This video was very informative. I looked into the local university's RTB certification programs, and I needed to get a good overview of ABA and RTB. I have provided language educational services to many students with Autism and other learning disabilities. I also have worked in a Montessori school where more and more students with learning disabilities and Autism enrolled. I saw OT, PT, ABA, and RTB therapists working with children. In order to provide better educational services, I want to take the RTB certification program. Thank you for providing insightful information.
This was great! I'm soooo excited to begin this journey. I had to leave behind my last job ( Adult Day Program) with developmental disabilities of (4 years.) we are a Military Family and we had to move..... my ex boss just became a BCBA -D and was going to be my guidance but I had to leave 😔

Years ago, I went through a three semester program as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician in California. In the four or five states that license psychiatric technicians, it's considered a nursing degree, similar to the LPN/LVN. (I have a doctorate now and am retired so I'm not interested in this certification personally.) We had quite a lot of developmental disabilities and behavior modification instruction. It looks like some of the RBTs might be allowed to administer medications. I'm curious as to the amount of overlap between LPTs and RBTs. Can one become registered as an RBT if one is an LPT? Can one get course credit for LPT courses in an RBT program? Thanks for any information you can give me!
Some psychiatric technicians can be good candidates to become registered behavior technicians, but since most ABA services are focused on early intervention, experience working with children, particularly children with challenging behaviors, is a really good pre-requisite.
Having said that, if you have the desire, anyone can become an RBT with proper training.
RBTs are NOT allowed to administer medication.
