    WGU is an ontrack accredited university. Basically how it works is instead of paying credit, you are basically paying time. So, you pay for one semester at a time which is about six months. Then, depending on the program, you will only pay about thirty-five hundred to four thousand dollars per semester or six months.
    Basically how it works is that you can complete as many courses as you like in that six month timeframe. If you are highly intelligent and strategic, and you happen to complete your entire degree in that six month time period, then you have just earned a bachelor's degree.
    Comparison between current and new network security and engineering degreesThen we go into a current network operations security degree and compare it to a new network engineering and security degree. We can see a spreadsheet in this section. So let's take a look at that. Basically, in the left-hand column these are the current network operations and security degrees and in the right-hand column these are new network engineering and security degrees.
    There are a few differences, but the main thing that really stands out is that there seem to be less common classes on new network engineering and security degrees. So, in current engineering and network security degrees we have more English compositions, but in new network engineering and security degrees, we have a large amount of discrete mathematics with algorithms and cryptography. There is more programming and difficult technical classes in the new networking engineering and security degree.
    Network and security engineering path at WGUNext we will look at the two tracks of network engineering and security side by side. As seen in the image below! The left side here will be the generic one and the right side here will be the cisco centric or the cisco specific.
    Essentially, all of the main classes in the core classes for both tracks are the same. When we first access the course program, the general one is on the left and the Cisco-specific one is on the right. For example, we have IOT (Internet of Things) for general track, but in cisco-specific we have certifications such as cisco cyber ops, DevNet and CCNA. In the left column, we have network and application security, network automation and deployment and also version control.
    These two courses are really really good and all the discrete math in this is really really impressive. Both programs place a strong focus on programming and version control, making for a fairly fascinating degree that combines network engineering with certain elements of software engineering or computer science.
    It's like two favorite things combined, doing cisco and doing computer science stuff at the same time. This is really really cool to see.
    Study.com - Acceleration strategy and money saving strategy
    Next we'll go in and look at some acceleration strategies and money-saving strategies. If you want to enroll in this program and then finish faster than usual and or save a little money. Let's take a look at this spreadsheet!
    At the bottom there will be several tabs, general and cisco tabs. Basically the contents of both are more or less the same. The first column is the course id, the second column is the name of the course, then the number of credits or units. Then the fourth column is the column equivalent to study.com.
    What this means is that WGU has partnerships with various types of educational institutions, whereby you can take classes in those organizations and then transfer them to WGU and then satisfy them for your program.

      This new degree is fucked, they added 13 immuntable classes. so even if you transfer everything in you still have like 1 year or study to knock out and that is prob going to be the fastest you can knock it out.

      Shoot, it depends on how much you are interested in coding and the Discrete math. If I had to pick one, I would definitely pick the Net Eng Sec degree (cisco track). I don't know if it's "worth it" for you to switch unless you are really passionate about it because the cloud degree is freaking good too, especially the new ones :P

Debating between BSIT and BSNES but this new degree seems to be very similar to the BSIT but with a few more CompTIA certs (going the CompTIA track for speed). Alot of employers and positions in my area specifically ask for CCNA for Network anything positions, so this is an attractive degree and edges out the WGU BS Cybersecurity & Information Assurance degree by just a smidge.
    The BSNES from WGU offers a General (CompTIA) track and a Cisco track.
    I'm wondering, since the CCNA can be a beast, if its worth it, to get the CCT first, (along with using NetAcad or Skillsforall) as an entry-level run for CCNA for someone who doesn't have CompTIA Network+.

    • @jamealjordon1376

      Considering my WGU entry date is now a hard April 1st, due to employment reimbursement timeframe, I'm considering once I'm done with WGU partner stuff, to go study for the Cisco CCT, to get a feel for the Cisco style of tests, as a prep for CCNA.

    Hi Josh, so I've been admitted to the BSCSIA program and I start September 1st. Only thing is, the Cisco track for the BSNES seems objectively better minus not having SSCP or CCSP. Math/Programming isn't my favorite thing in the world but it the practicality seems interesting and it seems like such an invaluable skill in tech that I might as well suck it up and learn it. Is it too late to switch? Should I switch?

    How is the market someone who was to work as a freelance cybersecurity technician.I worked in the New York area years ago, and the guys who seemed to have it together, were contract programmers making about $ 500.00 a day, working short and long term projects.This was in 1981. People would work for six months, then vacation in the Bahamss, for two or three months.
    Edward Snowden left the CIA,and went to work for Dell at $ 3000,00 a week.I assume this was a contract as why would you want to leave a stable government job,but just needed more freedom.Contracting seems the best way to go,..more money and a free lifestyle.

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  2 года назад +2

      Contracting is the best imo. I'm in Bangkok Thailand right now looking at my high-rise Airbnb over the city as I type this. Room is $30/day and I can get a full meal for less then $5, meanwhile my contract is giving me big coins. Full freedom haha.
      The market has unlimited work as long as your person (resume, portfolio...employability) is squared away. Getting there is the tricky part, but once you are, you are good to go. Also government jobs suck IMO. I will never work for the govt gain unless it's as a very specialized contract position where they are giving me more money than I'm worth. lol

I want to get into network engineering or something with automation, with all my transfer credits I will only have 7 classes left if I decided to do the CS degree, or I could also do the network engineering degree with about 14 classes left. Nah, Cisco had an even lower networking cert, that was about on par with network+, it was the CCENT. But they dissolved it in 2020, and actually sort of combined it with CCNA, so CCNA is actually the entry level networking cert that Cisco offers. So CCNA is an entry level cert now. It used to be exactly mid level cert from Cisco. Cyberops is as well. Material is about on par with security+ or maybe even cysa... Doesn't hold as much weight which is bs, but hey.

      Hey! If you're already working and getting experience, you already got the hard part out of the way. Data is kinda my weak area though i find it interesting. I knw you can make quite a bit as a data scientist and that degree is supposed to steer you in that direction, but I imaging there is a lot of other prep you'd probably have to do to land a bonafide data science/engineering role. If not that degree, CS will be the highest paying, assuming you go through with the other stuff necessary to get a high paying Engineering job :)

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  2 года назад +3

      It's hard to say since the CS degree is such a wildcard. The CS degree provides the best foundation and the highest pay ceiling IMO, but you really have to work for it, even after you graduate. With the cloud degree, you can get a good job with much less effort IMO. It's just kind of a toss-up. and hard to answer. There is also a lot of overlap between cloud and development these days as well. An alternative would be to go for the Cloud Degree then get your programming up on your own, as needed. This would let you graduate faster than with the extra time, you can build up your coding skills.
      I might recommend checking out the video on how I interviewed at google. You might get some insights from there. thanks so much for watching!

    *Hey Josh, Thanks for your content and contributions to youtube. I have been looking into this degree because it is very cert heavy degree. I look at it looks it qualifies me for many opportunities outside of what I actually want. Do you see this degree as appropriate for someone wanting to do software QA are maybe data analysis? I know that there are degrees that suit the careers better but id like to get a degree that helps qualify for the most opportunities and leaves me in a good position to pivot my career. I also want the degree to be relevant to my current desire for a software qa role but not as hard as a CS degree leaving me struggling to finish. What are your thoughts on this? I know it's long but it would really help to get your opinion. I'm very open to brutal honesty.* Dexterous X
