Excellent video from an experienced Ninjascript programmer. I really needed something like ChatGPT to support and verify my own scripts.
I've tried importing the strategies Chat GPT writes for me based on my descriptions of how I want it to work, and after weeks of trying, I gave up. It doesn't consistently format the code correctly and when you prompt it to fix it, something else breaks. I just get constant compile errors once I try importing into Ninja.
Thank you for this video on the other hand to be closer to reality, do not forget to add the commissions during your future videos because the profit made in simulation does not take into account the commissions.
Thank you for your comment. Yes very true. This was just a quick example. But ideally, commissions should be added when back testing

Absolutely! it's not perfect right now. But it could also be due to NinjaTrader being such a specific platform. Nonetheless, very impressive what it generates!

I tried chatgpt to write some ninjatrader code, but it's interesting that it gave me different codes each time I asked the exact same question.
Yes, this has been my experience too. If you ask the same thing it will try and come up with a different result.

I hope you don't use moving average crossovers in your daily programming. I mean if you have Level2/Level3 data access, oh boy, you can program strategies like volume imbalances, volume profile breakouts, cut and reverse and so much more!

I also wanted to copy an paste from chatgpt but like in your case some expressions can‘t be understand by ninjascript. Is there a way to look for the correct expressions? Where can i find them?

They will automatically show up in most cases. Unless you specifically make a condition to ignore historical trades.

No, I wouldn't use any of the strategies in the video on a real account. These are just quick examples.
how long did it take you to learn ninja script? I am interested to learn but know where to find the right resources
I only really started learning how to code about a year ago.
If you have no coding experience, then it'll be a bit challenging and frustrating at first ngl. A lot of trial and error, looking through forums and yelling at the computer 😂
But it does start getting easier once you start learning concepts.
My advice would be to just start messing around with it. Build simple thing on Strategy builder, see what the code does. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
I'm by no means an expert but one of my goals is to make higher quality Ninjascript content this year to at least cover some basics for those getting started.

Best thing to do is to mess around with some simple open source scripts. Try changing things around to see how they work.

The best thing to do is to just start building simple things. Mess around with it. Start with strategy builder and 'View Code'. There is also a ton of open source material out there.

I only started learning how to code about a year ago now. It's a bit frustrating at first if you've never done it. But just keep at it. It starts getting easier once you figure out how to type out the logic.

I am familiar with NT8 strategy builder, but can u tell me how to make it flatten my position when there is a counter trend close of the 8 ema? In strategy builder it appears that it will only let u select a predetermined number of ticks for liquidation, but I want to stay in the trade until there is a counter trend close of the 8 ema. Can u help? Thanks.
This will most likely best be done using Exit Methods instead of SetStopLoss.
You would need to create another Set with your exit conditions. Then use something like ExitLong(); Leave the position amount blank and it will exit your entire long position.
For Example:
if Position.MarketPosition == MarketPosition.Long && 8ema CrossBelow 50sma (Or whatever your counter trend condition is)

ExitLong();
}

@@TradeSaber Thanks for your help. Can you tell me how create the condition that says if the entry candle is violated to close the trade? I feel like I'm in a straight jacket while trying to create the strategy. I feel forced to select an arbitrary number of ticks for my stop placement. So I feel like I have to choose a number of ticks, say 26 tick stop loss, but yet I really want to exit the trade if the signal candle is violated. Any suggestions? Thanks
@@jonathanm9793 I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the Signal candle being violated?
Do you mean - If you enter long. Set a stop at the bottom of the previous candle?

@@TradeSaberLet’s say I want to go long after the first candle the closes the 8 ema to the bull. By Signal candle I mean the candle that closed the 8 ema. I want my stop to go a tick beneath this bar. How do I tell the strategy builder to liquidate the trade if the low of the signal bar is violated (taken out)?
Is it kind of simple for no one with experience to code a robot just using 2 emas? Take positions and close out on ech cross?
Using Strategy Builder on NinjaTrader 8 would be the easiest way. It might take a little bit to figure out if you've never used it before. But it's pretty straight forward for the most part. That would be you best 'Free' bet to doing it yourself.
