Get them cremated, and find a pretty urn to store their ashes. Then you can keep your loved one in the home, and not have to worry about leaking mausoleums, casket failure, vandalism, etc. Keep a cherished photo of them next to the urn, and a vase of fresh flowers. This is why family needs to go back to taking care of their own from the cradle to the grave. ( My Granny a wise mountain woman taught me this, she raised me as a small child) Everyone wants someone else to deal with their issues.. throw some money at the problem and let someone else deal with the ones you say you love!
When I worked in nursing homes it broke my heart to see the family dump family in these places and not be seen except holidays if that. Yet when their family passed on they are the same ones declaring their undying love and how much they did for the person.
These are the forgotten family. Then when their loved one is gone they make a few phone calls and throw more money begrudgingly ( most of the time) then complain the most.
I saw how this worked. So I had 60 patients to care for at nights ( 3rd shift) so I could take care of my Mom in our home ( once Mom had a stroke I was told she would have to go to a nursing home) .. no! My home became my mom’s home. I had the honor of caring for my her first the last 7 years of her life. She passed in her room of an aneurism. Being an only child. I did her hair, I cleaned her and dressed her so her siblings could see the best her they could. It was the last thing I could do for the woman who gave me life and loved me. Then I buried her. I did the same with my father when his time came. My sons who were adults with our loss of Dad when I asked helped. I was promised by them they would be honored to send my body off. I hope their children will honor and love them as much.

@@basbleupeaunoire .. funny story! Mom had a sense of humor and I’m sure that day she was laughing at the shenanigans.
Mom was always late and said she was going to be late to her own funeral. She made me promise her I would have her cremated and burry her ashes between her parents. She had a plot there but that was not what she wanted. So all of her family and friends met at my Aunts home for the Wake. We set up a table with her picture, favorite flowers and a candle .. and the Urn with her ashes. The funeral home calls to tell me there was a mix up. Mom wouldn’t be ready for pick up until the next day. I said Noooo!!! We have family here for a wake from as far away as Alaska. So they said her ashes were cooling . I go to pick up her hot ashes late.. so she was late for her wake. The cemetery said I could not put her ashes between her parents. I could put her at the head or foot of either. That was not what she made me promise and I rarely make promises because I never break one. After dark me and my youngest son and Uncle and the two religious aunts who own businesses and are very community/ church minded ( I’m the heathen of the family) go to put Mom where she wanted. The Aunts and Uncle kept look out and occupied the one town policeman who decided to see why we were in the cemetery after dark. I dug the hole, my son put mom in the hole . I covered her up and and placed the grass back I cut out. I placed flowers on the headstone . The immediate family knows where her ashes are.. but to everyone else they don’t have a clue. 😉.
Now Dad was in a coffin ( much to my dismay. I wanted to cremate him too but the Aunts from hell said No) . The cemetery Dad was placed in me and my sons buried him. They allowed it as long as their fellows could inspect the job.

This issue is one in a million others that will never be suitably solved, because of all the red tape, the passing of the buck and great divides that exist in politics, race, class, social and economic classes. It's fascinating to watch news report after news report of situations which showcase the slow but inevitable deterioration of America. What's even more interesting is that all the causes are self-inflicted. No external forces from other countries are involved, which makes you wonder why the US insists on forcing their policies on other countries, when they clearly don't function well in their own.

Question. Please correct me if I'm wrong but if the body not buried or cremated I would think it would leak during decomposition that's why it's best to bury.. I would hate to visit one and be stepping on auntie 🙄

People are paying good money to be buried at these places. Bodily fluids are very hazardous, and should be cleaned up properly, all these cemeteries should be fined more that’s $14,000 per fine and violations because they’re being paid that amount or higher to bury people there and to keep the properties up and well maintained, that is totally not acceptable.

Embalming is a short term thing. It's not forever. We've been led to believe it is, but that's only in ideal conditions, underground. If your vault leaks, then you'll decompose. If it stays scrupulously dry, and cool, you'll last a hundred years, maybe longer, but that's more the exception than the rule.

  • @KeithKeihsaBrock

Its a fact that lazy unfit people work at this cemetery and a lot of cemeteries around the United States that won't keep the property maintained. Leaking body fluid is a normal thing its what happens when the body starts decomposing and the coffin starts to leak. The maintenance personnel should clean up the fluid immediately with Clorox. If the coffin maker's would manufacture coffins that were sealed tight with no chance of leaks then this would not be an issue. And for the prices a person pays for coffins, plots/mausoleum, headstones, you would think that it all would be the absolute best with no flaws or issues to deal with. To the people who run cemeteries you work at a place that is supposed to be a final resting place for loved ones its not a place to be ignored it has to be kept up daily and it always has to be done with respect. If you can't handle the job don't take the job.

A well designed mausoleum will include small vents and a drain in each enclosure. These vents go to the roof. Mausoleums without drains should be using plastic tarp the casket sits in. If these steps aren't taken problems are only a matter of time. I would love to be in a mausoleum, but owners do go bankrupt and there is no one to step in to keep the place protected and care for. That just leaves cremation or the ground for me. Preferably the ground.

One of the main reasons bodies throughout history were able to be kept above ground was that they were properly mummified. todays procedures don't seem to be a match. all this is only for the living. look at the prolonged pain now because of this mismanagement, of a very obsolete ritual imo.
