Also, you probably know this, but in an interview or article I read, Ben deliberately put on weight for the second season to show that John helped Sherlock take care of himself or make him more aware of his health. John really was healing for him.
Didn't Benedict do 'Star Trek: Into Darkness' between season 2 and season 3 of Sherlock? He would have had to gain weight and work out for the role of Khan..
He wouldn't have had to gain the weight, since his Khan would have work just as much without the extra weight, but he stated that the reason he gained weight was cause he wanted to show how much living with John affected his health in a good weight
I'm convinced that for over 2 years Sherlock's prepared opening line to John was going to be 'I'm not dead. Let's have dinner' which would have told John everything he needed to know. It also makes the short version "Not dead" even more poignant.
I'm watching this after season four, and everything still stands. I stand by everything you did and I would just like to say that you were right (which you must know) despite the stuff that went down. so thank you for everything.
OMG, YESSS! Watch Sherlock's mouth: He is saying it very clearly. I can def. hear " ... time" if I turn my crappy computer all the way up. Great catch, thanks!
Did I really just spend 46min to watch a Video about why Sherlock is gay in the middle of the night (It's currently 5am)? Yes I did and i'm not even regretting it *smiling through the the pain*
Mei and also he just stands there, isn't returning kisses or doing anything with his lips whatsoever. And I for one, as John, cringe everytime I see this particular part of the episode! ;)
Two days ago I was sitting in a train when I had to remind myself that rainbow lights on real-life people don't mean anything about their sexuality. You've ingrained that connection in my brain.
You know... it's kind of absurd that some people are still claiming that Sherlock is asexual because TAB alone is proof that he is not. I mean, Moriarty FELLATED A GUN, John said he must have IMPULSES.. like...??? How do people interpret that? Don't get me wrong, asexuality should be more represented (and the fact that someone is asexual doesn't negate the option of being gay, by the way), but Sherlock Holmes is a gay man with sexual urges. Let him free! It's time!
Yes, homorromantic asexual would be the orientation... But sherlock is gay and with sexual urges. I know what an asexual looks like, i see one in my mirror every morning! XDD
even if he isnt, in the first episode he seems to be portrayed as ace and since im the same its kinda given me the mindset of "if sherlock holmes can be asexual and gay at the same time, then so can i!" so im kinda in my own fantasy world goodnight
yeah... I think it's because Sherlock has taught himself to repress his feelings because he has been shown that love is for the weak and logic is the only way, so he isn't as open about sexuality, which some people could see as asexual, but he does experience attraction, just in an atypical way...
Maybe it's not absurd. This is a quote by Steven Moffat. You might want to look into who he is. “We walk into that one all the time,” Moffat tells EW. “It’s a funny thing when a character for over 100 years has been saying, ‘I don’t do that at all.’ He’s been saying it over 100 years! He’s not interested in [sex]. He’s willfully staying away from that to keep his brain pure-a Victorian belief, that. But everyone wants to believe he’s gay. He’s not gay. He’s not straight. And Doctor Watson is very clear that he prefers women. People want to fantasize about it. It’s fine. But it’s not in the show.”
"We aren't going to explore Sherlock's childhood/family life!!" *season 3 happens* "TAB will be a stand alone episode!!!" *actually drug induced fever dream after tarmac scene* "Moriarty is DEFINITELY DEAD!!!" *trailer + setlock says otherwise* and the piece de resistance: Moffat + Gatiss: WE ARE HUGE LIARS LIKE HONESTLY HOW MANY TIMES DOES THIS NEED TO BE STATED
I really like these films! I'm a gay man and very interested in movies, and the relationship between John and Sherlock is indeed intriguing, mostly because he does things (subtle things) for John that I'd personally never do to a man I wasn't interested in. Like when John put his hand on his lap, straight men rarely have that level of comfort, especially men their age. All those long glances and the subtext is so strikingly obvious if you just look at it. No two men would have that kind of friendship if there was absolutely no romantic feelings between them. What convinces me that Sherlock is indeed gay and not bi (which I thought for long after misinterpreting ASiB) is in the scenes with Janine is when she and Sherlock is in the hospital. Sherlock: I exploited the fact of our connection. Janine (surprised): When!? Sherlock rolls his eyes. Janine: Just once would have been nice. Sherlock: I was waiting until we got married. So they haven't had sex, that's pretty obvious. And IF Sherlock was indeed attracted to women, he'd most likely have exploited that as well. Of course you could argue that he just wasn't attracted to her, but Janine is far from ugly to most straight men I'd believe. The fact that he wanted to convince her that he was in love with her but still couldn't manage a physical relationship says quite a lot to me. All this in combination with the fact that he comes back to life for John makes it blatantly obvious that Sherlock is deeply in love with John. No one would come back to life from the thought of a friend if they don't have stronger feelings than that.
