- It's time for another "What if?" Smash video! For the third installment of the Blessed Timeline series, we'll look at the continuation of our fictitious series of games with the sequel title to Smash Bros. Deluxe on Wii: Super Smash Bros. Special. This game would not be made for the console you might assume, based on its predecessor - and features the largest collection of characters and stages yet, including some you may not expect.
If you enjoyed Smash Run, Trophies, Target Test, and a proper Adventure Mode from previous Smash titles, why not enjoy a concept for a game that has all of those things?

@davidvkimball and the crazy part about this video is that this time it's actually possible to make a mod just like this. We figured out *almost full character mods.
How far has modding for Ultimate come that it's possible to add new stages, characters, costumes & music without replacing anything already in the game? It'd be awesome if it's finally possible to add the rest of the missing stages from the previous games that weren't put in officially for whatever reason.

The only thing missing, though realistically I understand the development time would probably prevent it (even in a blessed timeline!), is Board the Platforms! I've always loved and missed that mode! It felt like the perfect partner to Break the Targets. You da man!
Great call. I was debating about including Board the Platforms, but I was thinking making 107 individual break the targets stages *and* 107 individual board the platforms stages *MIGHT* be a tad overkill LOL. That would’ve been fucking amazing. Maybe, make it more like adventure mode instead of sub space. I mean in terms of how much damage you do. Or make it more like smash run with that stat increases

It's always intriguing to take a look at these kinds of what-if scenarios, and this is no exception. While I do find the omission of some characters like Tails and Bandana Waddle Dee a little glaring, this is still a solid roster, and the lack of those two is made up for with one specific inclusion: Klonoa! He's legitimately my greatest dream fighter of all, and I'm so happy that you've included him here, and doubly so that he's in the base roster. If Klonoa were to be made playable in an official Smash Bros. game somewhere down the line, it would absolutely be a dream come true for me, as he's a character that I feel would be right at home in the roster. All in all, this was an excellent watch!

@@davidvkimball I genuinely think HDR, is what Smash Bros Ultimate should have been. All you need to do is remove Bylith and replace them either with Monster Hunter or Doom Guy and it would’ve been a perfect roster. But we got that little blemish.
I have a few problems with the video.
The DLC Fighters are all pretty good picks but they don't have a single first party character, there are a lot of first party characters that are highly requested like Bandana Dee, Octoling, Ashley, Paper Mario, Raven Beak, Porky, Excite Biker, Takamuru ecc... also in this timeline, characters that are in Ultimate would also be highly requested like Isabelle, another Xenoblade Chronicles Fighter or even another Fire Emblem Fighter
If you want this to be the perfect timeline, the Mii fighters should also be here, they could get costumes just like in Ultimate but the costumes are mostly based om other highly requested characters and they would come with music track just like the Sans, Cuphead and Shantae costumes from Ultimate.
Echo Fightets should be in the game, they are easy to make and they can be used to add more characters that aren't just the protagonists of their respective games.
Why would you remove the Koopalings and give Bowser Jr a moveset based on a thing that he almost never uses anymore and clashes so much with Inkling?
Fair critiques! My video's choices just seem like the (mostly) logical culmination of an alternative strategy Nintendo would consider for Smash - partnering and collaborating with other game studios to setup mutually beneficial promos for other games. Celebrating Nintendo's mascots would be a core feature insofar as it led to sales of future games and IP (with some exceptions). That's the direction I decided to go with these videos, but you're also not wrong in your assessment. It was also heavily biased in favor of what I would want lol. Regarding your Bowser Jr. point, I personally just don't like how he's in his clown car, and I really don't like the precedent that alt costumes became other characters. That's just me though!

The roster is so close to perfection. All that's missing for me are Tails, Shovel Knight and an Undertale rep. There are also some characters that I would rather remove from this roster, but I'm keeping those to myself. Also, wasn't there going to be a video about the updated Subspace Emissary from the blessed Brawl?

I just watched this video and I LOVED IT! I spent hours trying to connect everything in my mind if this was the real SSB4/SSBU when I was a teen back in 2016 (Personally I did not like 2016 in video games because of the many bad games that got released like Mighty No.9, Ghostbusters 2016, ETC. But SSBS would have saved 2016 for me. Please do what if SSBU/SSBS got a sequel please! Also, why was Isabelle, Lucina, Wii Fit Trainer, and Piranha plant cut from the roster? Their games were already out at the time.
So glad you enjoyed it! In this timeline, those characters wouldn't have made sense. Mii was already a rep for the Wii era and not necessary as a joke pick, Lucina was too redundant with Marth and Roy, Piranha Plant was another unnecessary joke character addon, and since this game would feature Villager, having two Animal Crossing reps would have been overkill for a series debut.

