Tipper survived (not a spoiler as he doesn’t make a further appearance); he was medically evacuated. He lost an eye and walked with a cane the rest of his life; became a schoolteacher in Colorado. He married late in life & fathered a daughter when he was nearly 70 (Curahee!). He was one of the veterans at the beginning of the episode, and lived well into his 90s.
Airborne veterans recalled that their orders for D-Day included not taking German prisoners because to accomplish their objectives they could not spare men to be taken out of combat to guard them. Spiers killed five, according to a private with Spiers. Spiers commanded a platoon in D Company. The sergeant was drunk, disobeyed a direct order, and leveled his rifle at Spiers, who shot him in self defense. There were numerous eye witnesses.
@MadAnthonyI.... Absolutely. Hysterical Blindness is simply a psychiatric dissociative disorder caused by high-stress, anxiety, or psychological triggers. I can't think of many more things that are as high stress and anxiety-ridden as war.
thanks for the great reaction! There are so many great episodes coming up for you with BoB. I won't be the spoiler but will simply say God Bless these men. ..and I am including our Allied forces too... all of these guys sacrificed, at the minimum, their youth for other people from other countries so that they could grow and live in freedom. Many gave their lives. About 10 years ago I took my son from the USA to visit the Normandy battlefields and our tour took us to all of Easy Companies battles. In France, the school children at Juno Beach in Normandy are still taught the Canadian National anthem in honor of the Canadian men who liberated that area. Some of the actions of the British airborne are simply legendary; see Pegasus Bridge. We visited the graves...there are nearly 10,000 US men buried at Normandy. The grounds are meticulously maintained and the silence there brought me to tears seeing all of those crosses...The French gave the cemetery grounds to the US in perpetuity, forever, so that these men can be considered buried on US soil. We visited the British cemetery and the UK allowed the family to leave an inscription on the headstone. One British mother simply wrote on her son's stone "Maybe some day I will understand". To this day that still brings tears to my eyes because her pain still comes through almost 80 years later. I am a parent and the sacrifice made by all was so great. God Bless them all.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us! We hope one day to visit the resting place of these wonderful men in Normandy! The sacrifices were so great! Bless them all! ❤️
After my great-uncle's B-24 crashed into the Adriatic Sea in 1944 and was listed MIA (KIA, ultimately), the crew members' wives and mothers exchanged many letters, of which I have copies. The scene where Malarkey picks up the cleaned laundry for wounded and killed soldiers reminds me of a crew member's mother who wrote how she dreaded receiving her son's uniform(s) and personal items. The laundry scene is heartbreaking on many levels.
I'm glad this series and the emotions it invokes hits you guys solidly. For us americans, this series is a true to life gutsy reality of the greatest generation of americans ever. We honor them and hold them in high regard
Hysterical blindness would now be known as a functional neurological disorder. Usually brought on by some external stress (in this case an obvious one) a person can have some normal functions shut down. This can be a few things, fainting, blindness, speech, balance… It is different to PTSD in that it usually happens as the stress is occurring, as opposed to subsequently (post). Often it passes quite quickly once the stress is removed, but that is not always the case. Blithe needed some help, Winters and the Doc gave him enough to get going again.
One of your comments at the beginning really stuck out to me, that you can’t test your resolve to fear until you are really in it. No one knows how they are gonna react when things go bad unless they’ve been in that situation before. Good training is so important in this regard, the hope is that when troops are faced with this fear, their training instincts kick in, and there is less thinking involved. You can simulate it a hundred times to make it easier, but it will never be the real thing.
Enjoying your reactions! It may helpful to file away that Capt Nixon is an intelligence officer, often working thru the night to provide updates/reports on troop movements and info coming up and down the chain. It explains why he’s not in the thick of battle but observing with some of the higher ups like Maj. Strayer.
Hysterical blindness--now called conversion disorder--is indeed a valid medical condition that can be brought on by fear or stress, among other "triggers." Blithe did not die in 1948. The veterans of the war thought he had died, since he was not present at reunions and no one was in contact with him. They just assumed he had died, based on the severity of his wound. In fact, he later served in the Korean War with the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team, being awarded the Silver Star for Valor, the third highest award for valor. He was also awarded a Bronze Star for Valor. Years later he served with Military Assistance Command in Taiwan. Rising to the rank of master sergeant, he was later serving in Germany in the 1960s when he was hospitalized and died from a perforated ulcer on Dec 17, 1967. He had just returned, ironically, from a memorial event in Bastogne.
Just an FYI since you already know Blithe survived… he was indeed shot by a sniper in Normandy, but the actual shot hit him in the shoulder and broke his clavicle. He did spend a considerable amount of time in the hospital recovering.
@Reactsandgames He also went on to fight in the Korean war. He seemed to have become more used to combat, because he even jumped behind enemy lines and still fought while surrounded by a Chinese battalion
One of my favorites! Lots of cameos. Marc Maron "Lock the Gates" Mitch Hedgeberg, David Bowie, Jann Wenner in the Cab....all sorts. Phillip Seymour Hoffman steals the show as Lester Bangs. Creem vs Rolling Stone. Eion Bailey from Band of Brothers as Jann Wenner, Rainn Wilson as Hunter S. Thompson (You need to watch Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.) "Ask me again" a great foul up but left in the cut. Love it!
17:45 Fair to say ones immediate instinct when seeing a tank roll up on you would be to run but by breaking and running they actually may have put themselves in greater danger as now they were completely exposed. On top of that and the reason I think Col Strayer was upset, was by fleeing they left Easy company with their left flank exposed. If the Germans realized this they could push through and attack Easy to the side and rear.
Liam, the Germans weren't using tanks in the battle. They were using Assault Guns. The difference between a Tank and an Assault Gun is the Tank has a turret that rotates 360° while an Assault Gun's main weapon is fixed horizontally and can only move vertically. Assault Guns also have much thinner armor. If the Germans had Tiger, Panther, or even Mark 4 tanks they wouldn't have withdrawn, they would have fought and probably taken the American Sherman Tanks out. The Assault Guns stood zero chance against the Sherman Tanks. Tank Destroyers, like assault gun do not have revolving turrets. The difference between a tank destroyer and an assault gun is the velocity and degree of high explosive between the two. A tank destroyer fires a high velocity armor piercing shell designed to kill the crew or disable the enemy in some way. An assault gun used lower velocity high explosive ammunition. The gun barrel is shorter on the assault gun.
Thanks for the reaction. The German paratroopers and the SS had camouflage raincoats, the US Army didnt, US Marines did but they were deployed to the Pacific. At the start of the episode when they walked into the town, a soldier showed a Nazi flag he had acquired, just behind him was Sgt Talbot showing his German Paratrooper camouflage raincoat. Later on in the hedge groves Sgt Talbot went to wake up Smith for guard duty wearing the raincoat, Smith woke up and saw the camo raincoat thinking it was a German, he then bayoneted the "German" Sgt Talbot.
When you are finished with Band of Brothers, I would love for you to react to We Were Soldiers Once. This is a real battle in Vietnam and told by two that were there. Keep up the good work.
I enjoyed your reactions to this episode! Looking forward to the remaining ones. Best of wishes to you both for the success of your channel When time permits after BoB I hope you will consider reacting to the mini series Chernobyl and Shogun if you have not already seen them.
Absolutely fantastic reaction, guys. Thank you for sharing. Was just curious if you guys were familiar with Marc Warren, the English actor, that played Albert Blithe? I am only familiar with him from this show, his part in the US series, *The Good Wife* and the British series *Van der Valk* . Excellent actor, obviously! Steph’s Christmas jumper is adorable. Hope she’s feeling much better by now. Thanks again & already anticipating your next video. All the best for you in 2025. Cheers!
Thank you so much for watching! Steph has just finished watching a series on Netflix called ‘missing you’ and Marc was in that! He is a really great actor! Thank you again for your support! ☺️
Not everyone can be heroic 100% of the time. Maybe, that is the point of Blythe in this series. The real Albert Blythe was shot in the shoulder and received medals for bravery in the Korean War.
@justsmashing4628 but it does spoil stuff the show first few episodes make u think spiers isn't the best guy and on episode 3 u say oh u will pve spiers that tells people oh he is going to be great . He could be a German sympathizer undercover for all they know it's just nit smart to give people heads up what a character arch will lead them to loving them
Come on mate that is way too long of a time between episodes. He's going to lose a lot of people watching and momentum. Because we forget how y'all reacted and remembered things so the reaction isn't as good usually. Not really complaining I'm saying it because I really like y'all
Dude, tanks are over rated. Not just by you, everyone, even them at first. ruclips.net/video/taHFUKKKmJM/видео.htmlsi=88KitHMIrDHfliKn 13:24 training film on facing tank Oh, if I hadn't told you, minor spoiler, have a blanket in studio. 1 future episode- I won't say which- can make the suggestable feel cold. He married late in life & fathered a daughter when he was nearly 70 (Curahee!). He was one of the veterans at the beginning of the episode, and lived well into his 90s.
Ironically, he was the one who said he thought he would either have a quick death or make it through without a scratch.
Thank you for telling us! ☺️
Here for the obligatory private Blithe didn’t die at the end of the episode 😅 yeah, he even went to serve in the Korean War