You'd get an A++ for this interpretation in any essay. You just made me believe for a full 10 seconds that not only is Sherlock gay, but that the whole show wants us to slowly and subconsciously get used to the fact that Sherlock and John belong together, that noone ships Johnlock as much as the writers of the show do.
fuck I watched all this in the show but I didn't _see_ all this, you know what I mean? this is amazing, truly overwhelming evidence..it's so accurate it's almost impossible to deny at this point.
superknight you said yourself that he wants to keep himself away from sexual thoughts to keep himself together, not that he actually is. That been said, I don't mean to belittle asexuals and asexuality. It just seems pretty clear to me that this fictional character isnt (and I think her videos do a good job proving this).
oh, the creator lie alot. Don't trust them. Sherlock is gay. And what does Gatiss said: "You could be a very camp gay person, a grumoy bisexual, or a gay baddie (...) this is okay." Sounds a lot like Sherlock, John and Moraity, don't it? :)
yeah, they were also talking about sherlock at that point in the show. they've made it clear that that is going to change--TAB has John asking him about his desires, pointing out that he can't possibly be as indifferent as he seems, and they hint that something happened in his past to close him off with the reference to Redbeard at that point. And Benedict said at SDCC that in this season John's influence on him finally opens him up to his desires.
you can't judge Sherlock's character by BBC series alone because according to original Victorian sources he is Asexual. Steven Moffat himself claimed that Sherlock is neither straight neither gay . And there are total of 16 sexual and romantic orientation so we cannot speculate within small boxes based on BBC show .
i dont think sherlock ever was in love with irene, he was just so frustrated at why he couldnt read her, because well, he could always read everyone, and felt he was falling apart because it was his first he couldnt read, and he saved her life because he HAD TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO READ HER OR IT WOULD HAUNT HIM FOREVER. (sorri if im wrong, i havent watched sherlock episodes in about 3 months and although i remember the events i just cant remember them in order)
I have the same opinion like you. I mean, this man is so clearly not interested in women in the whole series, but there are people who seriously believe til today, that Sherlock was really "in love" with Irene, although he never react to her one of her flirtation trys to have "dinner."
You might want to check out one of her earlier videos on how the writers specifically lie to cover up certain truths instead of dismissing all of the very well thought out proof in this video with one meager little quote from a man who is known for misleading his audience to surprise them.
Playing off of the food/sex metaphor, at about 5:25 when John exclaims "I'm not his date" only then does Sherlock move his own menu far away suggesting that he's not planning to eat. Sort of like :'If this was a date I'd eat' Also Angelo appears to know Sherlock pretty well and probably knows that he doesn't eat regularly so by offering them two menus he's expecting Sherlock to eat something so it must be a "special occasion" Just shooting off some ideas, I love that scene
I think you left out one very suggestive scene (although I haven't seen your other vids yet, maybe it's in one): When Sherlock is ripping off John's clothes at the swimming pool they are shown in a very specific angle. This scene could have shown in any other angle, too. But all you see is a man from behind on his knees in front of another - standing - man who has his head put back and his mouth open... yeah, sure. That's one of this 'accidents' lol :D
So I was watching a video of the Sherlock writers, benedict, John, and Mary, and the writers admitted that during the drunk scene, there was a part where they go to a gay bar. Unfortunately they decided to delete the scene. I wonder why!!!
well actually, it was because (from an editors view) there were two many shots of Sherlock and Watson at bars, and since they didn't want the joke to go on for too long, they deleted the footage. Purely an editors decision.
Another incredible video, probably my favorite one ever! I definitely think that there's no way around it; Sherlock is absolutely being written as a gay man. I understand that people want him to be asexual, but the fact that the writers included the bit about John knowing that Sherlock has impulses points to the fact that Sherlock does in fact have sexual desires, gay ones, for John in particular. I understand the desire for asexual representation, I do, but this is not that show. Sherlock Holmes has been gay for 130 years now; the only reason he was never shown to be interested in sex was because his sexuality was literally a punishable offense. I think that between all this evidence and the BBC Commission research about LGB content, everything points to this adaption being the first openly gay Sherlock Holmes, and honestly thank god. I love my gay son with all my heart.
