So, if you're willing to do a brawl video, is there any chance you're ever going to cover the other Non-HAL smash games? Personally, something like if Smash 4 never came to the 3DS interests me, if they never had to put the resources into that version and had the manpower of both games' dev teams, as well as not needing to account for the 3DS' limitations, how would the game have turned out? That's always something I've thought about. Edit: Wait was Brawl made by HAL? @@davidvkimballhowever, I do think it was a missed opportunity for sub-zero to not have his model from MK Armageddon, as that game had been released 2 years before Brawl did
Look, i get it's to help with video formatting and experiencing but don't use mods as a crutch when designing rosters, with Melee as the first, I could realistically see those characters happening but this feels a lot more obvious mainly: Toon Link being a fan favorite when 2 other Links existing Blazekin being in the game when there is another fully evolved fire starter right next to it. Palutena has a moveset, who unlike Pit wasn't playable and didn't have much to work with. Castlevania having two unique characters the first time around. Sub-Zero being around when ratings issues exist. Sora being playable despite Disney. There are limits to suspension of disbelief, sorry.
1 - Nintendo would realistic want to promote wind waker, Sakurai likes to add clone characters to make the roster bigger, Toon Link is a safe pick for both sides. 2 - I don't think Nintendo characters about which type of Pokémon they add in the game, if they did, we would had Decidueye instead of Incineroar in Ultimate (also a Ghost type, because it's baffled that till this day Smash never had a Ghost type Pokémon). 3 - I agree with Palutena, but Sakurai could make something for her if he want to, but the chances of the moveset being the exact same of Smash 4/Ultimate are kinda low. 4 - It depends on the development time, if it has enough time to develop both, i think they would add both, but yeah, adding 3 Castlevania characters could be a stretch, but if they had extra time, sure. 5 - Snake is also from an M Rated game, so, i don't see the problem with Sub-Zero, unless you mean something else? 6 - It was said on an interview that the issue with Sora getting in Smash was not Disney, but Square, there's also the fact that Sora is a character that need both companies to agree on everything for the character to be added, which must be awful, it's not too unrealistic for Sora to get in, i think the bigger problem is to have both Sora and Hero/Erdrick at once, 2 Square characters with Square being so problematic to work with might be a stretch.
@@banjo9158 Mortal Kombat is way more brutal than Metal Gear. It's more closer to Resident Evil, which is censored in Japan. As for Blazekin, my thought process is that he's too generic, Incineroar at least represented a fighting style that hadn't been fully represented. Personally, I would've gone with Swampert, it's a fully evolved water type that has a secondary typing of ground.
@@alleycatgaming5433 I don't think that would still give any rating issues, M Rated is M Rated, no matter what, might be harder to go through some issues here and there to make it work, but it's definetly doable. hell, i don't even doubt Residnet Evil would be possible even if it's more mature than Metal Gear, Resident Evil even have spirits in Smash, so i don't think there is an issue there, is that really your only concern? I understand wanting to choose someone else over Blaziken, hell, i think Gardevoir would be a better pick, i don't really care about Pokémon characters needing to be starters, Gardevoir is very popular, Gardevoir is a more female looking Pokémon which is good for more female representation and variety, Gardevoir could have a fun and unique moveset. But i think Blaziken back then was still more popular (safe to say Gardevoir is more popular nowadays because of... REASONS, but those... REASONS, weren't as spread out and as big as it is nowadays because of only few people having acess to internet, 2006 was a whole other world pretty much), and Nintendo would more likely choose him over everyone else, i think even Sakurai would, it's just the more likely outcome, it sucks, but it is what it is, although i don't think Blaziken is a bad inclusion overall, there's just better options.
Consequences of the blessed timeline from the previous video (What if Melee was the first Smash game?) * Microsoft's buyout of Rareware is butterflied away, as Banjo's appearance in Smash Deluxe implies that either Microsoft's offer fell through, Activision made a better offer, or Nintendo outright bought out Rare. As a result of this, Diddy Kong Pilot and Banjo Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge are released on the GBA as first-party titles (alongside Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Kameo and Viva Pinata onto the GC and Wii, if they aren't butterflied away), Donkey Kong Racing gets finished and released on the GC (butterflying away Donkey Kong Barrel Blast), and Banjo-Threeie is a more traditional platformer, as Nintendo convinces Rare that the ideas for Nuts and Bolts are too divergent of the traditional BK formula. (Nuts and Bolts' engine and mechanics get used for an original property that doesn't exist in our timeline) * Square and Enix's merger still happens as in IOT (since FF: The Spirits Within still likely happened), but Squeenix's relationship with Nintendo is improved with Cloud's appearance in SSB, with the ports of FF1 through FF6 on the GBA happening earlier than IOT, as well as graphically enhanced ports of FF7, FF8 and FF9 on the GC with post-game bonus dungeons and bosses and maybe versions of FFX and X-2, FFXI (compatible with the GC broadband adapter), Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 (based on the Final Mix versions) and Dragon Quest 8. (DQ4, 5, 6 and 7 get remakes on the GBA and DS). Geno's inclusion * Ryu and Ken's appearance in Smash Deluxe likely build up interest for SFIV, which gets released around the same time as IOT, and gets a slightly downgraded port to the Wii. * Metal Gear Solid is ported to the GameCube, and is much more of a straight port than The Twin Snakes, and is followed by a port of MGS2. (which contains a bonus campaign focusing on Snake's perspective that is later included in the Greatest Hits rerelease on the PS2) MGS3 gets a port on the Wii as well. * Mother 3 is finished earlier for the N64, as HAL had more time to work on it with Smash 64 being butterflied away. Unlike IOT, it does get an international release as EarthBound 64, due to the drought of JRPGs on the system and is somewhat darker than our timeline's version of the game. Mother 1+2 on the GBA also gets an international release, and has a slightly updated translation for both games, for consistency with both EarthBound and EarthBound 64. * As a result of these butterflies, the Nintendo GameCube is more successful than IOT (though still not even coming near the PS2, saleswise), with Nintendo's kiddy image being further shattered and their image of being hard to work with being shattered, with many PS2 or Xbox exclusive games IOT getting GameCube ports. Microsoft's Xbox, while still successful thanks to the popularity of Halo, has to settle for third place.

