Thanks for sharing. *Emotional, educational, and medical neglect are serious issues!* When I was 9 and my brother was 7 our mother told me to try and find him at the end of the school day so we could walk home together. One day I went to his classroom right before the bell and told his teacher my name. I said, "I'm here for my brother." She had been putting a safety pin through a piece of paper to pin to his shirt, but when she saw me she said, "Here. Give this note to your mother. I think he needs glasses... As we walked out together across the playground I asked my brother if he thought he needed glasses. He said he was sitting at the back of the classroom and couldn't see the board until his teacher moved him toward the middle. We got home, I gave our mother the note and she just rolled her eyes... (Back then we would be sent home and not allowed back until we had proof of vaccinations, but glasses and dental care were not treated the same. She knew she would not be forced to do anything, so she didn't.)