I'm ace and I still completely agree, I think the coding is very obvious for him being a gay man, and I'm so happy the gay community will have such a great example of representation when this all plays out c:
I view Sherlock as homo-romantic and on the asexual spectrum. I myself am pan-romantic and demi-sexual. Asexuality is just a lack of attraction, and not all those on the spectrum are sex repulsed. So he can be on the asexual spectrum and not be sex repulsed. His sexual desires may just be desires unattached to a specific person, although they maybe attached to all men. As men are who he is romantically attracted to. His lack of sexual attraction does not negate his sexual desires. It was actually my mom who brought up the idea of an asexual Sherlock to me, as I'd brought up wanting to get a black ring (I was already out but didn't really want to talk about my asexuality with my mom). She made a reference to it being symbol of asexuality. When I asked how she knew that she said she'd read a lot of johnlock fics with an asexual Sherlock who wore a black ring. An asexual Sherlock would provide more asexual representation as the only asexual character I can think of is Charlie Weasley.
It’s fine. But it’s not in the show.” -Steven Moffat (creator of Sherlock)
@@kevinjohnson3715 It's actually known Steven Moffat lied a lot in the past about in the series. Noone should everything believe what he said. Even Sue Vertue said: " You are lying so often, Steven." These words in your comment are said by Steven Moffat in the video: "They lie" here on this channel.
i could say "what a wasted 46 minutes of my life" but if i say that i would lie THIS WAS THE BEST 46 MINUTES OF MY LIFE I HAVE NEVER LAUGHED OR SMILED FOR SOO LONG thank you for this amazingly amazing video u are the best ♥♥
The only point I would disagree on is the "I made me" line. I think he's referring to the fact that he's a sociopath. We know he's not, bit he wants us to believe he is because that's what he made himself to be or at least tried to. You don't make or choose your sexuality. You just are. And the choice of words in that scene makes it seem like is something Sherlock decided to be (The brain without a heart) not something he can't control.
I don't think Rebekah was saying Sherlock made himself gay when she refers to "I made me." She's just pointing out that being gay is an integral part of who he is which contributes to everything else that "made him" including all his fears/insecurities that keep him from embracing love.
+Leslie Shepherd But then why would Sherlock say "I made me" then? If she would've said that that's him staying away from his desires then I would understand, but she said that meant he IS gay, so it feels like he's saying he 'made' himself way which makes no sense at all
I agree. I read that line as him saying he made himself (seem) sociopathic and unfeeling because he was afraid to be his gay self. No one made him shut off to the world of love and sex but himself.
I really thought that this meant that he was "cutting off his feelings" by himself, that he himself was trying to be a pure logical creature, not a man of feelings and impulses.
"We live in a society that teaches us that being straight is the norm--the only norm--and that thinking that someone is gay, even when they give off every possible sign that they are, is rude or offensive somehow. But it isn't! And a lot opens up when you overcome that kind of thinking, even though it can admittedly be difficult to do." Senior quote!!!!
And he said himself analogous for a few years, that it can be possible that Sherlock only repressed his real sexuality and also that he avoid sex for a reason because it would get in the way of his work. The needs are there, he only repressed them. At no case he is an asexual man.
Also, many of us are really starting to sound like Anderson and the Sherlock Holmes fanclub lol, what with all the theories. I honestly believe those people are portraying us.
tbsfreak I think someone's made a post about how Moffat and Gatiss named s3e1 'the Empty Hearse' because it was the name of Sherlock's fan club after The Fall. A lot of fantheories/art are included in that episode, e.g. Sherlock with a mouthful of ciggies was a fanart.
this video is AMAZING i actually screamed when you pointed out how when sherlock is dying, in his mind palace he sees mary in a wedding dress who then shoots him because watching her marry john was just as painful as bleeding to death D: D: D: idk why i never made that connection!! fantastic
Read this connection: “We walk into that one all the time,” Moffat tells EW. It’s fine. But it’s not in the show.” -Steven Moffat
I recently watched the first episode (A Study in Pink) with my 60 year old mother. Her first comment - about half way through the episode - was: "So Sherlock is gay!?" She is awesome.
