I saw a black man talking about books and I clicked subscribe. It’s that simple fren
Yaaaas honey! Exactly
😂 Me too!
Exactly!!
Literally same!
Girl, same 🙌🏾😂
Recently my feed has been blowing up with new black booktubers and I’m living for it!!
Ahhh, welcome to BookTube!! It's so so exciting to see more Black people on here and you sound like such an awesome person with warm energy! I've subbed, and as someone who's been doing this for a while, it's great to see you here!
Hi Joel! thank you for your kind comment, and for stopping by. Appreciate it 🙂
Who cares what anyone's skin tone is?!
@@Yesica1993 Shut up :)
@@Yesica1993If you are not black do not speak on it.
@@Yesica1993because it’s nice to have people who look like you (and maybe see the world the same way that you do) sharing the spaces that you also enjoy.
As a black man, it's so nice to see more black people getting into booktube, makes me wanna create my own channel someday haha. Welcome bro! I'll check your videos out.
Please do! we need more of y'all :)
Do it!
You should!
INSTANT booktube fave. Guys... the voice. THE VOICE.
Definitely agree with you on reading physical books.
After staring at a computer screen all day, ink on paper is a relief for both the eyes and the mind.
Welcome!
😺✌️
Appreciate you! Thank you for the welcome, and I'm with you on physical books 🙂
Welcome! It's lovely to gain another intelligent, well spoken reader with an open mind and broad reading tastes.👍
thank you for your kind comment 🙂
You had me at “expand past my current horizons” and “seek the widest perspectives”. Deep respect. Take me with you.
Brother, your video appeared in my recommended, as soon as I hit play, I really liked the style and vibe. Hugs from Brazil.
Thank you Igor! Appreciate it
As someone who recently graduated with an Information Systems degree, I can definitely relate to feeling like reading as a hobby is not always well regarded in tech spaces. I’m excited to see someone with a similar background join this community. Welcome to booktube! 🎉
totally agree! thank you for the warm welcome!
that's fascinating to me. why isn't reading more popular in tech spaces you think? not an appreciation for the humanities in general? i've seen some people argue that...
As a brown girlie…who’s studying engineering and loveees reading…I think I’ve found my favourite RUclipsr
The traffic in the window.... is so.... atmosphere, so ambient. ❤
For the fellow techie... Book Tropes = Design Patterns
I haven't heard it described like this before but that makes so much sense. 😮
LOLLL
Welcome to booktube! I’ve been watching videos within this niche for over 10 years now and I can count on one hand how many Black men I’ve seen. Your perspective and voice is very much needed. Can’t wait to see what you read!
thank you for the encouraging welcome!
You would not believe how many educated people are really stuck in their bubble. I've met so many doctors and engineers and they're very smart but only when it comes to their field - they can only talk about their work and that's it. It makes people very capable but so boring, like what do you talk to them about that's not their work?
So, seeing someone like you is a breath of fresh air! Welcome to booktube! Hopefully, I'll join the ranks soon :D
thank you for the warm welcome!
Omg HEY! 👋🏾 I’ve only just seen this so apologies! HUUUUUGE welcome to BookTube! What a fabulous video and I know your channel is going to be a hit. It’s so amazing to see more black/POC booktubers! Also, your taste in literature is so interesting. I’m really excited to see more from you.
Oh and of course I’ve subbed right away. ☺️🫶🏾
P.S make sure you share your Goodreads or Storygraph so we can all go and follow you. ☺️
Hey, Nickelle! Thank you so much for the warm welcome. Watching your channel has been such an inspiration! Thanks for the tips on linking to goodreads!
@@DolapoAdedokunyou’re so sweet! 🥹 thank you! I’m so pleased to see how well you’re doing. 👏🏾✨
This is such a sweet interaction, this is truly what the Internet should be for. Good luck to both of you with everything. xx
Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmer! This is one of my favorite books of all time! The reflection of Kimmer's life, loving our mother earth, learning respiratory with all life, the science of so many different things, and so much more! This book made me reflect on my own life so much!
as a literature student who feels a bit lonely with her love for reading sometimes because her friends are mostly STEM people, this video made me smile.
also, I really enjoy the sound quality in this vid and your voice in general! i'm excited to see where your bookish adventures will lead you.
So kind of you to say, that made me smile, thank you!
I completely agree and felt the same!
He had such a soothing voice ❤
So grateful for all the new booktube channels, and for the algorithm showing them to me !!
On earth we're briefly gorgeous is an incredible book, I'm looking forward your review 🌞
As for recommendation, if you haven't read it yet, Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson is truly brilliant and I'll never shut up about it!
Hey, thank you for commenting. And yes, already on the reading list!
Awesome, thanks for participating in this tag. It's comforting and encouraging.
Your voice and cadence is so calming, the way you express and articulate your thoughts is really compelling, and your smile makes me smile!! And your thumbnail is great! I'm very excited for your videos!
ur voice is so calming !
