It makes sense. The ability to see through walls + the ability to fly = the ability to fly through walls. The answer was right in front of us the whole time.
Not really barely, literally all of that execution is still completely unmatchable by human players, it’s pretty much just as witchcrafty as the glitchy stuff, which makes this TAS even more impressive
@@DeadlyOre I watched this for the first time after watching Oats for years. There were several things I recognized that are still being done in speed running, just much better executed. Even the BT skip is technically possible by a human. All similarities between this and actual speed running fell apart after the first xray sideways wall clip. The games graphics were pretty well shot at that point as well.

Ya know.. im starting to think we shouldn't let samus accept bounties anymore, the planets keep ending up a jumbled mess of parts that keep teleporting around and defying the laws of physics everytime she leaves
Gotta love how the graphics half of the game engine just completely gives up right around 23:00. My guess for what happens: - The xray scope takes a copy of important rendering state when it activates - The TAS uses some kind of speedboost-related dark magic to move while the xray is active - Rendering state updates apply to the active rendering engine, not the xray scope backup - The xray scope restores old state when deactivated, completely cooking the graphics system.
that was a x-mode superjump, which sends samus flying upward at insane speed, such that she can pass through solid blocks. graphical glitches often occur at such high speed, which can also be seen in casual play (to a much lesser extent) with a moonfall, such as in the climb room. as to what broke the horizontal positions of the plms (items, doorcaps), i don't know for sure but it may have to do with how samus entered the door to kassiuz room (pre-plasma room)
I thought this was fine at first and now im so confused. I thought I'd done everything you could do, reset beam glitch, 100% everything... and then you started falling at light speed and eviscerating shit and i don't even know what im seeing. Samus's beam got so powerful it started warping time and space appearantly.

It makes me wonder how incredibly short the run would be if all door transitions and item get cutscenes were removed, or just speed up to be instantaneous
Super Metroid is intriguing me more and more and I know that game already since about 25 years! I wonder, if there are even more undiscovered tricks in this game.
I honestly would love to see a TAS of the current PRKD route to see what the time could be dropped down to. Of course try and get Phantoon to go fast fast lol.
I hate how technical this game is, because people who don’t know much about it don’t appreciate just how insane TAS’s of it are; even stuff outside of the X-mode shenanigans that are so obvious, it’s all equally as crazy and pretty much none of these rooms are humanly matchable
They're difficult in their own ways. A TAS is all about figuring the theoretical fastest route using anything available in the game, even if it's humanly impossible. This requires some crazy knowledge of the game, and once you get to actually making the TAS itself, you'll most likely be playing frame by frame for maximum precision, meaning that even a single room can take forever to get perfectly, as human error is still very much a factor when registering the inputs for the run. Beating the WR for the game is all in the actual execution, as the whole route is already laid out for anyone to follow. This execution is by no means easy, but the knowledge factor is massively downplayed here.
In normal gameplay, this game has basically perfect physics (outside a handful of weird areas like Phantoon's ship)... it took something like 15 years (maybe longer?) for people to discover the X-ray glitches and even longer to discover the fast fall strategies that let Samus avoid collision detection. And even then, some of these strategies are not humanly possible.
En mi p3rr4 vida había visto que rompieran un juego a tal punto como esto. Había visto otro similar dónde solo ocupan el x-ray vision y así pero esto es otro nivel
Is there an epic TAS version of Super Metroid? By epic I mean Samus' cinematic moments and movements as she braves the environments and overcomes obstacles like a boss. This TAS would be very nice!
I think you can "store" the moonfall speed if you're pixel and frame perfect. I could be wrong, but I think that's what they were doing, and how they were able to build up so much speed so quickly. That speed was enough to ignore the tile at the bottom and go straight though.
The TAS utilises a trick called the "Moonfall". Which is performed by Moonwalking towards the edge of a platform while aiming diagonally, and then releasing the aim button right before jumping off the edge. The result is that when Samus starts falling, she has no cap on her falling speed. The TAS cleverly abuses this by keeping Samus airborne at the edge of the platform for long enough to build up enough speed to straight up pass straight through the floor at the bottom. The easiest tile to pass through by moonfalling is at the old Mother Brain escape room at the beginning. Simply perform a Moonfall at the right side of the room from the top, and you'll notice that you'll pass straight through one of the platforms.