Looking back at this series I'm happy that representation has long past this. I'm happy we don't have to read into things hoping the show will be bold enough to do this. And in the end will be heartbroken and traumatized.
I have to point something out. Sherlock looking at John through the window in TBB is replicated almost shot for shot in Luke Cage ep1. In that context, Luke had just had sex with the woman he's staring at through the window. ROMANTIC TROPE!!! I can't believe nobody has picked up on that, yet. If I had the time and patience to put a GIF set together, I would. It's shot for shot, for god's sake! Can you please put together a GIF set of that on Tumblr. I just want the world to know :)
The abominable bride made Sherlock's sexuality undoubtedly clear! There is no other reason to create an episode like this other than that. Still people doubt TJLC, I don't get it at all.
Moffat said that Sherlock is not gay, and not straight either. So he must be asexual (or bi maybe) We don't doubt TJLC, it's just in contradiction with what Moffat had said about Sherlock's sexuality.
You know… As a demiromantic person (aro-spec) I was waiting for Sherlock to use words to explain himself when John was badgering him, but no, we get interrupted and it was never addressed like that again.
I love how queezy the episodes made me feel. I just finished Sherlock in two days and after watching your video I feel....impressed. It doesn't really matter WHAT you are talking about: to me, you express your thoughts and ideas in ways that rely on facts and cinematic content. You pick up on things the directors leave, clues, and if they are only a slightest true, the directors and screen-writers have decided to portray this Duo as a romantic coupling in some way. I just hope they don't leave it ambiguous in the fourth season. My favorite foreshadowing reflecting their emotions are: 1)Sherlock tells the Woman that fire brings out our priorities and in the next season he rescues John from a fire. 2)When Mrs.Hudson tells her story about her friend who left early from her wedding and the viewers understand that she was in love with Hudson's husband. "Who leaves early at a wedding?". Holmes leaves early at John's wedding... Now I am entirely convinced that throughout the seasons the directors and screen-writers are leaving clues to the audience, waiting for the big reaveal. BUT, I am still waiting to be convinced on John's emotions about this, other than jealousy expressed sometimes. You are great, keep doing what you are doing :)
Rebekah, I love this. Sherlock is so adorable. You did such an amazing job of explaining all the signs of why he's gay. Thanks for taking so much of your precious time to do all this.
have you guys noticed that in the episode that sherlock has to guess the password of irene's phone, the numbers that he pressed are john's credit card password??
I'm surprised you didn't mention the bit at the greenhouse when Sherlock says that Lady Carmichael has "admirably high arches" which was taken directly from TPLOSH which of course was wording that pretty explicitly coded him as gay. It's one of the most convincing things as of yet to me that he's definitely gay in this
my 65yo v. old fashioned dad sat through all of this last night, laughing and smiling along. TJLC is so important. And you do such a brilliant job with these videos. Whatever Moftiss may say about spoiling the surprise, I need to see how my parents react to 'hey, you know that show you like? Totally gay, always has been, is going from strength to gay strength, and once you acknowledge how gay it is it becomes so much more beautiful', so I can have more confidence going into the 'hey, you know that daughter you have?...' conversation. Continually amazed at your productivity too, don't know how you keep it up, but so glad you do :)
Me too! I only learned I was a lesbian over the last few months and Pulse knocked me hard, so baby steps. I have a really good relationship with my parents, they're just from a different generation, they're sympathetic but heteronormative. And they've come a long way already, but since I realised the right man was never going to come along and give me the easy way out... idk, I'm proud of who I am but it's still scary, I'm so glad of the LGBT community, it's like having family everywhere
'you see, but you do not observe' could never be more true for me at this moment, thank you for showing me even more ways that Sherlock is almost certainly Gay :3
Talking of the 'not you' scene, in the previous video you mentioned that Emilia Ricoletti is a Sherlock mirror, and she is introduced by a transition from Sherlock's fire for his pipe (phallic) to her gun (not necessarily phallic in her scene, but generally phallic in the show), shoots at mainly men (if my memory serves me right), before turning the gun (phallic) on herself. She also shouts 'you' at a bunch of men (if my memory serves me right), in contrast to Sherlock's 'not you' to a bunch of women. If this reading is correct then, seriously, Sherlock is just a giant gay baby all along
Someone might have already noticed this(it might even be in your ASIB video, i can't remember), but I really think the scene with Irene and Sherlock in front of the fireplace is actually more frustrated than anything. she's obviously referring to sex when she asks about dinner, straight sex, and when he replies, he almost sounds angry, like he's trying to be polite but it's getting hard because she won't listen. he even annunciates it slowly. he's literally telling her, why would I want to have sex with you if I don't feel that way about you? that's what I got from the scene, at least
I think you could have pointed out more, when Moriaty says "Why don't you just elope together" that it is Sherlock who thinks that. So that actually it is Sherlock who wants to elope with John :)
I love the phrase 'confirmed bachelor' - an old coded reference for being gay. Stephen Colbert, Amy Sedaris, and Paul Dinello used it several times with the character of Geoffrey Jellineck in 'Strangers With Candy.'
