    Never but anything off of an ad UNTIL you've done full research. Never trust common ads. Never click on ads when you don't know what it's advertising and are only intrigued.

    For a brief second, I thought you were about to telle that the vrc devs started injecting ads into the game itself. I haven't played in almost two years, so I've missed a lot. Thankfully it's just the usual in-world posters that were there even back when I played.
    Personally, I think those posters are a good starting system for in-game advertising, because they add real-world style clutter without being obtrusive.

    The quality control when it comes to these ads' what concerns me most. I don't mind a good product that meets the customers' expectation, if not surprass them. But man sometimes it feels like weird non sensical bloat.

    You nearly lost me in the first bit; but you honestly do have a valid point. I really don't mind ads being around VRChat as it helps generate new creators to advertise their products. However, the lack of moderation when it comes to them seems like the real matter. Like the fact I've full on seen ads that highlight adult like content in worlds that are meant to be for all ages; it's pretty messed up. The best action forward for VRChat is to probably add on adlilly to their system to help set stricter guidelines on what's allowed on there or not.

    I wouldn't really mind seeing ads while in a lobby for waiting for the game to start like in Murder 4 or Among us. Sometimes I actually read them if I have nothing else to do. But the proper way would be similar in the Quick Draw world, where the game master can disable all the ads by a click of a button for everyone. At least, we woud have the ability to turn them off, and even the world creator gets some benefits too, because not everyone would turn the ads off.

    I've said to a friend before but all those copycat slimeVR trackers still need to use the slimeVR software, at that point you might as well just go with official slimes since they're a million times more trustworthy and often still cheaper than those copycats. (Not to mention despite trying to sell a product they literally tell you how to DIY them yourself if you wanna save some cash)
    As for the ads in general, I think they're okay IF they remain non-intrusive. Like the banners in Popcorn Palace are everywhere but they don't get in the way of accessing the video players or the games in the games room and you can even turn them off when you reach any of the video screens to access the settings. If those kinda ads help continue to support people making decent worlds I'm all for it. There should be quality control, of course. After all the platform is filled with children now thanks to Quest making VR more mainstream.
    The main thing I'm concerned about is when/if ads start actually getting in the way of you playing the game, interacting with key things in worlds, etc. And you know for sure it's a matter of when and not if.

    Great video I like ur energy and u have a nice voice. Was very easy to listen to. As for me... I think the only ads I want to see in a vr world are ones advertising the creators of the world. And even then I like when they're subtle and or in a place that doesn't clash with the world ect. My favourite case of creators advertising their social medias is when they have them on a in game pc screen ect. Cause it blends in nicely

    Honestly, I find the way a lot of worlds do ads to be more immersive, not all, specifically worlds that are trying to be like, bedrooms and houses just don't make sense
    But seeing a poster board with ads in a movie world feels like I'm really at the movies, this more points out how much advertising is a part of our lived experience, but I can't imagine going to the movies and not being blasted with trailers and posters all around the entrance, it's part of the experience
    Edit: as for ads for straight up bad products, here's the rule there, they are ads, never trust ads, this goes for VR and real life, always look for reviews of the product and if you can't find them, well that should tell you it's bad
    As for 18+ ads? I'm firmly of the opinion VRchat should be an 18+ platform, as should all social media (by social media I mean sites like Instagram and Twitter, sites meant for meeting random strangers, things like discord I see more as private chat rooms) any site or service where you can meet random people, it's just to dangerous for kids
    Actual SA trigger warning ahead
    I use to use Twitter for porn, but it's so disgustingly filled with CP now that I can't, all because Twitter just, isn't moderated anymore, it's not an exaggeration to say that litterally something as basic as # NSFW can lead you to bots spamming it, how is that a platform that in anyway should be OK for someone 13 to use? Hell how is Twitter even still up? Like how hasn't it been shut down, I don't want this to become a rant of how much of a filth hell scape of straight up illegal shit Twitter is now, so I'll stop there

  • @Evlionn
    @Evlionn 3 месяца назад

    The difficulty might come from properly defining what would be an ad, because uncareful wording could obliterate events like VKet, and also places like the Dealer's Den at Furality. I guess if I were to define where to allow ads, it'd probably have to be A) something being promoted that is not by the world creator (so that Avatar worlds don't also get hit) and B) the world is exclusively for promoting goods/services (no chill spaces/games, although I'd make an exception for games that are related to the products being promoted).
    I'm on the fence about whether or not groups should count as ads or not. Allowing them could end up being a loophole, it would be a very difficult one to exploit, I think, so maybe any promotion of groups is ok no matter where.

Back before the credits, I could understand monetizing your world as a way to get money in, but now that users can just directly support you threw VRC Credits (Although I have some issues with that system in general) it feels kinda extra to have ads in your world now...

  • @qx-808drake3
    @qx-808drake3 3 месяца назад

    As someone who just barely got into VRChat, I can't say I've encountered this much at all yet. It's very likely though that I just haven't been to any of the particularly egregious worlds. For me personally if ads are unobtrusive I very rarely care. Like, in a public more outdoor type world, I wouldn't mind there being a poster add or two. Or like, a few ad posters in the lobby of a club world for example. Just kinda there and easy to ignore. I realize however that can get out of hand really fast, so if there's a better way to support world creation and maintenance without ads, I do think that's probably the direction we should be going. (Maybe we can roll support for creators into VRC+ there VRChat.... just sayin')
    Not to mention the fact that VRChat could easily run their own ad management system like Twitch or RUclips, but they've made it clear that ads aren't the way they wanna go. If that's the case, then I agree with you that they should probably just ban them across the platform.

    I honestly think there should be a central platform to moderate and check ads, I think ads are a great way to add to the virtual experience, monetization does bring revenue, and revenue can bring investors and such to VR to help fund this awesome technology, the primary issue is there isnt a central authority on ads, or really anyone moderating them. I feel like designing an ads platform might help make it safer and more effective for advertisers and worlds.
    Still, I do loathe ads overall. Especially when they get out of hand, but I've never found them to be terribly intrusive overall. With notable exceptions lmao

    While i do agree that some ads are downright wrong, what other system is there to incentivize the creation of worlds? If ads were banned from worlds most people that live of making worlds would lose most of their income. Making a world is time consuming work for it to be just a skill show-off.

    • @Jacobfov
      @Jacobfov  3 месяца назад +1

      There's the creator economy, which does definitely need to be fleshed out with more options, but the baseline is there. There's also the option to have a patreon or ko-fi.
      Plus it's not like the ads are a built in feature of the game anyways. By definition some of them are just against the TOS.
      Also I kinda think it's a dumb idea to go into creating worlds just because you expect to make money off of it. People should create worlds because they want to and they enjoy it.

    Frankly, the commercialization of shared and creative spaces within Cyberspace is a sign that the culture is dying. The creative impulse should be enabled, but VRChat has always cultivated a divide between its creative community and the community at large. They will leverage that divide in order to capture what they can in terms of revenue. They will only go after ad services insofar as they do not contribute to their bottom line.
    But this has been clear since they stabbed their modding community in the back. VRChat wants control, and to leverage that control in order to profit off of its creative community. Given the prevalence of advertisement, I expect vrchat to introduce their own toolkit/service and to more rigorously enforce that portion of their TOS. But before that, if they are smart, they will allow this to reach a crisis point so that their attempt to capture the revenue looks like them stepping in to 'solve the ad problem'.

      Also the difference between VRChat and RUclips is that RUclips has guidelines that they actually enforce. In video sponsorships are subject to the same advertising policies that a regular Google ad would be.
