The reason why I listen to audiobooks is because I can‘t stop when reading a physical book and then I let the house keeping slip and feel bad about not doing anything, but I also don‘t wanna get behind with reading and my reading goals. So like that I‘m able to do stuff other than sit down and read but still get reading done 😌 But I do agree with the fact that you miss a lot when you‘re zoomed out even for a minute!
10:41 i totally agree, not many shows pique my interest to binge watch nowadays! And replacing screen time with reading is my biggest hack to read a lot, I was also able to surpass my reading goal by a bit last yr and looks like I will again this yr 😅
Loved this video! If you can do it more often, I'm here for it! Also, to add to one of the topics. When I'm trying to motivate myself to read books on my physical TBR, I search videos on youtube of reading vlogs or reviews of people reading those books or I ask my friends to buddy read book with me. It helps to have a hype man or some accountability.
Absolutely feel you about the audiobooks. I also zone out when doing tasks and listening to things in the backround at the same time so its difficult to follow the plot 😅
Yes please to monthly! My mind is blank on book topics but if I think of one I will recomment 😂 love your content. I feel similar to you because I used to watch you for your fitness content back in the day but, like you, now I kinda just exercise however I feel like it (still enjoy if of course) and have been developing my hobbies more like reading/crafts. Life is so short and I love that you make content on what excites you 🥰
I only tried audiobooks a few years ago. Then two years ago, I got a library ecard that allowed me to borrow audiobooks as well as ebooks, so that made it easier to try them. Most of my audiobook reads have been nonfiction, which I find easier to get through on audio as I can listen while driving, doing chores, or going for a walk. And if you zone out a little, you haven't missed a plot point. Novels I have LOVED in audiobook form were Daisy Jones and the Six (this was multi-casted, and the cast was fabulous; it really felt like you were listening to these former rock stars spilling the drama) and The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo, which is a novel in verse so the performance sounds like slam poetry but tells a story.
Definitely feel similarly on audiobooks. I think my worst habit with them is that I tend to mainly seek out the audio version if I’m having a hard time getting interested in the book. Not disliking it to the point that I want to DNF it, but just want to hurry and finish it so I can get into something else. So when I’m listening to something that I’m already not loving, it makes it harder to focus and enjoy the audiobook since I already kinda tend to zone out if I’m listening to fiction. I do like listening to nonfiction though, maybe because in the ones I’ve listened to, the author is the one narrating it so it kinda makes me feel even more connected to them since I’m not only reading their life story, I’m listening to them tell it too. And there have been a couple fiction audiobooks I did enjoy, like fairly recently I had my hold come up for 11/22/63, but it was the day before I was hanging out with my bestie (who I lovingly refer to as my book dealer because she always loans me awesome books to read when she’s finished them) and when I have books of hers I try to prioritize reading those so I don’t keep her books forever and just didn’t have the time to commit to a book that long , so decided to try the audiobook instead since it was available through Spotify. I loved it, didn’t zone out a single time and actually feel like I soaked up enough to talk to someone about the book and make sense, contrasting to others where I feel like I didn’t absorb anything. But I’m not judgy about audiobooks either, people are busy and just sometimes don’t have time to read a physical book, but they may have a longish commute and can listen to a couple chapters of an audiobook a day on their way to/from work. I’d definitely rather they do that than miss out on these awesome stories because they didn’t have the time (or desire) to devote to reading a physical book. Also same on physical books vs ebooks, I love both and hop between the two pretty frequently. Also go through phases like you said where sometimes I just want to read an ebook (considering getting a Kindle at some point, I usually just use the Kindle app on my iPad, but love how much more compact the Kindle seems to be) and then other times I just want the feel of a physical book in my hands. My vision isn’t great though, so I think my favorite thing about ebooks is that I can do things like increase the font size, do white letters on a black background, etc to make it more comfortable to read, especially for longer periods of time. Loved this chat! ❤
@@HiTechRedneck omg love this! so interesting about the non-fiction audiobooks being on adore to focus on sometimes. Definitely recommend a kindle if you’re into ebooks! The screens are also much better for your eyes, a lot less strain than when reading on an iPad or phone! Glad you enjoyed the video ❤️
This was such an interesting video- I loved it! Definitely a kindle person over here just because of the ease and greater affordability….plus I have all of my comfort books on hand if I need them :)) I really recommend the Bear and the Nightingale for you to try, or the Nevernight series ;)
I love watching your videos so much! I don't really have much of a social life either and don't have any friends to talk about books with so I really appreciate your videos. I feel like we would be good friends ☺
I wish I was into audiobooks because I would finish books so much faster but just like you I have trouble focusing on them 😅 I love to listen to true crime podcasts as well, i especially love Rotten Mango (aka Stephanie Soo’s podcast)!
Ahh im so sad I didnt get to ask this on your instagram but I really wanted you to talk about the The Empyrean series 🥹 I just finished Iron Flame & then watch your reading vlog about it and all you said was you’ll explain your thoughts more on your Wrap Up but you didnttt 😭☺️
As someone who is saving up to publish her first book ever, I have a question from an author to be prospective. Would you review books to help new authors get their name out there?
That’s SO exciting, that’s such an achievement, congrats! So I don’t think I would let’s say do a “sponsored” book review if that makes sense. I’m always happy to receive ARCs and copies of books from authors/publishers, but due to my schedule - I can’t always guarantee when I’d read the book. Happy to leave a review and include it in my wrap ups when the time comes, but it would have to be an honest review. I hope that makes sense!
@@jaimefok that totally makes sense. And yes, I would want an honest review. I'll definitely keep you in mind when I publish, as I would love the publicity when you get around to it. Now to just get enough money for everything involved.
Audiobooks are amazing for my knitting life. Also, I read much faster than I listen, so I disagree with some takes that audiobooks give an extra leg up on the yearly book count. But that might be my brain that cannot understand anything read over 1.35 speed hahaha
I recently started to listen to audiobooks. I do just sit and listen to them as opposed to reading them while doing chores, exercising, or other activities. So far, Fable appears really good for book clubs. It permits chapter by chapter commenting. It does provide the ability to record your reading progress. It lets people import their Goodreads books. It doesn't provide this ability for StoryGraph users. I like this type of video and would like to see more if you are able to record and edit the videos.