I don't think Sherlock was oblivious to Molly's attraction to him, he can deduce anyone, he just didn't want to explain why he was not interested in Molly, or he didn't want to hurt her as she can be particularly useful for his work purposes. Many women have flirted with Sherlock and he has showed no interest except when he wanted to break into Magnussen's office
Yes, but also here nothing happened between them, Sherlock was at no point seriously interested in Janine, and even she knew what kind of man Sherlock is, not interested in women.
I was hoping I wasn't the only one who thought this! His expression (at about 1:55-1:56 in this clip) tells me that he absolutely noticed Molly was flirting and decided the best way to deal with it would be to act oblivious on purpose. (Just to be clear, that's not to say he's straight. I personally read him as demisexual and biromantic leaning toward a preference for men or homoromantic.)
The subtle changes in your background with every topic is so funny. The Sherlock figurine standing beside rainbow. :-D. This is your best video so far. It really establishes something which is already a fact. It is obvious from every perspective that Sherlock cannot be straight. And we know that the writers and actors are not stupid to scatter plenty of signals around without any purpose. One thing I should mention here. When I strated reading the original ACD Sherlock, I picked up so many hints that the relationship between Sherlock and John is much more than a friendship, and you actually cleared the confusion by your videos. I am so happy after all these years that I wasn't wrong. So your videos are totally on point. Keep up the good work. xoxo
I am new to Sherlock (have binge watched all 3 series in the past two days), and I cannot express how lovely these videos are! You are wonderfully articulate and concise in your arguments, which fuel my hope for John and Sherlock's s4 connection. Cheers!
Your explanation of the scene between John, Sherlock and Moriarty at the end of TAB made me cry because Johnlock is so real and your theory of that concret scene seems so logic and that makes me very happy. And I agree with Moriarty, they should elope.
You know it’s been like 5 years since the show ended and I am STILL not over how they decided to end it. 🙃 I will be 50 years old and still will not be over JohnLock not being endgame.
The past few days since I discovered this channel have been an endless cycle of: watch a bunch of TJLC Explained, get excited, watch an episode of Sherlock, freak out because what Rebekah says is actually there, try and calm myself down, watch more TJLC . . . This however, is maybe my favorite video so far. I love doing characterization breakdowns, and looking at acting/directing choices made during filming that inform the way we view a character in the finished projected, so a lot of what Rebekah pointed out I'd already noticed and cocked my head at a little. It was also very apropos because I've been doing some research on coding (whether queer coding or other forms of coding due to censorship) and I've been finding the use of queer coding on Sherlock to set up the idea that Sherlock and John are mid-romance fascinating. Keep up the good work!
I believe It is to do with the fact that during WW2 Hitler would have gay people wear pink triangles to signify their sexuality to the public. Because of this pink gradually became seen as a more feminine colour even though it was previously primarily worn by baby boys (girls were often seen wearing blue) and was seen as a strong masculine colour. Rebekah didn't mean it in a stereotypical way that "only gay men like pink" but in historical context it is relevant. I may have some inaccuracies in here but I'm almost certain that is the context we should be seeing from. I believe Rebekah may have touched on this in a previous video but I can't be sure.
OMG same here. My mom and I started picking up on the Johnlock during the 1st episode, but we thought that we might have been imagining it. Glad to know other people see it too.