This looks cool, and the roster looks amazing. I just wish that Tails was there alongside Sonic, Shadow, and Knuckles (I'm sorry for saying that). And would it be possible to see the new Brawl trophies like in Melee or no?
Some of the characters here wouldve been cut or replaced, like young link being replaced for toon link, and pichu being replaced for plusle and minun who were a part of the forbidden seven. Speaking of the forbidden seven, i could see dixie kong being added as a semi clone of diddy, just like how toon link and wolf were last minute smei clone additions And now that wolf was already added in the last game, maybe they could put krystal in this one, since in our timeline she actually was considered but decided against as it was easier to add wolf as a semi clone with the time they had. Now that this is the second game and im assuming this is after the first game was a massive success in the blessed timeline, square would probably be fine with cloud joining the roster Sub Zero is too much of a pipe dream pick even for this timeline I dont see toon link being a highly rquested zelda newcomer when midna, skull kid, impa and even tingle are probably the ones u hear most often when it comes to zelda newcomers in our timeline No lynn is kinda odd since she's a fan favourite I dont see black shadow being highly requested, he would probably be a toon link or wolf situation where its a bonus semi clone character added late into development. The only reason ppl ask for him in our timeline is so ganondorf can get a new moveset with black shadow using his current moveset but with the brawl/sm4sh smash attacks instead of the sword isaac i can see being added in, as well as andy or sami from advance wars I wouldve added classic megaman over X also would rare still be a second party developer for nintendo in this timeline?

I at least get to see geno in smash bros! Is there a what if timeline for smash bros ultimate? I bet the roster would be over 100 this time 😱😱😱😱My only hope is to see crono and conker in smash bros.
A blessed timeline Brawl that played like Melee would require Sakurai not being involved or him going back on his stance on Melee being too competitive. Again I have to dunk on Sakurai here, don’t hate him but he made excuses for excluding Ridley. Lastly, Banjo arguably doesn’t belong because his latest game back then (geez it’s still his latest game) soured fans on the franchise. If he was put in I think he’d have his Nuts & Bolts appearance because Rare actually preferred it, I imagine you threw him in there because the mod was available.
First of all, this isn't true! Sakurai only changed his stance on advanced mechanics in fighting games after 2004 or so when he left HAL, so if he were to start a sequel immediately after Melee's release, it would have likely adhered to the same rules of his previous title(s). Also, Nuts and Bolts came out in 2007, well after Wii's launch in 2006. In this universe, the pair would be returning fighters, so they'd have their appearance as you see in this video. Lastly though, like I say in the video, this is all just for fun anyway.
@@davidvkimball Guess you know more about Smash and its daddy than I do. Doesn’t escape me the videos are for fun, discussing the intricacies of these what ifs is also fun. Gives me an excuse to make a comment that isn’t generic praise or something that’s already been said. Four years is plenty of time to ruin blessed Brawl, and leaving out Sakurai’s responsibility for the lack of a true Melee successor avoids stirring controversy. I personally would’ve included it anyway. I’ve always wanted to know if the first Brawl builds played like Melee, the facts you presented suggest they did not.
@@davidvkimball Oh and kudos for including Sukapon, not only does it hail from Nintendo’s first fighting game it also fills the role of oddball Sakurai pick. Don’t know if you did it intentionally, you likely are aware Sakurai has a knack for including one unexpected and possibly controversial fighter because it amuses him or something. The first 3 games are either the exception or it’s vague which character it is. In the original Smash it’s probably Jigglypuff, it gives off the most joke character vibes of the cast. In Melee it might be Pichu for similar reasons. In Brawl there is none or it’s Sonic since he was very unexpected, Sonic was still partially perceived as Nintendo’s biggest rival. SSBWU’s is obvious, it’s Wii Fit Trainer. Same goes for Ultimate, Sakurai must’ve requested Piranha Plant.
This one seems too detached from reality to be a thing. It took five games to get a similarly sized roster here. And as much as I don’t like cuts, they probably would have happened like they did in our Brawl. Though Ultimate would still bring everyone back eventually. Also not sure about characters like Waluigi and Sub Zero. Mortal Kombat isn’t even sold in Japan.
It was, before 2015, and this game is in 2006, not only MK was still being sold in Japan in 2007 a new MK game would be released on the Wii with exclusive content.