That's so kind! Thank you
Immediately subscribed - love your unique background and intention (I also work in tech!) and appreciate your calming, articulate voice. Fantastic to see more black booktubers in my feed lately too! x
Getting to glimpse into another world is why I read
Welcome! Great to hear your answers. Making videos about books is definitely a great way to better remember and think about what you’ve read in more depth. I’d have forgot most of what I’ve read if I didn’t record it. 😅 I’ve been getting back into Greek myths after watching an excellent recent series on Amazon prime that describes these stories. Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts about what you’re reading.
Hi Eric! thank you so much for your comment! Definitely looking forward to being able to look back at some of these reflections.
Welcome to booktube! You’re a natural in front of the camera 🥰
Hi Dolapo! I really resonated with this video. I attended an engineering college for my undergrad and got a CS/Math degree, and for my graduate I attended another CS program at a public university. I loved my peers and those programs but they definitely tended to be cultural monoliths!
I completely empathize that being a lit fic person in those cultural silos can be discouraging; not being into videogames/anime/fantasy/tech-bro culture has often made me feel a bit like an outcast at times. I’ve found that booktube can be a good outlet for finding people with different interests!
I can totally resonate with that. CS can be such an echo chamber at times. Thank you for commenting!
I usually don’t comment, but I just wanted to say welcome to Booktube! Can’t wait to see what you do with your channel!
Welcome to the warm and wonderful community of booktube. You’ve listed many of my favorite books! Love your calm and thoughtful style. I’m looking forward to your future conversations!
Thank you so much, Hannah! 🙂
Dystopian classic recommendation for the intersection of books and tech: Fahrenheit 451
Ah! So happy to find your channel! Welcome! Love what you said about being in an echo chamber. That's why I like to have a diverse group of Booktubers to follow--both in background and taste--and happy to add you to it! I'm hoping to be a diverse voice too--I'm obviously a white woman, but I have a lot of qualities that make my perspective unique. Love this community!
Black man booktubing! IMMEDIATELY subbed😂😂😂
Slower, more intentional. Yes! Just subscribed. Looking forward to many more videos.
Gotta love how effective a thumbnail color pallet can be. Glad to see you and can’t wait to hear your recommendations
hahah thank you! i really winged it so glad to get this feedback 😆
If it werent for audiobooks, i wouldn't be able to read at all 😬🤪
Looking forward to your discussions 🤓
Welcome to Book Tube from the land down under... Australia. Reading books is a way to share lifetimes through infinite possibilities.... Then a movie shatters my mental health causing a mental breakdown. Hypersanity is having a mental breakthrough reaching new heights. Continue your passions friend.
Nickelle"s Nook sent me here. :) Your answers were beautiful! I hope you have an amazing experience on BookTube.
Welcome to the Booktube community! 👋Looking forward to your future post.
Instant subscriber! Perhaps it is the way the computer science part of your brain naturally works, but I love the way that you crafted your responses in such an organized & formulaic, yet thoughtful and warm manner! Which sounds a lot like what you're trying to marry between your two interests of tech and books. And very much a fan of books that challenge our perspectives and engage us in true critical thinking. Looking forward to more of your Booktube recs :)
WELCOME Dolapo!! Booktube is so fun! I 100% relate to reading a bunch of self-help nonfiction and having the desire to move away from that. Happy to see fellow STEM major in Booktube. I studied Chemical Engineering in college 😀Excited to see more videos from you!
A fellow engineer! Thank you for the welcome 🙂
Here for the more in depth book discussions! 👏 I also really like your insight about how fiction can teach us more about life than self help can.
what a fresh addition! I look forward to hearing you!
Welcome to booktube! I'm also a computer scientist! (Well, i have a degree...no job yet lol)
Welcome! I’m a math teacher (so STEM-adjacent, but sometimes I get imposter syndrome when I call myself STEM EEKI) who loves to read and sometimes that’s hard for people to comprehend. So happy to have you in this space! You are very well spoken and calming.
You read everything! :) Great to see you here, I'll follow you for more ideas of my "I read everything" world too.
i really resonate with what you said about wanting to properly get to grips with the ideas and perspectives behind the books you read, and also resonate with that eclectic desire to expand into all sorts of genres - i feel like i am also in that place right know where i just want to expand my horizons, both in terms of reading widely but also DEEPLY! I'm really excited to follow your discoveries and discussions 😊
Thank you for your comment, Cate! Aand totally agree, what a magical thing it is when our curiosity can wander freely 🙂
I’m late but so glad I found your channel! I’m a librarian at a stem university and found that our comp sci and engineering students love talking about books. Many use reading as a way to destress from their rigorous coursework which I think is great
Thank you for being here!
Totally agree I loved this video and I like that you want to delve deeper into the books versus just giving recommendations. I started my Booktube last week haven't done my into video yet but I want to really discuss the books I have read, answer questions, do a deep dive of the characters and what the author is relaying in the story. Hope to get a lot of this structure from your channel.
All’ve human history within you rests.
The proof, the pleading sunlight on your cheek.
A lucid dream you wish you never left,
attempts to stall the setting sun’s retreat.
The sunset gives its fabled flash of light;
an emerald glow that lines the restless dead.
It should remind you of the pace of Time-
-you dread about tomorrow’s shift instead.