1. Klonoa is a dead franchise even Namco knows it. The franchise has not gotten a new entry in over a decade. It was lucky to get remakes.
2. Why would Nintendo promote Sony exclusive franchises? They would rather push games from developers and publishers that work with Nintendo systems.
3. Banjo-Kazooie was highly requested that is why he got in.
4. Hero was highly requested that is why he got in.
5. Terry was a favourite pick from Sakurai that is why he got in.
6. Sakurai and Namco wanted a Tekken character for a while. It is a big franchise for Nintendo.
Fair critiques! Don't forget that at the beginning of the video I mentioned this was the most fan service video of them all lol.
Regarding your first two points, my blessed timeline, my rules. Klonoa is a dead franchise in our reality, sure. But that doesn't necessarily extend to this one.
Nintendo and Sony wanted to work together, because based on the ripple effect of Smash Bros.' release in 2001, it became every video game company's dream to have their IP be on the Smash roster. Even though it seems unbelievable to us, it was something I was slowly building up to from the beginning of my Blessed Timeline series.

Fucking amazing. I'd like the option to change the background in Break the Targets to mimic Melee's and maybe a remix of the Targets theme from Melee too. For every character. Also this is ambitious, but what if adventure mode has a 3D mode, similar to Kirby Air Ride's City Trial or Kirby and the Forgotten Land? Where you can move around freely and kinda switch between side scrolling and 3D platforming like Sonic Unleashed, Colors and Generations. I wouldn't mind paying damn near 89.99 for this game or more. It would probably be game of the year and obviously be labeled as one of the greatest games ever made. I would also like Sakurai and crew to take a break from then and make Smash Special be the last game for a decade or so, giving us time to really appreciate the efforts and grow a large competitive scene. Also in the blessed timeline, NONE of the bad 2020 stuff happened, and everyone was *cough* good to one another...so the 5 gods + Leffen era blends with Zero's dominance and rivalry with Nairo, Dabuz, and Ally, the rise of MKLeo vs Tweek and Samsora, while new comers like Zain, Cody, Jmook, Spargo, Sonix, Marss, Glutonny and more keep pushing the boundaries of what can happen in Smash. Also, more women and others win a super major, as the scene becomes a safe place for all genders :) . This is my dream world, sorry for the long essay lol. Love this video!!

For the next roster, please consider adding:
-KOS-MOS (Xenosaga Episode I is her default skin, with her Episodes II & III iterations as alts) and T-elos as her echo (or just a skin). Could be used to promote a port of the PS2 trilogy (maybe also a continuation of the Xenosaga series since it was supposed to be six parts), which seems likely considering the popularity of the Xenoblade series.
-Ganon (from A Link to the Past)
-Crono (could be used to promote a Chrono Trigger remake or just because)
-Albert Wesker (using him MvsC3 is enough to make anyone want him in Smash)
-CATS (Zero Wing, to rep arcade spaceship shooters)
-Harry (from Teleroboxer, the only Nintendo game on the Virtual Boy if I’m not mistaken)
-Kefka (a solid retro choice and FFVI greatly helped pave the way for JRPGs partly because of great a villain Kefka is, could also be used to promote a FFVI remake)
-Dante (Virgil should get in the next Smash game, which would be the fifth Smash game in this Blessed Timeline)
-Masked Man (could be used to promote a Mother 3 remake or just because)
-Ratchet & Clank (the series has a strong following and the roster already has the other platform mascots so this duo should get it in to be with them)
-Paper Boy (Paper Girl from the second game would be half of the fighter’s alts)
-Grahf (could be used to promote a port of the legendary PS1 classic, and maybe also a continuation of the Xenogears story since it was supposed to be six parts, and that seems likely considering the popularity of the Xenoblade series.
-Battletoad
-Vaati (he could easily show up in a future Zelda)
-Dr. Eggman
-Dr. Wiley or Sigma
-Dragonite (would be so cool and surprise everyone)
-a rep from Terranigma (the obscure legendary classic that has yet to make it’s way outside of Japan, so this rep would be perfect to promote the game)
-Ivy (from SoulCalibur, and Voldo should get in the next Smash game within this Blessed Timeline)
-a rep from the Contra series
-the villain from Zelda Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity
-Vincent Valentine (perhaps not until the fifth Smash game in this Blessed Timeline which could coincide with the release of the third installment in the FFVII Remake).

