Nissan should have updated the RB and made a new straight-6 successor! I can only imagine how ridiculous it would have been with the technology of the VR38 in an RB series straight configuration.
@AcomsRazor1776 At the time the swap was done, the vq was an untested option. Yes the rb is heavier, but it isn't by 200lbs. it's closer to 140lbs. And yes it sits longer so sticks out a bit more, and is a bit taller. But, and this is a big but specially at that time period, this motor is an absolute monster, I have seen well maintained stock r32 rb26 and by stock I mean stock bottom end, put 550bhp and drive around reliably. And I have seen more than one of them do that.

it has won rally championships because the ones who tuned it were the best in their field. An STi rally car has no subaru parts left in it anymore, besides the chassis and engine. A Subaru in 2006-2008 WRC experienced severe losses due to they kept an intercooler stock. Its good in a way, its also crap in other ways.

Subaru's parts are excellent without doubt they just don't have that longevity you can find on other car manufacturers STi just makes it worst, their performance parts don't last long. I used to have belief in subaru but when our legacy STi broke down in grand fashion, i now hate it

Instead of producing a special engine they use one for about 6 different models. Plus you'll notice that the 350z uses the same platform as a few other Nissans. When you come down to it, it's about being cheap. Production costs are much lower when everything is the same.

Muscle cars got a lot of horses, but they're powered by six-litre engines, which are by any standard ENORMOUS considered that a three-litre RB26 can output 400HP and a N/A VQ35 has been tuned to make the same hp figures of a muscle. So, in muscle cars, power equals weight. Still, they're damn fun if you're not in for some precision cornering.
I took my gf's g37 for a service, the infiniti guy told me the vq37vhr will be the last for performance nissan/infiniti's, they are working on a 2.5-2.8l twin turbo 6, now he couldn't say whether its inline6 or v6, i dear hope its inline6. 335i WATCH OUT All i can say is Bring back the RB26 BABY, slap twin scroll turbos on it, dash of VVEL, a slice of Direct Injection, season with variable compression ratio to side step emissions and boast fuel economy and BINGO! 350-370hp 450-480 Nm of torque

So they simply stuffed the rb which we know can make that power without a sweat. I agree I wouldn't do this swap. Not to a z anyways. My s14 on the other hand. The whole point of racing is to make a vehicle go as fast as possible with the best traction and least amount of weight against it. That is why we have a power to weight ratio. Muscle cars do not handle turns worse because of it's horsepower. It's about weight distribution and suspension. Your not going to see a

Which means, lot of nose weight, and lot of understeer. In a car that weights 1.4 to 1.6 tonnes and runs on leaf springs, it means you'll be hardly taking any corner if not straight. In a snappy little car like the Shelby Cobra, it's even worse. The car will corner, but any little mishap with the steering or the throttle, and you're done.

don't get me wrong. I really wish the z lineup would have stuck to the inline engines throughout the years. i really wish the new gtr had an inline too. But in no way did nissan ruin the z line up by putting v6's in them. the old vg30's are killer engines and can hold way more power than a rb. plus the 350z engine is 300+hp n/a from 3.5L. That's impressive to me. just not the best to boost because of the higher compression.

@AcomsRazor1776 Don't get me wrong, vq's have their strength in power to weight. And if your aim is around 450bhp the vq would give you a better torque band than the rb. But it simple isn't as tough as an rb. The swap would be difficult, and thats an understatement, however, espirit is a big shop, with lots of resources, and some seriously epic mechanics, so they can pull this off. And as far as the getting attention, well yeah it's a pretty nice showoff piece to attract more customers.
@FanFerrari23 enlighten me on my false statement. If u think the rb26 is a better engine than the vg30dett u are sorely wrong. The vg30 still holds the fastest 1/4 mile time of any import car. Its in a drag car with a 350z shell powered by a 1900+rwhp vg30 running 6.92 at over 220+mph. Yet to see any rb powered vehicle run a time like that. skyline would be more fun to own and drive but in no way is the rb26 the better engine. this coming from a true inline fanatic also.
