  • In this episode from Driving With Gloves Cor is driving the so called Knudsen Taunus from 1972. It was a very popular car in Europe. And in the British form called Cortina it was even Britain's best selling car from 1972.
Many thanks to Auto Vogel & Partner AG for lending this piece of European car history.

I have owned a 1974 Mk.3. Ford Cortina 44 years, (bought it back in 1976 with only 250 miles on the clock from new!) it was an Ex-Ford Motor Company promotional car,(the ONLY surviving promo car) and I am restoring her on my channel, so I very much enjoyed your video, of this lovely Taunus Coupe version, as the condition of the car looks beautiful, In total I own 3x Mk,3,s, the other two are a 1974 2000E, owned 24 years, and recently bought 1975 Cortina L, so as you can tell I LOVE these cars.. and like you remember them brand new on the roads when I was a child, nice shots of the car in nice locations in your video, and well presented so gets a like from me!.

Lived in Germany and always preferred the 2l v6 (not available on the Cortina) over the pinto 4 cylinder. The pinto had about 12bhp more than the Cologne lump but was less refined. And that one you are driving sounds as though the cam is on its way out.

Nice to see that some of these good looking coupés have survived

Yes this one is in very good nick. Although during filming the engine did not run very smooth. But that problem is solved now.

Very good presentation, Cor, well done! The Swiss landscape and Lucern are amazing 👍.
As for the overall design of this car, well, you have to look at it from the right angle : it was a period when European sport coupés models from Ford or Opel simply looked like the poor cousin of the American ones.

Thank you very much Bogdan. Although I agree with you that the American cousin Ford Mustang Fastback, I mean the 1967 model, is simply beautiful, I think that this GXL Fastback is also nice to look at. And since I have driven a Ford Mustang from 1966, this Taunus is way better to drive, but it is missing the V8 sound from the Mustang. And also the Opel fastbacks from that time I adore. The Manta, Rekord Sprint, Commodore GS and the GT. But I like also the Corvette C3 Stingray between 1968 and 1972. But I have not driven the Corvette C3 Chrome jet, so I can't judge the ride.

    Hi Cor,

i just don´t understand i had both the cortina and the taunus they had diferent body´s ,here they call the taunus a cortina mkIII, strange ,the cortina had more round shapes in the body and the the taunus had more rect angles in the body almost no curves both are the GXL , the taunus was the model above the cortina than the granada

This is a Taunus, not a Cortina . The Cortina, was the UK version of the german Taunus , but never made in coupe .

You are completely right about that. They did not have the time to repair it, since I made the appointment for filming and the problem occured just before I arrived. But overal a vety nice car to drive, if you do not expect it to be a sports car
