I'm a 31 year old from the Netherlands who's been a lover of Aimee's musical poetry since Lost in Space's release in 2003. And I have yet to find anyone in my circle who either knows of Aimee, likes her music or even appreciates it. I feel like such a fish out of water when I mention her to friends, colleagues or family. Most of the people I know like pop music (I do too!) but Aimee just hits different. The tone of her voice, her music, her lyrics just ignite something inside me I can't describe. Whenever I hear her voice, I almost get a physical reaction to it. She is someone so special to me. It instantly makes me melancholic for some reason. I'm so thankful for her existence. I wish she knew how her music touches people of all walks of life! It's late over here and I'm probably rambling and not making sense. But I just appreciate her so much. She's also so down to earth and real. I find it refreshing in a world where most people are obsessed with how "fun" and "interesting" they appear to others.
I feel the same as you and everything you said. And I just discovered her a couple months ago. Just told old friend about her before I saw your comments. Take care friend. Eric in Crescent City, CA
I'm in Germany and I feel the same way. But she's brilliant. There's hardly a song of hers I don't like. The lyrics are always great. Your'e not alone Jack.
I'm a 62 yr olf life-long music lover. I discovered Aimee Mann last year via Spotify. Love all her CD's! Entrancing songs and amazing musicians & production- I especially like Lost In Space.
Lee Yan, Yes it is. And, now that she has established her own independent label (SuperEgo), the vinyl pressing is excellent too! She has complete artistic control of the finished product for the first time in her life; and the album is gem like in multiple respects, from performance, to production, mastering, pressing, and awesome iconic packaging. I so look forward to her next project...
Not so long ago Lucinda Williams did the same. Such independence lets these talented musicians create really great works. Unfortunately their chances to get some big awards, like Grammys, are not so big now.
Lee Yan, I haven't had any interest in the Grammy's in decades. The industry has systematically destroyed itself by pandering to the lowest common denominator and pushing out inferior products since the dawn of the CD era. I am heartened that it is possible for a pop artist to survive and produce creditable work despite an industry operated by and for attorneys. It is a niche market, to be sure; but there are people who can hear the difference between art that is simply commercial pandering and art that actually says something about the human condition. No, I don't think Aimee will be taking a Grammy home in the foreseeable future. Given that the major labels cannot press a quality lp to save their lives, that is a strange sort of inverse litmus test.
+First Name Last Name, that is a very good point, my friend, I can't agree more and I can't add anything else. Such a splendid art will always have its devoted listeners even without big trophies.
Aimee's smile at 3:47 ... so peaceful. I have always loved her music, back to Boston in the 80's ... through her work with Jon Brion ... first solo work and the Magnolia years. Her craft of her songs, her melodies and her work for me is pretty sublime and transcendent. She's just fabulous.
I went to see Aimee Mann perform in early March of 1996 at Berbati's Pan. It was a last minute decision as I saw an advertised in The Oregonian newspaper. So I drove directly down to the concert hall and it was sold out but as soon as I parked and walked toward the front door there was a hall usher telling others to come back to the back door and he would sell us the last of the tickets at the last minute. They oversold the house, a popular restaurant-tavern that usually packs in the crowds down in Old Town Portland Oregon my hometown. We had to stand shoulder to shoulder in a packed crowd. I was only about 25 feet out from the middle front stage. Of all life concerts have seen in many famous rock stars and photograph them I wish I had photographed Aimee up close in this concert with her band. It's the closest I've ever watched a musical artist perform. The crowd was so tight pressed against each other that everyone was swaying to her music and you felt like it was all part of one movement and sound experience. I could see the sweat dripping off her face and soaking her white t-shirt eventually. This is a great performances here, as her haunting and beatiful voice hasn't changed in over 26 years. Still such a beautiful performer. [It's also interesting here that she mentions the Portland Zoo, as she had just played at the night before. I wish I had seen that concert just 4 years ago. I wasn't aware of it but many famous musicians and rock stars that performed here which I've seen over the years, here in our hometown of Portland. It's a beautiful setting up in the West Hills surrounded by the huge City Park, Washington Park, that's actually the largest city park in America, of thousands of acres of wilderness.] [I later spoke to her on NPR's Talk of the Nation, on June 7th 2006 for the 40th anniversary of The Beatles Sergeant Pepper's album release, as you can look these up and review the conversations as this discussion show is on NPR every day for 2 hours, and ran a time span of over 20 years. I held the record for calling in and speaking many times to famous people. But this was the first time that I actually asked the guest, [Aimee Mann on this particular discussion,] many questions just like the host Neal Conan was doing every day for over a decade. It was a joy to speak to her after she described in the opening introduction, discovering who the Beatles were under a stage name for a new album that she thought was a new group as an eight-year-old in 1967. She had taken her brother's new Beatles album to her friend's home and they played it over and over on a turntable phonograph. It's fascinating to listen to this discussion and how she described her remembrance of this particular famous groups album as an 8-year-old. ruclips.net/video/RrWuNUkSzI4/видео.html