Also when Janine said "just once would have been nice" and Sherlock replied "Oh. Was waiting until we got married." i mean.. whatever, i don't get why people get so butthurt at the idea of Sherlock being gay but not asexual. He's clearly in love with John and has 0 interest in women so what more do you need? Your videos are amazing btw! xx
Hello! I have watched almost all of your videos now. You are very charming and your theories and explanations are very reasonable 😘 I wanted to share my idea of Moriarty being a symbol for Sherlock's human emotions/romantic feelings. The most obvious scene that supports my idea is in TAB when Sherlock asks Moriarty how he can still be alive with his brain blown up (read: without using his sole rationality) and furthermore, when Mycroft looks at the painting of Reichenbach , he whispers he is afraid that Sherlock will wait for Moriarty (his human emotions to come back, as we know Mycroft is very scared of Sherlock getting too involved) John on the other hand symbolises that Sherlock's rationality and himself (who represents human emotions too) can be together without having to fight. With Moriarty its either brain vs. feelings. He symbolises that those two things arent compatible with Sherlock. Whereas with John its brain AND feelings. He symbolises that there is a place for sherlock to be sentimental but still be himself. The waterfall scene in TAB showed that real well. What do you think about my theory?
I love this channel. All throughout my sherlockian days I listened to the in-depth analyses and conclusions I’ve made while using these facts and theories made during these episodes
I came here as an anti-johnlock shipper. 4 minutes in; my immediate thought is "shit"
enjoy~

Also, he gained the weight between seasons 1 and 2, and did Star Trek between seasons 2 and 3
I'm convinced that for over 2 years Sherlock's prepared opening line to John was going to be 'I'm not dead. Let's have dinner' which would have told John everything he needed to know. It also makes the short version "Not dead" even more poignant.
I'm watching this after season four, and everything still stands. I stand by everything you did and I would just like to say that you were right (which you must know) despite the stuff that went down. so thank you for everything.

“We walk into that one all the time,”
Moffat tells EW. “It’s a funny thing when a character for over 100
years has been saying, ‘I don’t do that at all.’ He’s been
saying it over 100 years! He’s not interested in [sex]. He’s willfully
staying away from that to keep his brain pure-a Victorian belief, that.
But everyone wants to believe he’s gay. He’s not gay. He’s not straight.
And Doctor Watson is very clear that he prefers women. People want to
fantasize about it. It’s fine. But it’s not in the show.”
"We aren't going to explore Sherlock's childhood/family life!!"
*season 3 happens*
"TAB will be a stand alone episode!!!"
*actually drug induced fever dream after tarmac scene*
"Moriarty is DEFINITELY DEAD!!!"
*trailer + setlock says otherwise*
and the piece de resistance:
Moffat + Gatiss: WE ARE HUGE LIARS LIKE HONESTLY HOW MANY TIMES DOES THIS NEED TO BE STATED
That's right. I agree with you!
When I started watching this video I was like almost a bit irritated at how sure you were of your theory, but JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I am convinced.
Mrs Hudson ships Johnlock more xD
@@ziripond3502 Yes, and of course she is right, because she is the queen of this ship. She knows.
I usually like to think of Sherlock as either asexual or demisexual, but I firmly believe in the fact that he is homoromantic.
fuck I watched all this in the show but I didn't _see_ all this, you know what I mean?
this is amazing, truly overwhelming evidence..it's so accurate it's almost impossible to deny at this point.
superknight you said yourself that he wants to keep himself away from sexual thoughts to keep himself together, not that he actually is.
That been said, I don't mean to belittle asexuals and asexuality. It just seems pretty clear to me that this fictional character isnt (and I think her videos do a good job proving this).
superknight I mean..the creators have said many different things, I dont even know anymore
oh, the creator lie alot.
And there are total of 16 sexual and romantic orientation so we cannot speculate within small boxes based on BBC show .
lol john says "not really my area" when waiter sherlock talks about the wine menu. just like sherlock said when john asked about girlfriend's lol!
Brilliant deduction! :>
I didn’t even notice that before!
i dont think sherlock ever was in love with irene, he was just so frustrated at why he couldnt read her, because well, he could always read everyone, and felt he was falling apart because it was his first he couldnt read, and he saved her life because he HAD TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO READ HER OR IT WOULD HAUNT HIM FOREVER.
And now, the video we have all been waiting for...
SHEEERRLLLLOOOCCKKKK IS GAYYYYYYYY. ❤️
FINALLLLYYYYYYYYY
You might want to check out one of her earlier videos on how the writers specifically lie to cover up certain truths instead of dismissing all of the very well thought out proof in this video with one meager little quote from a man who is known for misleading his audience to surprise them.
