good Smash Fighter from a new Series
I would have picked Zero over Proto man cause he’s more unique and popular
Why didn’t you just pair Pac-Man with Miss Pac-Man?
Do I have the video for you! Check out part 3 of this series covering the DLC

Just make olimar Duo with Louie. Makes much more sense.
You kind of fucked yourself with roster slots by making it a duo revolved game. I mean isn’t every smash encourage the players to play with friends?
In the competitive scene duos plays vastly different. In a later video I also discuss additional team moves to help justify the duos gimmick. I'd recommend checking out all of the other videos in the series as I address a lot of criticisms in that last video!
Alph is now a duo for olimar???

It does say "I" in the title...
But I hope you enjoyed other aspects of the video and be sure to check out parts 2 and 3!
Your roster is trash
Stop getting rid of Characters and putting new Characters all if them are staying and STOP adding waluigi becuase sakurai will never add it to the roster that will be so embarissing to force someone to add a Character that he did never join
1. If the roster stays the same it's not really a new game just Ultimate 2, while the video is for a potential new game
2. Sakurai has unfortunately retired and it'll be very unlikely if he directs again
