Can you use this tutorial and use porcelain tile instead? If so how would I use a use a concrete stepping stone set tiles with a thin set mortar instead of a backer board I would like to use porcelain tile vs ceramic as I plan to put outside in my memory garden and was told porcelain tile is best to use if kept outside in the elements as the colorant of the tile goes throughout the tile and it it gets chipped the color is still the same? For porcelain tile cutting tools to use compound nip cutters & pistol grip cutters? I appreciate whatever feedback you can give me before I purchase your course. Thanks!!

High-fire ceramic tiles work for any weather and traffic. That is what they are designed for. If you need to use porcelain because you want the same body of color all the way through, that is okay, but if you grout your mosaic, that won't matter since the grout will fill in where you would see the tile body. You can use side biter nippers or compound nippers to cut them. Good luck~
