I got to ride on the Rocky Mountaineer from Seattle to Vancouver this summer, along the route shown in this video. The way their treat their passengers is really great. It's a full-service, pampered experience inside those coaches. I enjoyed the trip so much that I'll be doing a much longer trip on the Rocky Mountaineer next summer.
Amtrak could borrow a train set from Canada rocky mountaineer and via rail for the busiest traveling times of the year which are Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas, new year's, memorial day weekend, 4th of July weekend, and labor day weekend and also for the weekend when they have comic con and the delicious mar racing series in San Diego too.
I wonder if they’ll be upgrading their current locomotive fleet to have PTC while they use the dash 8. Or buy some ex-Amtrak P-40’s since they have a bunch just sitting in storage.
The 503 and 506 ran in Canada from Pacific Central to the border. They've since been returned to Amtrak. The trains were crewed by Amtrak solely because of RM crews not being qualified on BNSF track south from New Westminster.
@@westernwashingtonrailprodu6339 Interesting. Thanks for the reply. So have RM trains always been crewed by Amtrak in that part of BNSF territory (even before PTC)?
Certain locomotives such as union Pacific 4014 have been grandfathered for having positive train control software being installed in the locomotive controlled.
Hey Mike, have you seen any cowl units on Canadian National? I've seen one before at the Bryan Ohio Amtrak station before I went to Chicago. My train was late at the time.
I know a lot of people like the Rocky Mountaineer color scheme, but I’m not a fan. Especially after seeing the two side by side, I prefer the Amtrak phase V scheme
What kind of outdated junk heap is that on the front of the train? Oh yes, it is a Dash 8, just another old piece of garbage that Amtrak STILL puts money & work into. What kind of foolish man is running that railroad to want THAT locomotive? Well, thankfully, it will not be long now. As soon as Amtrak has every bug worked out with their SC-44 Charger locomotives, goodbye go the junk heaps! I cannot wait for the day that all of those Dash 8s are hauled to National Railway Equipment in Silvis, Illinois. Once there, the Amtrak lettering will be painted over, & some nice NREX markings will be added somewhere else! The locomotives will then sit, awaiting their fate. NREX usually sells or leases locomotives, & hopefully, in the case of these junk heaps, neither will happen! Once NREX declares the junk heaps surplus, off to scrap they go! All will be moved over to the scrapping tracks. Work will begin with the removal of all useful external parts. Once that is finished, off comes the different sections of the hood! Hopefully to be scrapped afterwards! Then, the cab comes off. Afterwards, the fun really begins! Out go the prime mover & other mechanical parts, hopefully for scrap! Then we are down to the frame. It will be great fun to watch it be separated into different pieces, rendering it unusable! Then, only things left are the trucks. Goodbye to the axles, & the wheels will see new life under a different locomotive! Once the process is completed, off goes the junk heap! This time, to the foundry, to make something useful! A very, very interesting & exciting process!
Or the Dash 8s can be sold to museums, tourist railroads, or continue working for other railroads. Sure they may be 20 years or older but if they are looked after well they can last longer.
@@brucetharpe762 Those museums & tourist railroads would be much better off purchasing a sleek, new & modern locomotive in order to show the public a taste of today & tomorrow! To the scrap heap with all of the junk heaps!
@@scout4435 new and modern locomotives are usually ugly and the whole point of as museum is to use old locomotives. I wouldnt even go to a museum that had modern locomotives

Amazing video, CoasterFan2105. I do like the Amtrak's Dash 8 locomotives. And yeah 503 does appear in Canada pulling the Rocky Mountaineer.
The Amtrak dash 8s have been all over the place this year! I saw 500 on the Missouri River Runner (while it was cancelled and stuck in Kansas city)

Nice catches! I've always found the America to Canada railways interesting.
Amazing footage! Thank You!
Oooo imagine if Amtrak borrowed their cars as private or for passenger cars
coolleo149 Smith County, Texas Amtrak don’t deserve it
Nigel Green oh nvm then
Imagine Amtrak caring enough about their long distance trains to brand them with their own paint jobs. It would be fire.

Nice video! This means the Dash 8 would be run in Canada as well? Do you know whether it was crewed by Amtrak or Rocky Mountaineer?

@@embeddedt Correct. The Coastal Passage trains used Amtrak Engineers and Conductors, while still retaining Rocky Mountaineer passenger service staff.
