When the "last" Cadillac convertible appeared in 1976, there was a red, white and blue Bicentennial model, offered at a mind-blowing price. An uncle of mine bought TWO of them, so he'd never be without a Caddy drop-top! He only lived 12 years after that, and hadn't used up the first car. Don't know what became of that one, but his daughter is still driving the second.

Only 200 of the Bicentennial edition Eldos were built, and, if memory is correct, buyers paid up to double the MSRP ( over $11,000 plus $85 for the " last convertible " trim automotivemileposts.com/eldorado/eldo1976lastconvertible.html ) Did your uncle join the class action suit against GM for returning to the convertible market in '84??

@@carshowreporter That's a very good question. I'll have to see if Cousin Patti knows! Charlie had been a Cadillac loyalist since 1957. But that ended when he went to trade in his 1973 Fleetwood Brougham and saw the downsized models for '77. He went straight to the Lincoln dealer and never looked back. His last Lincoln was a 1987 Town Car. Aunt Becky gave that one to her son in 1992, and bought a new Olds, which she sold to me in 1999! Thanks for the link to the article. Hadn't seen that one before.

A second cousin had lost faith in Cadillac and had asked me for advise. They also switched to Lincoln. It seems like GM was trying hard to go bankrupt!!!!

@@carshowreporter Isn't that the truth?! I've forgotten who said it, but someone wrote (perhaps he was an Old Testament prophet) that GM was so large and buttoned down that it could be mismanaged for 20 years before anyone would know. And that's precisely how it happened. Roger Smith was the ultimate heir of Alfred P. Sloan.

From the video that appears to be a nice car, not perfect, but real nice. I always liked those cars. Surprised it didn't sell; but I am not sure of the market price on those right now. thanks.

This was a very, nice, survivor, so minor flaws from the factory and the few miles are acceptable. The final bid is in the range of what a car like this has been selling for ( $35,000 range ). Remember the crazy prices " investors " paid for one of the 14,000 " last American convertibles " paid? They are finally getting a return on their LONG term investment! As for American convertibles in 1976... Jeep and Excalibur were roadsters ( no roll up side windows ), plus Zimmer, Clenet, Panther Lima.....

Beautiful surviver car, but I do not care for the twenty shades of gray color scheme.

Don't be so uncouth, Daniel. You do not care for the twenty shades of Georgian Silver Metallic with Antique Light Smoke Gray scheme 😆🤗
