- Ever had a battery charger that wont charge a completely dead battery? In this video Darren Young showed me his hack for a battery charger that only will charge a battery that is 80% charged. THIS WORKS BUT DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!! MAKE SURE THE CHARGER IS UNPLUGGED BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS!
Thank you gentlemen. Awesome hack!! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for your video. Have you guys found a good source for a replacement amp meter? The one in my charger doesn't work, so I've been verifying with a multimeter each time I use it.
This guy is 100% correct. I just tried to use that exact Communist Chinese Schumacher (Walmart?) battery charger to get a 1987 P30 GM class A 800 amp chassis battery that has sat for 3 months started. The charging light on the charger wouldn't even come on; it was absolutely useless. I did manage to get it started after jumping with our Suburban for about 1.5 hours. My old Michigan made Rizk or my Minneapolis made Model 12620 Electric Service Systems charger always work, regardless of state of charge.
Thanks for sharing a great video
Smart! This is what I’ll do. My battery is dead and won’t charge at all
It's shutting off if it starts drawing more than a certain number of amps....a dead battery probably pulls enough to shorten the battery chargers life drastically and I would assume that when they tested it to failure they found out it could be a fire hazard....ive noticed a big difference between the old chargers that look like these and the new ones...some are using rectification on the charging output which I think is horrible idea...rectify it to DC then into a transformer to drop voltage raise current capacity then add the few features you want and send the power from your beefy transformer to charge the battery...trying to rectify that much current and the hard spikes and everything coming back into the charger from dead or crappy batteries or the gorilla in control touching the cables together cause sparks show that it's plugged in and working is hard on the small cheap parts...
Good point! I definitely believe the breaker was added for safety but if the battery is dead the only alternative is to connect a good battery and charge both at the same time. They should just build them strong enough to charge weak batteries.
That's so cool!!
I just tried it, still didn’t work to charge my dead battery. Tried it on my wife’s good battery and it worked. So., it still seems it needs 80 percent charge which is dumb. I need my dead battery charged!
why not put a overide switch on it.
That is a great idea!
Bubbas just don't buy automatic battery charger.. go old school with manual charger.. Get it Got it Good Luck
Can you successfully say “jump function?”😂
I did.
One reason that charger wont turn on at real low voltage is, you would not want to connect your 12VDC charger to a 6VDC battery and have it turn on and destroy the 6VDC battery.
It was made for stupid people...LOL
Good thought!
That's a stupid way. Of thinking you should not do that. There's a reason why the battery charger is designed the way it is.
You are absolutely correct!