But if you live, you’ll never haunt like them,
and if you live, you won’t become a ghost.
And if you try to live the dreams you’ve dreamt
then nothing can indebt or tax your soul.
But if you work until retirement,
what kind of dream was that that you have dreamt?
-a sonnet that I wrote
yay new black booktubers!
I think I can relate to you! I lived abroad for years and made friends who love reading there, but now that I'm back in the U.S. and in a new city, I don't have anyone I can see/talk to regularly who reads much at all. I'm also a STEM person so it was already hard to find those reading friends in the first place 😅 Having the online book community is such a great way to hear about a variety of books and see others' thoughts on what they're reading... somehow I feel such a sense of connection with people I don't even know. Welcome to booktube, I'm so happy to have come across your channel as you seem so kind and interesting ☺
Thank you for the welcome. Right!! It's really challenging. So excited to have an online community to discuss with!
Fantastic!!!! Wish you all the best with your channel. Welcome. Subscribed and hit notification bell
I saw the title of your video and clicked and subscribe. And it just so happens that I am a STEAM/STEM girl in engineering 😅😊Awesome vlog 💯‼️💖
seeing this being recommended couldnt have occurred at a better time; i just finished a rhetoric course on transhumanism and, now, seeing your interests in literature and CS feel like a blend catered to extend my interests in navigating between the two! basically, a complicated way of saying im looking forward to ur future videos :)
The newbie booktube tag, made me find your channel 😊.
I work in Finance and love books. Love to see a lot of non lit professionals here !
New follower and welcome. Look forward to hearing your thoughts and sharing your journey. Good to see a black man talking books and ect. Happy Holidays🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄☺️☺️☺️☺️
thank you! Happy holidays to you as well!
on earth is my fav book of all time! I will def watch any content discussing it
so exciting to see a fellow bipoc reader who's also a techie!! subscribed, so excited to keep up with your content!
i have not had the greatest day today so i feel so lucky that this popped into my recommended !! the chill music, your calm voice and good book taste, everything in this vid is just so *chef's kiss*
its so exciting to see more poc in the booktube space !!! as someone who is poc and also has that combined passion for stem/computer science and literature, i really feel like i've found a kindred spirit (: keep up the great work, i can't wait to see what you put out next !
Wow, what a touching comment. Thank you so so much, and hope you are feeling better!
Welcome to booktube! (You have a beautiful voice.)
Ahhh! I have also seen NickellesNook's booktube newbie tag and have been thinking of participating myself. While I'm not exactly *in* tech (I am a visual designer in the Bay Area), I totally understand what you mean about wanting to broaden your interests in literature. Welcome, welcome! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on all kinds of books (:
Thank you so much! Am actually trying to get more into design myself. And absolutely do it! So many new people here from this video!
Maybe I'll muster the courage to do one this weekend 😅 I'm happy to share any design resoruces whenever you feel ready for them!
It's nice to have a new voice in the Booktube space. Welcome!
Subscribed! I can't wait to see you flourish on booktube!
welcome to booktube!! obsessed with the range of the books you showed lol
Excited to see where you take your channel!
Welcome to BookTube! ❤
You might enjoy In the Dream House: A Memoir by Carmen Maria Machado. One of my favorite books!
Welcome to BookTube Dolapo! I am also in a career with a very specific worldview and culture (I'm an electrical apprentice) and joined BookTube to have discussions with other readers with similar interests. We have some overlap in reading taste in that I enjoy reading books that expand my worldview and allow me to learn about the experiences of others. I subscribe to a lot of channels that talk mostly about fantasy and yes, I love a good fantasy book, but I have been wanting to find other BookTubers with a wider variety of fiction interests, so I'm very happy to find your channel!
Hello! I totally agree -- I love an immersive fantasy story but also love a book that allows me to learn about the experience of others. Thank you for your comment!
I love the variety of the books you showed!
thank you, Samantha!
As a QA tester, I'm the only one in my company who reads so I'm happy to find someone from IT who also reads 😁
Hahah, thank you for commenting 🙂
Welcome to BookTube! Hope you have a good time here. And what a start you got! Really happy for you! I just hit 100 subs after 1 year of posting 😅
Soothing voice plus books? I’m here to stay 😂🩶
hahaha, that is very kind of you 🙂
Welcome!!!
Welcome! Good luck with your channel 😊
So good to see a fellow Nigerian here! Subbed!
Same!! Cant wait to read with you!!
I really enjoyed your intro. I just started a #booktube channel, too. You have a very soothing voice. Maybe audiobook narrator in your future?
You’ve got a really diverse range of books.
This is the best idea ever! BEST cure for winter blues. I have made so many incredible international connections from BookTube and have had my thoughts changed so much as a result of exposure to new ideas and new books. Welcome :)

Amazing selection of book examples, I really love how wide variety of books you are interested in, and I have wished to find more booktubers who go deep into the discussions. I’m thrilled to follow and see what kind of content you come up with!
thank you so much!
I love your diverse reading palate! Immediately subscribed 😊
Love the range of books you're reading. Also the aim of having a slower and more in-depth examination of books; that's what I am doing as well. Look forward to your content.
Thank you!
