Morocco has some ultimate street food, and here in Rabat there is loads of street food to be had in the old medina. On this ultimate street food tour in Rabat, we started off our day with the local medina sandwich of habricha, full of meat and spices. Head meat is a popular Moroccan food, so we had to try a steamed cow head sandwich, too. This cow head meat was super tender and tasty, full of flavour with a yummy cumin addition.
To continue our ultimate street food tour in Rabat, Morocco, we went looking for the most popular food in Rabat and tried out some delicious local pastries and the popular Moroccan food of merguez sausage. Merguez sausages are a popular street food in Morocco. Grab your merguez sausage, put them in fresh Moroccan khobz, and you’re away!
Last stop on our ultimate street food tour in Rabat trying some of the best street food in Morocco, was at Dar El Medina to watch the preparation and cooking of a massive Moroccan couscous. Couscous is Morocco's national dish, so this was a special treat for us, since we’ve been wanting to see the preparation of Moroccan couscous since we arrived in Morocco. This was a massive Moroccan couscous, and the time and effort that goes into making this popular Moroccan food is worth seeing.
We hope you enjoy our ultimate street food tour in Rabat, Morocco! Especially making the massive Moroccan couscous, and trying merguez sausages and the tasty cow head meat sandwich. Stay tuned next week for some more Moroccan street food adventures from a new city!

Great video again❤️❤️ You really know how to inspire your viewers. Thank you. I too love Moroccan pastries alot and I understand why some would think that it came from France or due to colonialism. However from my understand its quite different from those found in Europe, with honey, dates, nuts, semolina and dried fruits being the main ingredients. According to some sources, it was already being prepared in the 10th century in Al-Andalus (Muslim Iberia and north west Africa very tied) so you will see that due to a shared history at times people would get confused where it started. Al Andalus or Muslim Iberia might have had also a huge impact on French cuisine at a certain time.
Hey Maria, you're right there's a lot of influence throughout that part of the world at that time. We always find it interesting how cultures have such an effect on each other throughout history in terms of dishes and cooking styles. You really learn a lot about a country's history through their food. Thanks for the info and the comment!
You’re welcome guys , its good to see you enjoying this beautiful experience in our beautiful country

Really enjoyed your video, guys!! Where can I start?? Everything was so interesting! Amazing to actually see the steamed cow heads, definitely not something we see in the menu in Canada😊! The kindness and generosity of the people really came out in the video .

@steven It is not a colorant. The sausage is just filled with spices, paprika spice gives it its red color. ;)

Hi Richard, thanks so much for your comment and for watching :) the couscous was truly something special😋 honestly, we like pretty much everything, we are really open minded when it comes to food. There's nothing really that Chris doesn't like, but as for Steph, she's not a fan of raw tomatoes 😂
مرحبا بك عندنا في المغرب🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🤝🌹
Thanks for the lovely video. Good to know that you appreciated the city of Rabat, especially the old medina which is its main asset. It's my native city and I live there! A very warm welcome you guys! As for the pastry pieces yes you're right there's a French influence but with a Moroccan touch. You should have tried typical Moroccan pastry it's everything! Perhaps next time!
Thanks so much for your comment and your welcome! 😊 We really enjoyed our time in Rabat, the food, people, city, it was a great experience. We'll definitely have to try some other pastries next time, thanks for watching 😊

Welcome to Morocco 🇲🇦
Thank you!
Omg omg omg omg this is my favorite place to eat fresh sausage sooooo yummy doesnt even need much sauces and salad to make it tasty..just on their own they are yummy
You're so right, the sausages themselves are so flavourful and tasty, that's all you need to enjoy them 🤤 thanks for watching and commenting!
@@HungryTwoTravel The merguez are not Moroccan, they come from Algeria, it is a creation of the French Pieds Noirs. As for the couscous consumed in all of North Africa, it also comes from Algeria where it has existed since antiquity. Just like the whole of the pastry most often of Ottoman origin taught by the Algerians exiled in Morocco. They brought it to this country nearly two centuries ago during the French colonization that they had fled.
Wow..is amazing food, put lot of spices inside, seems like Indian food, Couscous must try next time.
Interesting.!
Thanks Chris & Steph.
Good luck always.

You definitely should! The food there was amazing, and the people very friendly and welcoming. Enjoy your time in Morocco!
Wow that steamed cow head is a show stopper. I’ve heard the cheek meat is very good.
The couscous cooking pot is so awesome!
The cheek meat is very good, the most tender part by far. Once it's all cut up together though it's so nice, makes for a very different sandwich for sure! Also the pot for couscous is a very good invention ;) thanks for watching and commenting, Krista!! 😊
Zalook is one of my favorite salads. I make it all summer and have eaten it since I was 15 years old. I pair it with hummus and a Moroccan carrot salad that they make. Between those and bruschetta, that's what I eat all summer long.
Yum! That sounds delicious😋

It depends from region to region. We don't eat couscous with our hands in Hoceima (Northern Morocco). And it can be seen as not respecting the others. But in other cities, you will find a lot of people eating it with their hands ;)
Oh wow that's very interesting to know, thanks for the info 😉
Nobody in the North of Morocco eats couscous with their hands. It’s more a countryside thing in the south.

Why Morocco is welcoming? Because the word Morocco came from Marrakech, founded in 1062 by the Moroccan dynasty Almoravid. Marrakech means in Tamazight/Berber : Amur n Akuch , "The land of God". There is an old manuscript written 800 years ago, titled in Arabic "Cookbook in Morocco and Andalusia" and contains more than 500 recipes of different dish and pastries in the era of the Moroccan dynasty Almohads (from Mauritania to Libya and Andalusia(south of Spain and Portugal)). Almohads founded the city of Rabat in the 12th century but their Capital was Marrakech
Greeting for Montreal - Canada
Al Andalus, at its greatest extent, included modern Andalusia; Castile and León; Navarre, Aragon, Catalonia; Portugal and Galicia; and the Languedoc-Roussillon area of Occitanie. So almost the whole Iberian peninsula.
