  • Prisoner of war Sergey Fedoseev, a native of Donetsk, worked in a mine, and when it closed, he survived by earning a taxi. On February 24, 2022, he was caught by the local commandant’s office and, along with other men, was sent to Ilovaisk. Fedoseev spoke about the realities at the front, about how he was captured by the Ukrainian servicemen and how they treated him. The prisoner of war also noted that neither the Russians, nor the residents of the occupied territories, who left the battlefield, would not be able to get lost in Russia. In addition, the prisoner of war emphasized that he lived much better under Ukraine, and today life in occupied Donetsk is like in a concentration camp.

My cousin from Rostov was taken from his place of employment in a factory making cardboard boxes and told he is going to Ukraine to defend the motherland... from who was not told. Weeks later they were told the entire world wanted Russia to die, and it was up to them to save Russia. If they didn't they were traitors and not 'real' Russians. My 19yr old cousin surrendered after his platoon was wiped out, over 90 odd Russian forced-conscripts killed. Surrounded by advancing well trained Ukrainian soldiers he knew he was going to be killed along with all the other poorly trained and prepped members of his unit, so he gave up. He never wanted to be there and didn't believe his countries leaders that Russia was going to be wiped out by Ukraine or the collective West...in his opinion none of them should be in Ukraine and killing people for Putin's delight. He spent 17 weeks in Ukranian custody and was fed 3 times a day and given comfortable bedding and medical treatment by the people he was sent to kill. Privately he admitted his battalion had orders to take no prisoners, and wondered how his life may have been different if he was treated the same way his comrades treated Ukrainian soldiers. He got swapped for Ukrainian soldiers and was immediately ordered back to the front and looked down upon for surviving his units massacre...as he said, he was treated like a traitor by his superiors for surviving the massacre. Last we heard he had been sent to the front lines near Adrivka and all communication devices had been confiscated, lest he communicate any details to friends, family or the enemy. No one has heard from him for nearly 7 weeks now and all are thinking the worst. This young man had many Ukrainian friends before the war and could not understand why they were suddenly declared evil and needed killing. He never outright said so as he is not stupid, but he knew full well Russia had no business invading Ukraine and subjecting their supposed brothers to such inhumane and horrific treatment...we just hope he is still alive and might get through this atrocity forced upon him by lunatics drinking wine in their luxurious surroundings.

Thanks for sharing. I'm sorry about your cousin. It gets easier to make blanket statements about hating Russians. But the truth is there are many just swept up by the police state they live in. The guy in this interview despite some mis information basically said "I had a Good life I was happy. Things where affordable. We traveled we all got along. I was with my family.. None of this made sense" n that pretty much sums it up for millions. Putin just couldn't let things be. He wanted empire. Really sucks.

I watch the Russian "1420 by Daniil Orain" channel here on YT. Daniil is a savvy interviewer who asks Russian people in the street about certain topical issues. In WW2 there were the Good Germans, the ones who resisted the Nazis. Well, Daniil is one of the Good Russians, knowing what and how to ask everyday Russians questions about the war, where they stand and what they think. It is often hard to get straight replies if the responders are anti war/Putin(and there are many that he comes across), there is much fear there in Russia, but Daniil takes the risks to make people in Russia step up and think.
When the Ukraine wins this war I hope they remember and acknowledge folk like Daniil: Ones who resisted in the ways they did to help stop or curb what is so very wrong in Russia and by proxy in the Ukraine with this war. 💙🧿

With $100B pumped into Ukraine just the last 1.8 years, however, most Ukrainian soldiers, from the life long pros to the newly conscripts, are well supplied with weapons, clothing, light body armor, basic maneuver sessions (tens of thousands also having trained in the West, by experienced NATO guys who've been in many wars in the last 40 years)....

Yep, they earn 3.5 million rubles a year and yet they are still poorer than the average Ukrainian. Why, it costs 350 million rubles just for a house in New Zealand. Immigration has made the cost of living so expensive, even the big money you earn still means you are poor. A cup of coffee in New Zealand set you back 2000 rubles as well.
The governments answer print more money and pay more, only the more you get the sooner you find yourself paying a higher tax bracket, essentially meaning the more you earn the less you get. It is a net win for the government, but for the average person, it is a complete scam. The focus shouldn't be on increasing pay, but on decreasing the cost of living. Something the New Zealand government won't help with. One obvious way for the government to decrease costs is by doing away with GST/ VAT. The worst gangster tax in the world.

Russians generally have very poor hygiene. Many homes outside the cities do not have inside bathrooms. If you visit a major city and you need to use the bathroom, the babushka will hand you TWO pieces of hard toilet paper (like UK schoolchildren used in the 1960's). Personal observation of public facilities I noticed that washing your hands after wiping is not commonplace.