-Dragon Fighter (to rep Smash 64’s prototype, Dragon King, which I’ve thought about for a while and then as you know Smash 64 Remix recently added this as probably the last fighter)
-a rep from Phantom Dust (hidden gem on the Xbox with a cult following)
-a MMO rpg rep (EverQuest deserves it the most in my opinion, Enchanter class would be cool otherwise this fighter’s moveset may not differ much from others in the roster)
-a Diablo rep (Necromancer and/or Witch Doctor)
-a FromSoftware rep (from Elden Ring, Bloodborne, or Dark Souls)
-an Elder Scrolls rep
-a Suikoden II rep (Riou duel wields tonfas-Jowy uses a fighting staff-Nanami uses her tri-nunchaku, and they’re a stance fighter)
Lance could be Dragonite’s trainer too
Great question and I forgot to specify ‘a Battletoad’ or make em a stance fighter. I am unfamiliar with the series so I do not know who to choose; I just think they would make for a great choice.
I lean heavily towards Morrowind for the Elder Scrolls rep
The only real fault I see with this hypothetical is the lack of certain franchises like splatoon or animal crossing. Personally I am indifferent but knowing Nintendo they would never pass up on the chance to promote themselves

@davidvkimball Well, actually, there are still missing fighters like Zero, Riku, Earthworm Jim, Dante, Neptune, Ryu Hayabusa, Sol Badguy, and Rash. I am also unsure about Sackboy and Kratos. Both were from Playstation All-Star. I wanted Scropion instead of Sub-Zero, but there are too many fighters that use a fire, so Sub-Zero is okay.

Pretty cool, although it’s a shame that Dr. Eggman didn’t even get put in as a playable character, then all of the most iconic video game villains would finally be in Smash together. Especially considering Smash Bros. is a celebration of gaming in general, even though of course I’m aware that Nintendo will always have the most representation in the series, Dr. Eggman still would’ve been a particularly important 3rd party inclusion and it’s just one more character to add. If I changed Smash Deluxe’s roster any differently I would’ve included Dr. Eggman over Knuckles, and the Sonic series would feel more represented by having Sonic, Shadow and Dr. Eggman in the game, having the representation be Sonic, Shadow and Knuckles just feels like weird representation for me.
Who says Dr. Eggman wasn't a boss? 👀
@@davidvkimballI guess that’s true, although it’d be pretty cool to have Mecha Sonic inspired by Super Mario Bros. Z as a boss instead in my opinion as well, that way Eggman could be a playable character along with the rest of the most iconic gaming villains in Smash which is my only nitpick, for me removing Eggman as a playable character is just as bad as removing Bowser, Ganondorf, Sephiroth, King K. Rool, Mewtwo, Ridley and King Dedede as a playable character from the roster, they’re too important to be cut from the game as playables, the only villain that’s from a different series compared to these other characters that I could accept being potentially cut from the game is Wolf, because Wolf has had the least amount of impact in gaming in general compared to the other 8 villains I mentioned, plus Andross is the real villain of Star Fox and even he’s not as iconic as the other villains I mentioned, but he would make for a great boss for a Smash story mode just like SMBZ inspired Mecha Sonic, also I think Hades from Kid Icarus Uprising would make for a great boss as well, but otherwise I still enjoy the majority of the additions to the roster for this alternate hypothetical timeline, which is pretty fun to think about.
@@Azureblue25 I hear you loud and clear. If there was a good way to make Eggman playable I'd be all for it, closest thing I've seen is him in Sonic Adventure 2, but that's not really *him* he's in a mech. So I think we'd have to consider that first.
@@davidvkimballEven I predicted he would most likely be in a mech, it still serves as a great representation for his character, so even then, it would still *feel* like him, so it probably wouldn’t be that big of a deal to put him in the egg walker from Sonic Adventure 2 and/or his egg mobile from the classic Sonic games and such, there would just need to be consideration on how to balance his moveset.

Normally I don't put much stock into fan projects, but this sounds fantastic! Smash Run HD alone makes this a great concept.

Unfortunately Master Chief, Sackboy and Kratos aren't on Nintendo consoles, so it would be impossible for them to be in Super Smash Bros.
Not necessarily! Sakurai hasn't ever stated that that was a rule, just that the character has to originate from a video game.

I got many ideas for the doom. Slice moves that for his moose said he’ll have a gimmick. He just have a weapon meter depending how much ammo he use oh, you don’t have to worry about master chief he’ll just have the same thing what was grenades and guns and ammo.

I have ideas of my own
I want a cursed timeline of "What if Smash 64 remained as Dragon King: The Fighting Game?" afterwards DKTFG might have continued and it would probably be a completely different story than the Melee cursed timeline because Smash wouldn't exist. Then the rest of the games could have cursed timelines that are actually the same as the Melee one, meanwhile DKTFG would have a separate timeline.
Overall thoughts on the roster (written as I'm watching it)
- Not a fan of Bowser Jr not using the clown kart, i think it makes him way more interesting
- Skull kid, peak
- I like how you handled Miis
- Shantae is cool
- Fighter's Pass 1 is kinda goofy, especially Sackboy, but i like it overall
- Fighter's Pass 2 is insane as well, Steve and Doom Guy make sense, Altïar is an interesting pick, Lara is odd and Kratos is borderline insanity

I don't agree - since resources weren't wasted on a 3DS version, and the combined development time would give them more to work with, they'd have a lot more than the mere parts. No time wasted on different artstyles, or catering features and stages to different platforms (Wii U and 3DS) it would all just be optimized for Switch.
This Super Smash Bros could be a "Service Game" just like Brawlhalla and Multiversus.

