🎙️ In June 2024 my current coaching role at the Notts Gymnastics Academy is coming to an end. I've now been coaching gymnastics for three years and I'm in process of working towards my level 3 qualification. The opportunity to work alongside Josh Champion, who I consider to be my coaching mentor has been invaluable during that time. I have made mistakes, learnt some incredible life lessons and experienced real joy in my young coaching journey so far. I hope to continue learning and developing as a coach moving forward. And this is my story 📚

For me , the highest point of the podcast is when Sam really digs into the mental side of gymnastics. For me, it just resonates so much both inside and outside of the gym. Hearing Sam journey through mental health and OCPD really gave me more empathy towards myself, something I really struggle with. I love the podcast and sometimes I think me and Sam were brothers in a different life... doing gymnastics of course 😁
Thank you for making the podcast and please continue to change lifes with it.
    Cheers,
    Nuno

I've been a fan of Sam's for many years, both with his gymnastics and podcasts/RUclips videos. His gymnastics career speaks for itself and his podcasts/RUclipss amongst a wide variety of guests and subject matter, Sam has always portrayed an intelligent and well thought commentary on the discussion at hand. My main takeaway from Sam is his sense of determination and his strength of spirit when facing adversity.
In late 2017 I became very ill, was confined to hospital/home for an extended period of time and was not expected to survive. To this day (ta-daaa, I'm still here) I consider Sam as being a significant part of the reason I am alive. Through his RUclips contributions at the time - including interaction via comments and chat - he somehow shared that strength of spirit and determination with me. During my physiotherapy I quite literally heard Sam's voice in my head whenever my physio was encouraging me to push my limits and boundaries.
I especially love his gymnastics stories and insights into the life of a high-level athlete - but his stories of family and friends also carry a cozy sense of comeraderie and love.
It is always a pleasure to listen to you work, Sam - keep being strong for you and your family - and keep being amazing for the rest of us.
You truly do make a difference with what you do.

Hey Sam, as a new coach myself there's so much I can relate to in this episode. Like most new coaches I often ask for advice from the experienced coaches at the gym and this episode has helped make that advice click and make a lot more sense. I've used visualisation a lot with my younger group but your explanation of which hand and foot move in a cartwheel and relating it back to holding the paper while writing is brilliant and something I'll definitely be using. I think supported somersaults is one of the scariest coaching skills I'm doing at the moment, and a few days after listening to this episode I was supporting a somersault and dropped someone. Like you was told not to tell them it's my fault and I can see why as they have to build confidence in you. But I thought about what you said about being honest and that you will make mistakes and building trust that way and I guess it's worked because the whole group has been confident to let me support their skills and this means I can carry on working with them and I can keep practicing! Cheers for the great content!
