Very awesome truck! My dad was a owner operator from ‘1970 to 2015. He just died this past July 1st. He was a truckin son of a gun.! He drove milllions of miles, all over the lower 48 states. His first brand new truck was a ‘78 K100, double bunk, it was bronze, had the Cummins big cam 400, 13 speed. I was twelve, I loved that truck, in the summers I would always go with him for a couple weeks, went from Iowa to Chicago, from there to LA, and back to Iowa a couple times, great memories with a true super trucker, RIP dad!
I just love the old cabover trucks.they weren't the easiest thing to work on and they didn't ride all that great but they sure were cool. I like the bull horns inside cool

You can't beat the looks of a pre -1985 double bunk K100, especially if you put a Salem or a Lexington paint scheme on it! You have a nice truck there!
Love it!! My neighbor had one with the angled windows on the top of the sleeper. Blue, silver and gold paint. I would stand on the sidewalk at about 6 or 7 years old just staring at the truck as he washed it looking over every square inch of it loving it more and more with every new detail that I discovered.
My favorite K100. I prefer the Sleeper windows. But flat roof is cool. Nice old ones with A/C on top. K100s are awesome. Your one lucky guy to have it. Wish I had the money to find one and restore it, drive it around
Thanks for showing this, my grandfather have one just like this little green white, I started driving that when I was 13.. I moved out of that at 19 and I got my first conventional, GOOD TIMES!!
Thank you for the tour mr. Randall. I had the money and you were so inclined we might be able to make a deal. She's a beauty to be certain. Thanks for all you (and any other truckers reading this) have done for America!
WOw ,Great KW drove an older one , had everything and Armstrong steering , backing into tight places was a job. Drove Internationals , even the old long nose Brockways 2 cycles. Noisy yes about deaf now. Miss the road an 83 year old trucker. God Bless . Keep'em rolling. Ol Bear
G Crauwels....."Those 3406 Cats made for an excellent marine engine as well."..... while that is true, back in that era (from the 1940s and increasingly to the late 1990s)... the 150 to 2500hp diesel marine market in light and medium class fishing, work/crew boats and pleasure craft was absolutely dominated... by the 2 cycle Detroits with a whopping 82.4% of the Global market.... Cat, Cummins, Volvo, John Deere, .etc, etc, etc... shared the remaining 17.6% of the market.
I had a 88 k100 big cam 400 Cummins. 4.6 miles to the gallon. But brother it would hunt the other end of the road. Wish I still had it. Fuel was just 99.9 back then.
Gosh I remember the first time driving to California in an Aerodyne Kenworth with an 8V92 Detroit, twin turbos and that KW air ride we thought we were in paradise.
Your a lucky guy by the time I turn 21 shoot by the time I'm old enough to buy my own rig trucking will probably be heading down hill for the worse . Still a beautiful truck hated cabovers as a kid but love them now
Honestly- listen to these guys. 22, just sold my W900. Too many hoops to jump threw- and I hauled cattle, exempt from elogs. If you’re gonna do it have your fun with it but after about 6 months you’ll think, man, what the hell was I thinking. Chase them dreams but have a backup plan because if you end up not liking it, you’ll hate yourself for not. Lots of time to thinking while truckin! Be safe and smart regardless!
Really nice truck, with a little time and work it could be a real eye catcher. Polish out the tanks , fix the windshield and maybe put some 8 or 10 inch stacks on it. Looks good, I love the cabovers, Kenworths and Peterbilt always were the best looking!
I rode with my dad in his Pete 352 cabover (and others) back before deregulation. I also drove a cabover Binder for Schneider to get "verifiable miles" in the mid 90s. Dad, as an owner operator, wasn't too happy about me going to Schneider but we worked it out. Cabovers are cool for sure but I wouldn't want to drive one every day again. These days, I have the "privilege" of driving my friends K100 on weekends during harvest season. It's either a 78 or 79, 8v92ta Detroit, 15 speed and Rockwell rears (4.11 ratio) pulling a 42' hopper. I love driving it for a few weekends each year, but I'd NEVER trade my Classic, or any conventional tractor, for it to drive the rest of the year.
Also the price point was way different even when these trucks where new vs today prices on trucks plust the fact you have to deal with def elogs and the other fact of gliders kits are starting to get regulated.
Oh yeah i love those flappers..a lot of guys mount them wrong when its going down the road the part that opens it up should face towards each other so that when the cap opens it will slice into the wind and open fully instead of barely opening at all
Hi Michael Ashcraft ~ Lott Motor Lines, I bet that was a great Company in it's day, the Epitome of Road Transportation of the 1970's and 1980's ~ Great days gone by, never to be repeated in the United States of America !!! I live back in New Zealand now but was lucky enough to experience those days of OTR in America in the 1980's in a Kenworth W900 with 12V 71 Detroit Diesel Engine travelling Interstate 5 Portland, Oregon to Los Angeles and return, hauled Lumber/sawn timber down to LA and Building Supplies back up to Portland.
great old machine. Sounds like a valve job wouldn't hurt but man i just get this FEELING when i hear those old engines start. I have an old Paystar '81, that i fixed up . Check it out on my channel.
My buddy had a K100 double sleeper like that. He was an owner operator with Allied Van Lines. He had jacked up the cab, but not far enough to lock it in place. He crawled underneath and accidentally on a hydraulic line and cracked the fitting and the cab came down and killed him. His father found him. It was sad.
Gives me oak in my undies to hear a 3406-3408-detroit 60 series fire up..the sound when that starter kicks over is irreplaceable...not like these eco friendly bean fart sick plastic smelling white smoke making new engines
Very nice rig! When I saw that leak on the top of the fuel tank I was almost positive you were going to crank up an 8v71 Detroit, lol. But that Cat engine is definitely a great workhorse.
Absolutely gorgeous. She is well kept for a working truck with some minor wear that gives her a certain character....Jealous as. 3:05 was a nice touch with your G.V.W. rating.
I'm not quite sure what the fascination is with Cabovers these days.. Back in the late 80s I drove two different cabovers a Binder and a Shaker I hated those SOB's back then.. But now I wish I had both of them.. Someday I'll get another Cabover to keep/give to my Grandson..

Cool old Kdub, love to see old iron still in use like this.
Dad Gum.. that is a nice ride.. I do miss a COE .. especially KW, And the Binders
Nice condition. Always like look of cab over design, so popular in 60s & 70s, they were everywhere. Great front end viability. Nice video 👍
Beautiful old kdub, my pap used to have one of these in his company. I was a kid then, but I was so excited to ride in a BJ And the bear truck
I'd love to ride the Movin' On truck.
Nice truck brother, in great shape too. I have an 84’ 9670 and it will be road worthy my next fall.
Gosh I remember the first time driving to California in an Aerodyne Kenworth with an 8V92 Detroit, twin turbos and that KW air ride we thought we were in paradise.

Trucking going automated is a longggg way off my friend. Chin up and go hammer down.
Already has run down quite awhile.32yrs of driving myself it's not worth trying to make a living.

With a really rough ride, little sound insulation, and piss-poor air conditioning!

I just like that body style one of my favorites and it runs and sounds smooth

Gave me flashbacks of getting dressed while on my back in a White/GMC, Eastern Inter Trans Service 1992 Columbus, GA.
