There's a lot of dances that I always think are 'typical Maddie dances', but this one for some reason is so different to me. I absolutely love it. I think it's been her best solo this season!

This is the reason Maddie is Abby’s favourite. She has it all: technique, emotion, good turns, flexibility, strength and amazing tricks.
there was no correct technique displayed in this solo, it was so sloppy and messy are you on drugs? also cant believe someone in 2019 still can watch this and think it's great. deluded maddie stans are a thing of the past.

Over a year and a half since this was performed but Birthday is still my all time favorite solo Maddie has done. Everything just went so well together in this dance.

Im going to be completely honest, this is my opinion, and i think NO other girl on aldc could pull off anything like this. I know this isnt everyones forte, but Maddie can do things and touch people like the other girls cant. Im not saying they are bad or anything like that, the other girls are amazing and they could certainly put up a performance similar in future but for me, my eyes go to Maddie in every dance shes in. Especially a dance like this. Shes not perfect but she does each solo with such grace, with amazing technqiue, flexibility and 'tricks', that when she makes a mistake you cant even tell.

Charlize Smith Sophia may be better "technically", but when it comes to ALL the intangibles, emotion, and connection with an audience, NOBODY beats Maddie.
Cryo837 Sophia and Maddie against each other would be interesting. I like both of their dancing, but I thing performance is the second best thing in a dance, and Maddie pulls that off so well because she has the passion for dance. Sophia doesn't really have emotion, she just dances. Maddie is one of the few dancers that shows emotion that well. After all the has the "Maddie face" :)
I think Maddie was crying at the end of the dance, like Abby said. I don't know why, but I hope it was because either she was showing emotion, or proud of herself. Truly am amazing dance by Maddie, better than any one yet.
It's probably because she really became the character that she was dancing as. It's not unusual for most dancers to be this way, especially during a rather emotional piece

This is such a big improvement, facials were great; off the chart technique! Those turns, I couldn't get enough of. I'm not a big Maddie fan, I'll admit I like Chloe more, but both are great at what they do and Maddie can not be denied that she did beautiful at this competition. Had she not won, I bet she would have still been at the top of the pyramid. She danced fabulously. Anyone know her score? Deserves 290+

I Don't like maddie either, But nobody can deny that this solo is beautiful.
She just makes me feel happy when she dances, and you can't ask for more than that. I'm moving in my chair as she dances because she makes me want to do dance more than I do already. And if she was actually crying at the end, it shows how well she's learnt to use her emotion. What a brilliant girl.
I could watch this dance forever, it gives me so much pride, Maddie did not know how Qualde her dance is pure magic: facial expression, technique, emotion, passion for dance, was ALL MORE THAN PERFECT, it was wonderful! so I'm #TeamMaddie forever and ever!No one can do this solo better than Maddie

This is my favorite Maddie solo because it is so different than the others. Her turns looked were so graceful and beautiful. Her emotion execution was amazing. Her leaps were absolutely flawless. This performance was completely breathtaking. She is so talented. ♡

agreed!!! and the part when they told maddie that she wasnt 'finishing her steps' was probably only scripted for the show because maddie was actually the one who received the full scholarship to joffrey ballet. the show also scripted that chloe was the only one who got it.
susanna lung Chloe won the full scholarship, Maddie got a half scholarship. But none of the girls could attend because they were filming for the show.
Maddie is a breathe of fresh air. She is so beautiful and graceful. She always tells the story and does great with her technique. Beautiful straight legs, pointed feet, and more is what she has.

she used so many facials in this: happy, sad, overwhelmed, pain, excited, normal, and uses others in the group dance like evil, sassy, etc. her solo "Maddie" jazz or musical theatre won 1st at an unaired comp! ALL the girls get similar choreography, Maddie just gets similar songs so it is more obvious.
DId you even watch Nia's piece? She had two front aerials!! Those are VERY hard. Side aerials are hard too but front definitely beat it. If you saw Nia's piece, you'd notice that she had an aerial connected to her turns. Maddie does the SAME exact dance just her sequences are shifted around. A, she's dancing a very popular genre that the judges like, and B, Abbey puts long turn combinations because that's basically all Maddie can do. Maddie doesn't have emotion. She uses the same face over and over. Her turns are good but they need some control to them. And actually, look at Kendall's routines, they all get very different choreography
Lynndyn Heehee considering i just listed multiple facials she used in that dance and others, your point isn't coming across. maddie can do front aerials which we see too which you say are VERY hard. nia is not at maddie's level, nor is kendall so their choreography consists of similar things with some new things until abby finds things to put in that they can win with or she changes them. they are not consistent with their choreography like maddie, so abby changes it to find one to win with. they're all similar but mixed at times. maddie has a lot of artistry mixed with tricks in her dances. maddie is the best at facials on STAGE because the other girls' emotion will be washed out if you are towards the back of an audience, maddie's won't because they are big. and there IS a range. did you not see that solo "Maddie" because she did sassy ones. group number, Sinful, she did evil. she doesn't get evil solos because abby saves those for chloe to give her something special. im not saying maddie doesn't have similar solos, im saying she already knows the hard stuff like different leaps, turns, and aerials and wins so there is no point for abby to change it. i want her to as well, but abby is for the win, not variety, which i hate but maddie's talent shows in the group dances too not just solos.
Lynndyn Heehee Maddie does front aerials in practically every solo and nails them. and I agree with the other girl, Maddie does use tons of facials, it's just the solo that is similar, but she has so much variety in her solos with choreography already: different types of leaps, side aerials, front aerials, knee drops, turns, ballet moves, artistry, etc.
But it's the same choreography…. every sing TIME! This is Maddie's strong suit. I'd like to see Maddie do something that is DIFFERENT for a change. When Chloe gets a solo, usually they are like Maddie's but when Abbey is mad at Chloe's mom, she makes Chloe's solos even harder and less likable. (Or when abbey is mad at Chloe). Chloe can play, the "rocker" the black swan, the "jealous" girl. Maddie can only play "Oh I'm so sweet and innocent. Or I'm just a cutesy dancer". And if you look at Nia's solo this week, Nia got some harder moves, and Nia isn't that type of dancer. It's like Abbey is setting the other kids out to fail SO that Maddie can win! >:(
Lynndyn Heehee she's done dark and mysterious in a few of her solos, the really dark ones are for chloe though because of the ratings fans like it. i DO agree that Abby gives Maddie the same type of solo and i'd like to see different ones too like when she did looking for a place called home, reflections, uphill battle, quiet voices, the jazz solo Maddie which was competed and won at an unaired comp etc. my first comment was saying how she does have a variety of facial expressions in her solos and even more can be seen in the groups numbers.
