    I got my kitchen from DIY Kitchens in a similar style in alabaster colour…they’re fantastic quality. My cupboards go up to the ceiling (using a narrow infill). DIY Kitchens used my photographs for promotional purposes for a couple of years….that was a big compliment.

    Well, this is a very premature comment as this is just the start of your presentation, but is it me or does anyone else love this old kitchen? I’m sure your new renovation will, as usual, blow me away but I hope you were able to do some salvage as you suggested and pass these lovely cabinets onto a new person. … from PA, USA.

    Very impressive indeed. I would have been tempted to take those windows out and the centre column and have a huge window to take advantage of that garden view , but we’re do you stop ?

      Another nice kitchen Nick. Can I just ask, when doing the extractor hood, do you normally vent outside? What size ducting do you use, 4" or 6"?

    • @NicksHomeRenovations
      @NicksHomeRenovations  3 года назад +1

      Yes I try to extract outside where possible, rbis one did by going through the wall cupboard to the right of the extractor. This one was 4 inch, depends on the extractor and/or your cooking levels.

      @andrewb113: Agree nice kitchen look achieved, but a single full width window would have been my choice, but if not possible i would have replaced the zealous heavily leaded sealed glazing units with clear glass, easy to do, the garden is beautiful no need to obscure it.

    Love the time lapse! What a beautiful kitchen! The flooring is awesome! The only thing I would have done differently would have been to square off the door tops that lead to laundry room and hall. And, remove the mullions from the windows. I'm guessing they can be removed. In America, the mullions can be removed for cleaning or removed from the windows altogether. You did a fabulous job, Nick!

    A very smart transformation, great time lapse editing, shaker suits this bungalow, the colour is contemporary and the light wood floor really lifts the room, induction hobs are fantastic and built in microwave is much better than a bulky worktop model, the only thing that doesn't quite work for me is the medieval look cupboard door, the colour matches but i would have changed the door furniture to match the units. Nice lighting and plenty of sockets, many people don't consider ambient and practical lighting.

    Excellent work and look of the kitchen, lighting, appliances and redesign. My question: backsplash is out? Or they did not want it ? Looks smart, very smart, so if that’s a trend I like it! Though of course it makes the space more white and grey which can get monotonous afterwards. The world it seems has got white and grey esp in 2020. Thank god 2021 sees more colour! I can see fuschia and/ or yellow- orange and/or green here, for example!

Your client has up-stands but no splash back (except the cooker) so no replacing of the wall tiles is that the way to go these days? Is it a style thing or are kitchen paints & extractors good enough? Cheers

    • @NicksHomeRenovations
      @NicksHomeRenovations  3 года назад +5

      Thank you! 50/50 in terms of tiles or painted/upstand with my clients to be honest! Tiles can allow you to bring some bold colours/patterns to a kitchen that painting just can’t, but it’s down to individual choice. Good luck!

    Beautiful job and just started watching your videos. The lay out is great and have two questions; Why use vinyl over wood flooring? Why such a small sink? Seems a bit small for counter and not that deep. Cheers from the states!

    • @john_smith1471
      @john_smith1471 3 года назад +1

      The old floor had dated tiles, screeded over then a wood laminate as mentioned in the video, the sink is 1.5 bowl, smaller part is for peeling and prepping food, Flexi hose tap useful for that, the larger section works ok for occasional washing up usually with a wire basket set in, most people use a dishwasher now, not much call now for huge daily washing up of pots, pans and crockery, and smaller less deep sinks use less water, so more eco friendly.

  • @Siansonea
    @Siansonea 3 года назад

    Overall these looks really wonderful, but I'm surprised you didn't change the door to the utility room. All of those strange peaked doorways look like a throwback to a previous renovation, they don't look like authentic architectural features from the original house that have been kept, even if that's what they are. The paneled door in the butler's pantry section goes much better with the style of the new kitchen, I would have changed the peaked doors to match that door. The peaked doors just look like they're trying to emulate some kind of ancient castle style, and that's just not working with the sleekness of the new design.
    I also think the cooktop and sink look really small and narrow in scale in relation to the other features in the kitchen. In a kitchen like this, I would expect a wider cook surface. The ovens and refrigerator are great though, I like how both the refrigerator and freezer are tucked away and unobtrusive.
    I would have eliminated the upper cabinets flanking the extractor built-in, and placed open shelving with decorative cookware and objects. Yes, you lose a bit of storage, but it would make that area look like more of a feature and focal point. And this kitchen looks like it has plenty of storage.
    Once again though, this renovation turned out really well overall, this is just what I would do differently.

      About 7 metres of standard worktop, the breakfast bar was 90cm wide by 150cm long, plus upstand, taking it into windowsills and a 60cm splashback behind the hob. Hope this helps 👍

    Hey Nick, did you ever manage to sell it on eBay in the end. If so, can I ask how much it eventually sold for? Helps me to understand how much these guys get sold for or if it's worth just scrapping it. Cheers

    • @NicksHomeRenovations
      @NicksHomeRenovations  3 года назад +2

      Yes. You’ll never get much on eBay if you advertise as I do; to take down, remove and take away. No more than £100. Maybe you’ll get more if you take it apart yourself but I’ve sold some for less than £20 but the point is you don’t have to spend hours or days taking it apart!

    The kitchen looks amazing! However, the layout seem really strange having the refrigerator so far away. I would have ripped out the utility room to make space for the refrigerator and pantry... and placed the washer/dryer under the counter next to the back door.

    • @NicksHomeRenovations
      @NicksHomeRenovations  3 года назад +2

      Thanks Donovan. The fridge is right in the heart of the kitchen, it’s the freezer that is down the other end at request of the client 👍. They also didn’t want the WM in the same room for noise reasons.

    Hi Nick! I'm from the U.S. and curious about kitchen boilers. So is this a unit that heats the kitchen tap and dishwasher? Is there a separate one for the bath? I assume that this takes the place of our hot water heater that sits in the basement with the furnace.

    • @clarkeysam
      @clarkeysam 3 года назад

      That boiler will supply heat and hot water to the whole house, it just happens to be in a kitchen.

    • @NicksHomeRenovations
      @NicksHomeRenovations  3 года назад

      The boiler heats the whole house, which in this case is 2 bathrooms, all of the radiators and the kitchen and downstairs toilet taps too. There is no water heater, everything is Gas and the dishwasher is connected to the hot water line from the sink, which again comes from the same boiler! Hope this helps.
