I grew up in Villa Heights and usually on the Villa Heights/Morningside route were 303, 310, 311 and 312. These busses came to Roanoke in 1947. I think 303 is at the museum outside lot and survived the fire but is not operational. In 1958 old look 106 was added to the route replacing 310 Mack. The Mack's were retired in 1964, 65 and 66. I think 106 was retired in 1975. 106 and 102 were part of a 10 bus order. 1947 was the largest new bus year for Roanoke when Safety Motor Transit Company took delivery of 53 busses. 33 ACF-Brill C-36 busses numbered 201-233 and 20 C-41 Mack's numbered 301-320.

Let's hope the Mack survived and at one time there was the shell of a Safety motor transit ACF Brill at the garage (It was one of several that you might have seen on the American Pickers show History Ch.) I lived on the Belmont Hill Route and so I'm fond of the Brills. Don't get back anymore I've been in New England since '72.Go on flickr .com and search Safety Motor Transit.
