A day isn't enough. We need a full month. We need survivors sharing their stories, visiting schools, school trips to these residential schools with the history of abuse and trips to catholic churches and nunneries and wherever else this kind of abuse started and took place. We need to cut the cord between the catholic church and the government. We need to hold the church accountable and have the pope as well as each individual catholic nun and priest apologize to the victims. We need to empower the victims and disempower the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
If I'm not mistaken they refuse to address the matter, at least from what I've read on the news. My grandma wrote to them about Residential school a few times throughout the years and they never even returned a single reply.

This is so sad 😞 kids as young as 3. I heard of a story where a brother and sister were fishing and they were taken to this school. heads shaved, raped beaten and murdered. If they talked their language there was consequences 🥲 these kids don’t have a voice they were murdered and tortured taken away from their families. Probably many more children! As a Korean Canadian, when I was young in Korea, I learned how Japan had colonized Korea for 36 years, which ended when World War 2nd finished. At that time, Japan forced Korean children to learn and speak Japanese only at school, and even they forced to change their names into Japanese. But Japan still do not teach the truth as history in their schools and even not admit their crimes like making the colonized women sexual slaves during World War 2. The investigation has hardly started, so the time period has not yet been determined. No "cause of death" has been disclosed or yet known. The Catholic church has not opened records or even disclosed whether records exist. 51 of the 215 were recorded, so 164 remain unknown and suspicious.

It may be that there was pressure to hide the real numbers from the state (which might have shut them down) or from the higher ups in the Catholic Church. As I know little about this situation, is it an assumption the children did not die naturally? How long have they been buried? It's reported as though they were recently murdered or something equally tragic. Please forgive my ignorance, it's next to impossible to get actual truthful news.
With mass graves like this it’s typical a result of some disease that spread through, and seeing the time frame this place operated its most likely the cause, though of course malnourishment and other conditions can play roles too

The amount of children that were taken to these schools is heartbreaking. I'm sure a lot of the children who passed away probably weren't even buried. Many of them won't be accounted for if they were cremated. Or is there a way they can determine if they used a section of the grounds for cremation? To think that the catholic church had more than a major roll in the death of so many innocent children, yet alone canada is beyond words. The colonizers came, they made promises, lied, took our children, our land, culture, and our voice. Yet Canada stands proud. They're not just learning about this. They put up a front as though the country is in shock but in the end we all know someone had to give the orders. Our voices will be heard and Canada will reap what you sow

did these deaths occur over a period of time, say, 80 years? will autopsies be performed, to determine cause of death - example, disease, such as tb, pandemic of 1918; or, was it murder? is the catholic church cooperating, with all records related to these deaths? were death certificates issued at the time, with cause of death, names, dates, etc.?
The investigation has hardly started, so the time period has not yet been determined. No "cause of death" has been disclosed or yet known. The Catholic church has not opened records or even disclosed whether records exist. 51 of the 215 were recorded, so 164 remain unknown and suspicious.
I'm sure we will never know in some cases. I suspect a few were murders ?

So all this was pretty much well known, still nothing said about cause of death. Child mortality was high in those times - lots of diseases and children with weak immune systems. But when somebody says "atrocity" the word has implications that are not substantiated. "Abuse".. I believe, because it is a rather obvious case of forced re-education.

It may be that there was pressure to hide the real numbers from the state (which might have shut them down) or from the higher ups in the Catholic Church. Even today, we see alleged attempts in many countries to hide the real number of COVID victims as people's careers are in jeopardy over their handling of the pandemic.