Aimee had the best voice in the business when she started out and she is even better now . If any singer has gotten better with age , Aimee gets my vote. Her voice is absolutely the most soothing sound I have ever heard. Timeless, incredible. She is also a brilliant song writer. Way to go Aimee . I absolutely love you !
The monkeys were ecstatic, the hippos were over the moon! I saw Aimee on her birthday in Richmond, VA some 7-9 years ago, it was a really special night, at least for us, hopefully for her, too. Love the way she uses old keyboard sounds, trons and Wurlies in the arrangements. Her songs are so smart and fresh, and she makes them real, so poignant with her delivery. The band holds back and lets the music unfold naturally. Everything feels just right. The world may be spinning out of control, but Aimee Mann gives us a little space to breathe and contemplate what is important.
This is an artist of rare sensibility and talent. Been a proud fan of hers since I watched Magnolia in 1999 - she composed one of the most touching original soundtracks of our generation for this classic film.
No one sings with as much feeling as Aimee - she really pulls me in and the band perfectly complements her. Loved the way the video focuses in on each musician and instrument. Wish they could have played the whole album, which is just as beautiful as the songs they played here.
Love how this music just instantly embraces you as if it had been missing you for a decade. Ironic sense I am posting this at the end of the first song lol.
Thank you, KEXP, so much for this! She's one of my most favorite singer-songwriters and you showcased her in an amazing way. Loved the camera work, loved the audio. Nice, nice, nice!
This, well, is an experience to behold, a magician's voice, an appeal to the better parts deep within [me]. Bravo!! Bravo!! Bellissima! Bellissimo!! Healing over time, my life endures a TBI and subsequent forms of mental Olympics as a result, gifted to me by undocumented visitors to the U.S. back in 1994, strangers, desperado thieves who happened upon me in darkness. Thank you, band. Thank you, Aimee Mann. It is helpful to have others be concerned with the well-being of those of us who have issues many presuppose are self-inflicted and take any interest beyond what is merely adequate. I am going out of my way to purchase this album as soon as I have some disposable income. Thank you to host, KEXP for recording and publishing. Cheers!! -- Jon G Becker, GR, MI.
I just stumbled on this today.....Aimee is one of the best songwriters out there....all of the albums are great.......Charmer, Lost in Space. and of course Voices Carry.....She is still so beautiful....
OMG, I wish so much that Aimee come to Brazil sometime... Her voice is so beautiful, soft and kind...I discovered her in Magnolia, and since then, I never stopped listen to her songs.
Used to love Rush "time stands still" when i was younger, with the sad passing of Neil Part and the wonder we know as the web I've found myself here, Aimee has gained another new fan.
You guys will all know more than I but I think Aimee has not yet been given her just deserts. She has been great since I was a kid , and never lost the knack of great stories with great licks. Well done Aimee
Wow. Coming back to Aimee Mann all these years later. Literally haven't heard anything since Voices Carry. Fantastic! I have a lot of catching up to do!
I've been a big fan for awhile, I have to admit. Aimee has so many classic albums: "Lost in Space", "Bachelor No.2", "I'm with Stupid" just to name a few. She's amazing live, as well.
A voice like honey. Beautiful instrumental work and singing. Just discovered her today after I did a search for who else do Neil Finn, Split Enz and Crowded House fans listen to. Now I can see why so many named her. Can't believe I had never heard of her when I see she's been writing and singing since 1985. Wow!
Sally enjoy your Aimee journey. I think she is a musician's musician. SO incredibly under-rated. The director Paul Thomas Anderson was so taken, that he developed an entire movie around her songs: "Magnolia." Well worth checking. My desert island CD is "Lost in Space." All killer no filler. Sample lyric: " And nothing fuels a good flirtation/ Like need and anger and desperation." from 'The Moth.'
Greatness in music comes in the simplest forms. Meaningful. Melodic. Harmonic. Just a voice that carry’s. And tunes that soar. Reminds me of Dylan or Mitchell.
Aimee Mann is still amazing! I think she’s just missing one thing & that’s slide guitar. Her songs are full of emotion & slide guitar would just give her that perfect sound.