@@davidvkimball Not only you made my year, but we're officially full circle now. (Read my previous comment in the video you recently posted. I know I didn't say that much but still wanted to tell you that we've officially reaches full circle now.)
Here’s a what if. What if Minecraft Story Mode entered development sooner and released in 2014.
What? 😅
5:53 that's the point where you realize you're dreaming and decide to soar off over the mountains.
Yep lol
Just finished watching the first vid before this. I'm super hype for what you guys got here ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Thanks! I hope you enjoyed both vids.
Tbh I can't remember anymore, I swear it wasn't tho, if it is I really need to refresh my knowledge on the history of this franchise.
Brawl was not made by HAL. Also you bring up an interesting premise, honestly that's the one idea I might roll with if I did do a Smash 4 video.
@@davidvkimball I'm glad you like my idea! Personally it's always something I've thought about a ton, especially given Sm4sh was the first smash I really got invested in, it holds a special place to me. 😅
@@Helios2737 There's no doubt the 3DS version held the Wii U version back. People enjoy Smash Run and I get that, but overall it did more harm that good. Imagine if they could have poured those resources into the Wii U version. Of course the 3DS version sold better, so financially it was the right choice. Still... haha.
@@davidvkimball Yeah! Smash Run is like, the one thing that made 3DS worth it. The novelty of playing Smash on a console barely bigger than an iPhone was certainly there but like, it wore off fast.
I think if the game had only been on WiiU it would've been way worse financially, but the game would've been significantly better, and possibly might've actually sold more WiiUs
@@Helios2737 Yep agreed
If there was one character that I wanted in smash was ryu hyabusa from (ninja gaiden) and is mind blown to me that we never got a dlc, mii suit, or even a trophy at any point in the smash series but yet his games started on nes and even team ninja help made a few games with nintendo but snake in the same way starting out on nes as well, was able to make it into the games. btw no dr. eggman trips me out how that iconic villain also never made it either is wild and poor waluigi fans who really wanted him in the games too.
Interesting, yeah Ryu Hyabusa is a great choice. Would love to see the Ninja Gaiden series get more love.
Same with digimon and FNAF
I feel like a game like this would come out after 2008, not 2006.
Really enjoyable video David. Proud of ya!
Thanks!
This is super cool! I think the main change I would make would be purely visual, just to make the Brawl artstyle a little more consistent throughout the game, although that's more of a Project Remix problem than a video problem
Totally. And the fact is, I could have nabbed more footage from vanilla Brawl, but I liked showcasing the other modes +features for visibility.
For the latest DX update for REMIX, the team made an effort to make the backported characters from Ultimate visually fit in more with the Brawl artstyle. Hopefully you noticed the differences while watching David's video!
@@MonteRicard I played remix a few months ago, how often is it updated?
@@tigglesbruh the latest version (.95DX) dropped on the 18th of April, and the latest trailer for the build also highlighted the new visuals for the backported characters.

Thank you for doing these videos they’re very fun and nostalgic. Really looking forward to the Blessed Timeline versions of Smash 4 and Ultimate if you do em.
but Wii was called as Nintendo Revolution (Early Name) in this timeline?
yes!
Ik this is a concept but I feel like a real smash deluxe on WII would have like 40 at the most even if development started in 2002
Could be!
The only things I see as unrealistic are:
Little Mac being in his design from Punch-Out!! Wii, And Lucas being in his Mother 3 design despite Earthbound 64 having been released.
These are good catches!
LESSGOOO?
A SEQUEL??? Truly awesome, honestly this would be such a Goated timeline.. AND I CAN PLAY IT, TOO? (fr PMEX is so good)
now I only wonder…. would 4th party be on the table in this universe?