I understand your logic, but even then, I still wouldn't want them in regardless because I like the consistency of having the rule of "has to appear on a Nintendo system." Two characters I’m surprised are missing are Chrom and Lucina.
We already have a Marth semi-clone, Roy. We don't need two more. I debated on Chrom but like, idk. There are way too many FE characters in Ult so I was happy to cut that in half.

Just binged this series and loved it. Are you familiar with the machinima Smashtasm? It is basically a series about what if smash was an MMO but keeping the same 2d platform format smash has. Imagine choosing a server and once in, you can explore like how you can go to different areas like subspace emissary or club penguin. Imagine ranked play and making clans to go on missions together. It's a smash game that'll definitely never come to fruition but fun to think about. Super Smash Bros Online would be a perfect name for it.

I really loved the video! I would really liked to see things like BtT (or BtP even if is not included in the video, but i mean, 100+ characters, oof) or Adventure Mode in real SSB. Ultimate! Oh yeah i never thought i would need Taunt on Respawn so much until now lmao
I also liked the massive roster we got, tho i missed some than other inclusions like Piranha Plant (yes, that's right), it's really built well,
Oh yeah this timeline with the next consoles being mixed and being better in some features than the actual consoles we have like Rollback Netcode is CRAZY and by it means it's definitelly the blessed time line lol
Also, by the way, just a suggestion, but i would like if you some day maked a video about a different timeline (only one video tho) where instead of Melee, Smash 64 was a N64 launch title (or it launched on 2000/2001, last years of N64 life, i don't know if it can be expanded or something) it was developed since N64 develoment started on early 90's, and it basically had a lot of more content like the other games on the Blessed Timeline series, pretty much what Smash Remix has, and you know, More characters including the 4 scrapped ones, stages, items, game modes, mechanics and etc,

Each patch update also came with a wave of free DLC Fighters, containing 7 each (if you count the Aegis Sisters collectively as one).
Wave 1:
Rex was added to promote Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Pyra and Mythra, the Aegis Sisters, were also added to promote Xenoblade Chronicles 2 alongside Rex. Players could swap between Pyra and Mythra with Down B.
Piranha Plant was added because Sakurai wanted to include a common enemy in the roster.
Tails was added by popular demand.
Dark Pit was added as a semiclone of Pit because Kid Icarus Uprising had released during the development of Special.
Lucina was added as a semiclone of Marth as another Awakening rep.
Chrom was added as a semiclone of Roy as yet another Awakening rep.
Wave 2:
Incineroar was added due to Sakurai wanting a wrestler in the game.
Corrin was added because Fire Emblem Fates had been released during Special's development time.
Byleth was added to promote Fire Emblem Three Houses.
Isabelle was added as a semiclone of Villager to usher in the new generation of Animal Crossing.
Wii Fit Trainer was added because Sakurai thought that the yoga and fitness theme made for a unique, unorthodox moveset.
Meowth was added because Sakurai had wanted him in from the beginning of Smash's run. This would specifically be Team Rocket's talking Meowth as a tribute to the anime, though he still would get Pay Day as his Standard B.
Min Min was added as a semiclone of Spring Man because the creator of ARMS, Kosuke Yabuki, asked for her.
Wave 3:
Marina Liteyears from Mischief Makers was added to promote the Mischief Makers remaster and because Sakurai wanted to include a true grappler. This would be achieved by giving Marina the most command grabs out of any fighter, specifically her Down Air, Standard B, Side B, and all of her Smash Attacks, as well as a unique grab system where she could walk around with a grabbed foe and had to throw them by pressing A while aiming.
Goemon was added as another Konami rep and a unique ninja character.
Arle from the Puyo Puyo series was added because, even though Sakurai stated that he wasn't good at puzzle games, especially Puyo Puyo, he wanted to represent the genre and felt that Arle would be the most iconic choice.
Dr. Eggman was added to bring one more villain to the roster. Eggman would fight in the Eggmobile.
Heavy was added from Team Fortress 2 because Sakurai had recognized the size of the TF2 community.
Bandana Waddle Dee was added as another Kirby rep.
Frisk was added because Toby Fox asked Sakurai for an Undertale rep. Although Sans was more popular, they both agreed they wanted to use the main character, being Frisk.