I feel the same way. When I talk about Samantha Fish. A genius singer/player but no1 as ever heard of her.
Please make them watch Magnolia
It's how I got started on Aimee Mann.

she is a genius, one of the best writers, really
Aimee Mann is a national treasure.
Aimee Mann's music is timeless. I love her intelligence, voice, harmonies.. from til'tuesday onward a brilliant talent.
A consistently brilliant singer songwriter. Decades have only made her better.
I'm a 62 yr olf life-long music lover. I discovered Aimee Mann last year via Spotify. Love all her CD's! Entrancing songs and amazing musicians & production- I especially like Lost In Space.
Same age man. I've been listening to music for 50 years + and still GET goosebumps when I listen to super artists like AM
The Forgotten arm is amazing too.
Lost in Space is my favorite.
Check Time Stand Still by Rush - she sings support vocals
A rock heroine who should be in the hall of fame!!!
Her voice is ageless
I think her personality is
...and her face is *not*.
Like a goat
@@gavinvalentino6002 You win the internet! Awsome comment!!!
@@STFUandRTFM Eh. Pretty weak.
Every album she puts out is fantastic. I saw her on this tour. I was in heaven during the show.
Her latest album is gorgeous. And KEXP live shows are simply the best.

Perfectly poised but really it is here 3:48 😬
I tried but it only lets me go to yours 3:47
I nave been in love with Aimee Mann for many years. For real.
I was 24 in 1985 when Voices Carry was released.
aw
can't blame you

One of my favorite songs is “Time Stand Still” with Rush! Great song!
Yes, I too really love hearing her exquisite backing vocals on that track. They truly elevate that song, which is already incredible, being RUSH!
Honestly it seems like she shouldn’t have to work this hard for listeners/fans. She is so talented.
Greetings from Croatia. The name and surname exactly match the quality of her songs. And she looks charismatic.😊
it's what we need in music today; music that transcends
Love this performance, thank you Aimee Mann + the band!
Brilliant as always
Amazing. Who else from the 80's is worth paying attention right now? But then again, who else writes like Aimee Mann period?
Love the added violin.
I never kept up with her music after the 80's, apparently that was a mistake. Wow her voice is soothing and this was very nice songs.

This is such a beautiful performance in so many ways. It’s so good 😊 it actually hurts my heart ❤️
This woman speaks directly to my heart. always honest and so very sad. Thank you

She is the best! So many years of loving her songs. Blessed to be able to listen for so damn long!!!
The vocals in this set are unbelievable.
How is it possible not to fall in love with Aimee?
Her new album is extremely well made. The songwriting is phenomenal!!!!!
One of the most iconic voices ever !
Excellent Performance. I would listen Since she had her band called Til Tuesday. She wrought great songs and keeps doing so so.
Each and every syllable, spoken or sung, are nutrition.
Her voice is just so insanely relaxing.
this feels so good....
Used to love Rush "time stands still" when i was younger, with the sad passing of Neil Part and the wonder we know as the web I've found myself here, Aimee has gained another new fan.
I love AIMEE SOOOO MUCH

Mann is America's most beautiful profound singer/songwriter. Addictive from the first.
Wow. Coming back to Aimee Mann all these years later. Literally haven't heard anything since Voices Carry. Fantastic! I have a lot of catching up to do!
Still in love with Aimeeee!
❤
Aimee!!! Voices Carry and Save Me are just 2 of my favorite of all time. But they both remind me of pain from men… xoxo
Aimee is so great. Seen her a bunch of times. Always a good show.
I'd like to know who the hell are the 10 people who didn't like this video and WHY. Seriously.
two were the guy who never loved her and the guy stuck in the past :D
Very depressing, boring performance. Nothing like Til Tuesday, everything here seems flat and monotone.
KEXP sound guys are always on point. Amazing work...
Geez, Beautiful and amazing for all of these years!
The moment she began to spoke , All her music came to my mind!!
Aimee Mann is a Goddess.
Bronski Beat I was just thinking the same thing when I stumbled on your comment. Her voice and essence really strike a chord within me.
I've been a big fan for awhile, I have to admit. Aimee has so many classic albums: "Lost in Space", "Bachelor No.2", "I'm with Stupid" just to name a few. She's amazing live, as well.
she sure is
Very good music keep it coming
soothing voice.....love her voice
always hooked by the second line of the first stanza of mann's songs - always.
don't even need a chorus to be on board.
Acoustic or electric, Aimee's songs are gorgeous like she is.
TY Aimee for the sensational vibes, baby.

Amazing.