Sub-Zero…?
MY DREAMS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!!
🙏
@@davidvkimballhowever, I do think it was a missed opportunity for sub-zero to not have his model from MK Armageddon, as that game had been released 2 years before Brawl did
Ok, now I’m anticipating what this guy is gonna do for ultimate
👀
Look, i get it's to help with video formatting and experiencing but don't use mods as a crutch when designing rosters, with Melee as the first, I could realistically see those characters happening but this feels a lot more obvious mainly:
Toon Link being a fan favorite when 2 other Links existing
Blazekin being in the game when there is another fully evolved fire starter right next to it.
REASONS, weren't as spread out and as big as it is nowadays because of only few people having acess to internet, 2006 was a whole other world pretty much), and Nintendo would more likely choose him over everyone else, i think even Sakurai would, it's just the more likely outcome, it sucks, but it is what it is, although i don't think Blaziken is a bad inclusion overall, there's just better options.
not intending to convince anyone that this is realistic, just a fun story.
@@davidvkimball also because there is already a mod for blaziken, which makes it easier to edit.
Consequences of the blessed timeline from the previous video (What if Melee was the first Smash game?)
* Microsoft's buyout of Rareware is butterflied away, as Banjo's appearance in Smash Deluxe implies that either Microsoft's offer fell through, Activision made a better offer, or Nintendo outright bought out Rare. (Nuts and Bolts' engine and mechanics get used for an original property that doesn't exist in our timeline)
* Square and Enix's merger still happens as in IOT (since FF: The Spirits Within still likely happened), but Squeenix's relationship with Nintendo is improved with Cloud's appearance in SSB, with the ports of FF1 through FF6 on the GBA happening earlier than IOT, as well as graphically enhanced ports of FF7, FF8 and FF9 on the GC with post-game bonus dungeons and bosses and maybe versions of FFX and X-2, FFXI (compatible with the GC broadband adapter), Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 (based on the Final Mix versions) and Dragon Quest 8. (DQ4, 5, 6 and 7 get remakes on the GBA and DS). Geno's inclusion
* Ryu and Ken's appearance in Smash Deluxe likely build up interest for SFIV, which gets released around the same time as IOT, and gets a slightly downgraded port to the Wii.
Also We Need Raiden Or Big Boss Both From Metal Gear In This Timeline

LOL. I accept your apology. Also yeah, you can see the new trophies at the end.
@@davidvkimball Neat. Thanks
Some of the characters here wouldve been cut or replaced, like young link being replaced for toon link, and pichu being replaced for plusle and minun who were a part of the forbidden seven.
Speaking of the forbidden seven, i could see dixie kong being added as a semi clone of diddy, just like how toon link and wolf were last minute smei clone additions
And now that wolf was already added in the last game, maybe they could put krystal in this one, since in our timeline she actually was considered but decided against as it was easier to add wolf as a semi clone with the time they had.
Now that this is the second game and im assuming this is after the first game was a massive success in the blessed timeline, square would probably be fine with cloud joining the roster
Sub Zero is too much of a pipe dream pick even for this timeline
I dont see toon link being a highly rquested zelda newcomer when midna, skull kid, impa and even tingle are probably the ones u hear most often when it comes to zelda newcomers in our timeline
No lynn is kinda odd since she's a fan favourite
I dont see black shadow being highly requested, he would probably be a toon link or wolf situation where its a bonus semi clone character added late into development. The only reason ppl ask for him in our timeline is so ganondorf can get a new moveset with black shadow using his current moveset but with the brawl/sm4sh smash attacks instead of the sword
isaac i can see being added in, as well as andy or sami from advance wars
I wouldve added classic megaman over X
also would rare still be a second party developer for nintendo in this timeline?
Toon Link was added on Deluxe, not Special. And yeah Rare would still be second party.
Well, I still like brawl, although there could be more stuff added, especially miis as this was a wii game
Kinda happy Miis were not in it tbh
@@davidvkimball Well, miis were one of the biggest parts of the newer Nintendo systems, and people who wished for certain characters that never got in would want to make customs, and some don't even know how to mod

No disrespect; this feels a bit _too_ much. Still a fantastic video though
Thank you! Definitely, that's the beauty of the blessed timeline. I can make it whatever I want 😂
@@protocetid totally agree it's for fun! thanks for your comments
