Thanks for the video. My lawn mower that a friend recently gave me wouldn't stay on today when I was trying to cut the grass after filling it with gas, so I'm assuming it might need an oil change. Now because I've never been responsible for the maintenance of a lawnmower prior to now, I'm wondering if I have to drain the gas out first prior to tipping it over? I don't want to ruin anything with the gas?
Nope you don't need to drain the gas. Preferably it's good to tip the mower opposite side of the air filter if you can. Some mowers have a drain plug underneath the mower that you can use, but tipping it and draining out of the fill (like the video) shows is fine too, whichever.
drain it all into old windshield washer bottles or empty oil quart bottles and drop them off at Autozone, O'Reilly's, or Advanced Autoparts as they recycle the oil
I have one of these Troy mowers. Bought it used. my question is what is that green knob for. See it on your mower too. shows like water drops around the dial. never seen one no idea what that does. can you answer?

Do you recommend running the lawn mower until it runs out of gas before changing the oil? I've heard others say that it's important to do that. What's your take on it?
No you dont have to, that does not matter but its probably a good idea to warm up the engine before changing the oil, when you do this the oil becomes thinner and its easier to empty.

Nice show, got me a mower off Craigslist for $40 getting it ready to go .
Thank you, you made it real simple to understand.
Is automotive engine oil
5w-30 good? Full synthetic
How many hours or often does the oil get changed? What about air cleaner?
I’ve seen videos where they say the mower shouldn’t have any gas?

There is no filter? Just making sure because I've changed oil on cars and there is always a filter.
smaller motors sometimes just have a removable metal filter that stays inside. You can pull it out to check for flakes but you reinsert it back.
Thanks for the help! You’re a cool dude!
After oil chance how long it work
what do you do with the old oil? where can you take it?

What do I do with the old/bad oil?
I know that I can’t throw it in the trash can
You can bring it into a car shop. I think it is the law that they have ti take it. Unsure though

It is for cleaning the underside of the mower. You hook your hose up to it, start your mower and it washes the underside of the mower.
Dang I didn’t know you were supposed to have the blade moving when you do it. That must be why it never cleaned
Wholly Shiiit DUDE ! My strong AZZ can't tip a mower over like THAT !!! LOL ! ! ! Many herniated discs will happen because of this video :)
If used 10-30 oil you don't need to run engine to "thin" the oil. That's the point of 10-30, it thickens when hotter. Goes from 10 wt to 30 wt.
oh cool didn't know that. thanks!
Good vid thanks....my Toro does have a drain plug
Where is it?

You don’t screw the dipstick in to check the oil level.
Then how do you check the oil level my guy