Playing off of the food/sex metaphor, at about 5:25 when John exclaims "I'm not his date" only then does Sherlock move his own menu far away suggesting that he's not planning to eat. Sort of like :'If this was a date I'd eat' Also Angelo appears to know Sherlock pretty well and probably knows that he doesn't eat regularly so by offering them two menus he's expecting Sherlock to eat something so it must be a "special occasion"
Just shooting off some ideas, I love that scene
My co-worker is going to write a thesis proving that Sherlock is gay and always has been since the 19th century.
+Rachel Schindler your reading of Sherlock is as correct as everyone else's can be! I myself too see him as being on the ace-spectrum

@@kevinjohnson3715 It's actually known Steven Moffat lied a lot in the past about in the series. Noone should everything believe what he said.
Even Sue Vertue said: " You are lying so often, Steven."
These words in your comment are said by Steven Moffat in the video: "They lie" here on this channel.
i could say "what a wasted 46 minutes of my life" but if i say that i would lie
THIS WAS THE BEST 46 MINUTES OF MY LIFE I HAVE NEVER LAUGHED OR SMILED FOR SOO LONG
thank you for this amazingly amazing video u are the best ♥♥
*there must be a THIS MUCH part but i forgot it :D
I know right! I normally can't even watch a 10 minute length video BUT THIS RIGHT HERE
So true! 😁
Why i havent found this channel earlier?? 💕
Same! I didn't even realize it was 46 minutes until I finished the video!
'THIS IS REALLY GAY!!'
best summary there is, exquisite
I shipped Johnlock before I watched this video, but now... I shIP IT EVEN MORE HOLY SHIT, now that 's what I call the mind of Sherlock.
So, according to this theory, Ben has acted as a gay man trying to hide his sexuality TWICE
And he said himself analogous for a few years, that it can be possible that Sherlock only repressed his real sexuality and also that he avoid sex for a reason because it would get in the way of his work. The needs are there, he only repressed them.
At no case he is an asexual man.
6 years later:
- Tinker Taylor soldier spy
- Sherlock
- Power of the dog
- Imitation game (kinda closeted?)
- The turning point (theatre)
Also, many of us are really starting to sound like Anderson and the Sherlock Holmes fanclub lol, what with all the theories. I honestly believe those people are portraying us.
hell yeah
they're more portraying sherlock/moriarty and sherlock/molly fans because.. those are the theories anderson and other fans support in the show
tbsfreak I think someone's made a post about how Moffat and Gatiss named s3e1 'the Empty Hearse' because it was the name of Sherlock's fan club after The Fall. A lot of fantheories/art are included in that episode, e.g. Sherlock with a mouthful of ciggies was a fanart.
this video is AMAZING i actually screamed when you pointed out how when sherlock is dying, in his mind palace he sees mary in a wedding dress who then shoots him because watching her marry john was just as painful as bleeding to death D: D: D:
idk why i never made that connection!! fantastic

I know right!!!
I recently watched the first episode (A Study in Pink) with my 60 year old mother. Her first comment - about half way through the episode - was: "So Sherlock is gay!?"
She is awesome.
Looking back at this series I'm happy that representation has long past this. I'm happy we don't have to read into things hoping the show will be bold enough to do this. And in the end will be heartbroken and traumatized.
i lov my gay so n
he is a mini rainbow muffin
Love the nickname
+Brianna Ondryas my friends think I'm insane when I scream "Look at my effing rainbow baby child" every single time I see him
+Leigh Bartley ME 😂😂
I have to point something out.
Nice!
she did a video about romantic tropes, some weeks ago. Really funny :D
"He becomes the human embodiment of a swish." You're amazing.
i didn't notice the rainbows in the scenes! thank you for pointing them out!
30:01 evidence that bottomlock is canon
of course he is :D
46 minutes of Sherlock sexuality theory this is what I'm living for
Whatching this in 2022 makes me weep that we are in a possibbly endless hiatus and definitely did not get our canon johnlock ending :(
The abominable bride made Sherlock's sexuality undoubtedly clear!
IOweyoUSoMuch77 Moffat lies. It's his most well known trait. He even says he lies on purpose to trick the audience
@@katkruger9443 Yes, and Moffat lies all the time. It's like his mission. The proof is here on this channel in an own video.
You know… As a demiromantic person (aro-spec) I was waiting for Sherlock to use words to explain himself when John was badgering him, but no, we get interrupted and it was never addressed like that again.
What does TJ LC stand for
Do people ACTUALLY think he's straight??