Wow! Thank you for sharing!
Hysterical Blindness is a real thing.
Talbert put on a German paratrooper's rain coat so he looked like German.
@MadAnthonyI.... Absolutely. Hysterical Blindness is simply a psychiatric dissociative disorder caused by high-stress, anxiety, or psychological triggers. I can't think of many more things that are as high stress and anxiety-ridden as war.

Blame Chrimbo!
Sorry Steph being poorly and Christmas has delayed us but we are back to it now! ☺️
I really enjoy your reactions. I love the low-key approach and wish you many years of success.
Thank you so much for your comment! ☺️
I love Steph's reaction, she doesn't say a lot, but her expressions are worth a thousand words.
Thank you so much for your kind comment. ❤️☺️
It may look rough but Speirs is right when he talks to Blithe .... war is hell.
Blithe's story here reminds me of Upham's in Saving Private Ryan. Managing fear in the face of war. Can't even begin to imagine.
Bless them both! We couldn’t imagine either!
Loved this reaction, can’t wait for the rest ❤
Thank you so much for watching! We have just watched 4 & 5 so they will be on here soon! ☺️

Both of you seem to have watched a lot of films/shows about war lately. I would suggest U-571 (2000) and Enemy at the Gates (2001)
Thank you! ☺️
@Reactsandgamesthose are great suggestions!

My favorite episode. Carentan is so important, they had to fight to the last man if necessary. See it all.

@Reactsandgames Thank you.
24:08 continuity error. They already were in England.
I see it more as the troops are going to be redeployed soon so they can't go on furlough/leave into England.
