I have jumped rope for a while and I started with the basic bounce. However, after a while I just picked up the footwork tricks without too much thought. I like to think that my body just somehow switched things up after perfecting the basic bounce. So, the longer you've jumped rope on the basic bounce, the easier it may be for you to do the other tricks.

Lauren, you rock! I'm a fan of jump because of you- been watching it a little like Redbull Rampage or F1 racing though. It's not something I need or even plan to do, but dang it's great to watch. That said, this video is a little bit of a breakthrough to me, in that I can see myself actually getting proficient. You've made it seem within reach while also showing how advanced the sport is. PS even though it's probably tougher to make, longer form content is a great addition to your shorts. Cheering you on and watching in awe... (and maybe even jumping along) ;)

Start off slow, don't worry about getting 3 in a row. Get your form down first. Then do 1 hop and stop. Focus on the rope. Do 1 hop and stop. Once you feel comfortable and you can time the one hop correctly, try a second hop right after the first hop. Then get two hops down. Practice and get that down. Then move to 3 hops and etc. Make sure your mainly using your wrist to get the rope over you. Try not to use your arms as much. Don't jump high either. Just a 1 or 2 inch hop off the ground should be enough.