It's one of the most convincing things as of yet to me that he's definitely gay in this
I just realized that the song in the background of the stag night club scene is "We Found Love"!
my 65yo v. old fashioned dad sat through all of this last night, laughing and smiling along.
So that actually it is Sherlock who wants to elope with John :)
the fact that he paused and looked at John when John asked if he had a bf 😂
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed how Sherlock barely reacted to his kiss with the girl.
"set the record straight" was an incredible play on words
the GAYme is on
Also, how Ben played Alan Turing, a known gay man, reminded me a lot of Sherlock, and not only because they are both extremely smart
The best 46 minutes of my life
I love the phrase 'confirmed bachelor' - an old coded reference for being gay. Stephen Colbert, Amy Sedaris, and Paul Dinello used it several times with the character of Geoffrey Jellineck in 'Strangers With Candy.'
Confirmed bachelor is literally 20th century slang for gay
was... was setting the thumbnail as that scene necessary.....
Yes.
Yes.
yes
Obviously.
Actually Jon, it was *VERY* necessary
John and Sherlock are a couple, it's so obvious but most people can't see it just because they are both men.
"Who cares about Decent.....the GAYm, Mrs Hudson is on!"
Daisy Coombs for fuvks sake
The way it's 2021 and I'm back on this xD
One of the co-creators is gay too...👀
I don't think Sherlock was oblivious to Molly's attraction to him, he can deduce anyone, he just didn't want to explain why he was not interested in Molly, or he didn't want to hurt her as she can be particularly useful for his work purposes.
The captioning on this series is excellent and much appreciated.
I watch this to cheer me up
he doesn't know the solar system but a guy just walks into a room and he goes
oh that's some typical gay underwear
Keep up the good work. xoxo
Just realized when John is ordering wine he says 'not really my area' to the first suggestion, then when Sherlock recommends one he picks that.... hmm
Sherlock is Johnsexual.
John is straight with one exception.
just had to pause this at "human embodiment of a swish" 😂😂 I need this on a t shirt
its stuff like this that makes me 100% convinced that s4 was a nightmare & none of it is real
"Now THIS is my area." Actually same.
OKOK I knew half of these details but the EUPHANISM??? I was already CERTAIN that at least sherlock IS GAY but now I am more than certain.
"Wasn't working for me" said Molly and John... because Sherlock
🙃 I will be 50 years old and still will not be over JohnLock not being endgame.
this video is enough validation for me that john and sherlock's relationship isn't just "platonic". thank you.
this is a freaking love story
your eyes are so hypnotic???? wtf?????
Okay, I'm just asking but what has the color pink to do with being gay?
I believe It is to do with the fact that during WW2 Hitler would have gay people wear pink triangles to signify their sexuality to the public. Because of this pink gradually became seen as a more feminine colour even though it was previously primarily worn by baby boys (girls were often seen wearing blue) and was seen as a strong masculine colour. Rebekah didn't mean it in a stereotypical way that "only gay men like pink" but in historical context it is relevant. I may have some inaccuracies in here but I'm almost certain that is the context we should be seeing from. I believe Rebekah may have touched on this in a previous video but I can't be sure.
it's also kinda confirmed. Benedict Cumberbatch made some not so subtle hints in an interview saying that Sherlock was gay
after seeing the sherlock 2016 comiccon panel confirms this and I'm so happyyyy
also are we going to gloss over sherlock having dream molly call sherlock john's "daddy" like oml
superknight the creators lie all the time, are you really THAT dumb to believe what they say.
@@itsgracie5736 Yes I agree. They are lying every time when they open their mouths, it's like their mission.
I watched Sherlock with my mom
and now I'm trying to introduce her to TJLC.
OMG same here. My mom and I started picking up on the Johnlock during the 1st episode, but we thought that we might have been imagining it. Glad to know other people see it too.
The video would've been shorter just with the unaired pilot under examination XD (i know that it isn't canon, but it's so clear there...)
Your videos are amazing btw! xx
Full of flutterflies in my tummy about this Gay ship that I rolled my eyes at three weeks ago... Well done, you lovely soul.
Ahhh 'his imagined future represents a time when they can be free to be together without fear' Someone hold me I'm emotional.
I love this channel. All throughout my sherlockian days I listened to the in-depth analyses and conclusions I’ve made while using these facts and theories made during these episodes
Im starting to see some antis in the comment section....
The game is on....
