    We did this for a female cat in our neighborhood. She had liter after liter. When we brought her back she sat in the street crying, she could not understand how to relax and that all the males were not chasing her. We went and sat with her for hours and finally got her on my porch at 3am. It took 9 days for her to stopped and finally relax. She is now 17.

    I have a former TNR cat. She was very skittish and afraid of people. She was returned because they said she was too feral & unadoptable. Very slowly, she acclimated to us & our dogs (Shih Tzu) since we always took them with us when we fed her & another feral cat. The other cat kept evicting her from the boxes we put down. So she was always hunkering on a low branch of a bush. At one point in February 2016, the temperature was going down below zero so we brought down my male dog's crate (she really liked him & would lay her head on his thigh when we would sit on the bench), put food in front of the door. As she ate, I pushed the plate further in until she was in & I was able to close the door. We brought her upstairs & planned to return her to the courtyard after the winter. When she heard the snowblower & shovels scraping she would run as far from the window as possible. She was terrified of thunder. We knew then that she had been living in fear outside & decided to keep her since she got along with our dogs. It's been 5 years & she's been the best cat ever!!!

    Saving feral cats is possible with a lot of patience, love and understanding, my two little treasures were totally feral and an association gave them to me when I was a foster home because I'm disabled so I'm all the time at home and able to work with them. It took 2y for the male to transform into a big baby who loves to cuddle and 5y for the female but since 7 months now she loves mommy's arms and love the attention and affection, her fears disappeared 😊 Their traumas still create some problems like nightmares, PICA, anxiety markings or anxiety crisis but nothing like it used to be and they feel better at each passing day. If you have the patience and the material means to do it, please, help taming feral cats guys.

    I find it useful that once taken care of it is worthwhile for a week or 2 to get these feral cats more or less tame before release. At least used to a human touch. Yes, it is much work to accomplish this. But makes life outside easier for the cat and you. Besides, we have had some we released and "handable" that others have decided on adopting, simply because they weren't so afraid of humans.

    My two Tom's were born to feral mothers in big colonies. When I went to pick up the kittens I brought 4 traps and talked to a clinic that agreed to Tuesdays for very low cost spay and neuter and rabies shots then he and I took 8 cats to the clinic. That got it started for him. He had well over 100 cats between two colonies. It has taken him 2 years but I believe they are all sterilized now. Also all kittens have homes the rest will live out their lives on familiar ground he can care for them and let them dwindle down. It's sad but much better.

    I understand there aren't enough people to adopt, I think there has to be a better way to save feral cats.
    Sure kittens can be tamed with the right amount of love & patience , but adult cats can be turned around too. I know because i did it.

    Thanks for doing this though ☺️

    • @geeperjane
      @geeperjane 2 года назад

      Agreed. People dont like euthanizing healthy cats which I can understand, but euthanasia is a painless alternative to what cats experience on the streets. We shouldnt treat cats differently from any other invasive species. Stray cats should be euthanaized so they dont suffer slow painful deaths on the streets from disease, poison, cars, predators, people, etc. Euthanasia will also prevent the spread of disease like toxoplasmosis and prevent cats from hunting endangered wildlife (which they've already contributed to the extinction of 63 bird species).
      People who support TNR say that it's more effective because removing cats compretely results in the vacuum effect. The vacuum effect is the principal that if you remove a population, new cats from the surrounding area will fill the void. This principal is only applicable to systems with finite resources (like wolves or deer). Since TNR programs are frequently accompanied with regular feeding, there are no finite resources for cats. Cats will keep coming from surrounding areas as long as food is available.

    • @kclombard7956
      @kclombard7956 Год назад +1

      If they are being fed on a regular basis, they rarely feed on wild birds, etc. You can't put them up for adoption because they are feral. This is the only option.

    • @geeperjane
      @geeperjane Год назад

      @@kclombard7956 That's a myth. Cats dont hunt because they are hungry. They hunt to practice, and for mental stimulation. Feeding them is not saving the birds, only sustaining and increasing the population.
      It's not the only option. Humane euthanasia is another (better) option.

      Cats who are pregnant at the time of sterilization have the kittens aborted. There's not enough time and resources to bring more animals into the world.

      In another video, he showed them taking in a pregnant feral and seeing her through the births. I assume only positives from these good folks 👍

      The decision probably depends on many factors, including available foster homes and how feral the mother is. During high kitten season, there is no capacity for a fully feral mom with kittens or just the bottle babies without mom.
      At that point, it becomes a similar moral discussion as with human abortions, I guess.

    I rescued a litter of 4, can't afford to get them spayed or neutered since I'm homeless... is there anywhere I can take them to get it done for free? if I just get my 1 female spayed, i can keep keep eye on her brothers so they aren't as big if a problem as getting her spayed (watch my shorts if you wanna see them)

      look to see if there is a SNIP program in your area, it's either going to be free or very low cost.

    how long do you guys wait after surgery to release them back?! im hoping you wait until they are healed to release back out

    • @judithkstephens8564
      @judithkstephens8564 2 года назад +2

      Males are generally released the next morning or day and females can be kept sometimes an extra day. But you cannot keep them very long at all because they will become stressed and they could possibly die.

      @@judithkstephens8564 another reason why TNR is a cruel practice. Giving cats surgery just to release them on the street where they are more suceptible to infection, and ripped stitches with no pain meds available. After they heal they have a rough and dangerous life ahead of them. Cars, poison, disease, predators, people etc. It's better to just euthanize rather than prolonging the suffering of cats and allowing them to damage the environment.

    • @geeperjane
      @geeperjane 2 года назад +2

      Most shelters will abort kittens if it's early enough as they do not want to use resources to house, feed, and foster them. You cant spay a pregnant cat without aborting the kittens or waiting for them to be born.

So many cats now and the coyotes are just eating them, its horrible. When i visit my friend mostly everytime i see a few coyotes running away with a baby kitten in its mouth. Can anyone help me out to at least get the cats sterilized 😅

      They still make longer videos as regularly as they did before, they're just including shorter videos from projects where they didn't have time to film.
      Making longer videos takes a lot of time that can't be lost during the height of kitten season right now, probably.

      Because they are a charity that exists to rescue cats first and a RUclips channel that makes amazing videos about rescuing cats second.
      I miss the regular longer videos too, but ultimately I'd rather see them save more cats and kittens.
