Excellent video, thanks for taking the time to show everyone how to open the headset! For anyone looking to change the battery should just follow the video but open up the opposite side obviously. The battery inside is the exact same as the ps3 controller, luckily I had a few spare and you can pick them up easily on Ebay. Headsets now working perfect again, cheers!
@@chrisarmstrong8210 could you show me what kind of battery i need for PS3 controller and headset ? I dont want to purchase fake-counterfeit batteries...
@@markhamilton3215 I did not bought it yet. Took one from a PS3 controller, for testing. It worked just fine. You can find it if search in amazon or other online stores you should find it.
Since Sony has decided to not repair/refurbish or support this headset that cost over $200, it was very kind of you to provide such an excellent video on it's left side disassembly. I see lower in the comments that the right side holds the battery so obviously, the other side comes apart the same way if that needs to be accessed. Our light indicators and microphone have stopped working on ours. Fortunately everything else is still fine. Hopefully ours simply has a connection off from the mic to the circuit board. Thanks to Sony abandoning this model, your video has been extremely helpful in giving me the option to go have a look and see if it can be fixed. Many thanks!
Same!, bough my pair when it first launched and it's still going strong. I recently replaced the flaking ear-pads with velour ones. But the charging seems to be a bit "off" these days, and the battery only lasts about 5 hours before the headset turns off. (can't remember if that was always the case) And the "notch" that keeps the mic all the way out has worn down it seems, so gotta fix that. btw, do you have the name of the battery?.

I fixed mine by slowly rubbing my soldering iron across all the pins of the connector. and I also noticed the 4 connection points at the back of the board behind the connector were a little low on tin, so I've added some more to each. I havent had any charging issues since

nice video, thanks. I have to wonder if your rechargeable battery isn't just wasted? It's either a bad rechargeable battery or that USB connector. How many hours of usage did you have on your headphones, did you buy them new?
hey there sorry for commenting a question on a suuuper old video but is there a way from the inside to remove something to workaround the dongle? I bought one used without the dongle and was hopeing to hook it up via usb to my pc

From what I can tell, it's a mini-b USB receptacle. I plan on using a heat gun to melt the solder connections and replace the part. www.amazon.com/Connectors-MINI-RECEPT-BTTM-piece/dp/B00R310IEW/ref=sr_1_79?ie=UTF8&qid=1436745948&sr=8-79&keywords=mini+b+receptacle#product-description- The battery is model # LIP1472, 3.7V, 570mAh and 2 Wh. I replaced it with a LIP1359 that I found still in the original pack for at least five years. Straight out the box it had two blinks worth of charge, impressive. Hope this helps someone.
I need some help if you could please I pulled out my mic and I'm going to solder the wires back on can you please tell me what order the mic wires are in there is blue, green, red/glue, red, and orange
So my problem is the headband. I have the ps3 0083 I think, anyway, it's cracked all to hell. I was trying to think of a way to reinforce it, maybe with a thin piece of alluminum or some other mallabel metal, IDK. I bought a used pair, but nothing was broken at that time. Any ideas as to what or how I could go about doing this? I've gone through two regular rolls of duct tape, 1 roll of gorrilla tape, and some weird brown "shipping" tape that 3M makes, ANYWAY, OH and I've used a whole thing of super glue... SUPER GLUE and its still all broken.. I LOVE the headphones, just break easy.. oh and my wireless dongle is broke too haha
+Mark O. Happened to all my headsets, pleather tend to dissolve from your sweat. Get Velour replacements if you could, i did so for my G390s. I also found replacements on ebay for the ps3 headset, look for something like SHURE HPAEC840 SRH840 SRH440 SRH940 or for velour HPAEC940 , its a bit of a gamble, wasn't impressed with the comfort at first but I got used to it. Hope this helps.
The last five screws he removed for the side cover is not the same as the battery side. There are only four screws. The fifth screw just above the bottom screw in the corner is not there on the battery side cover. Also, there are plastic catch tabs halfway up the side cover. Run a credit card up under the side lip to pop it loose. Side cover removes like the PCB side as seen here, but my side cover tabs seem to catch and needed the credit card procedure to pop the battery side cover loose. CHECK PROPER POLARITY BEFORE PLUGGING IN NEW BATTERY. Some replacements have incorrect polarity wired to connector. There is a $14 LIP1472 battery on "Big River" by retailer HXJNLDC that is 1250mah and tested as much on my Vapcell S4 Plus. Original battery is a LIP1472 and 570mah. Dimensions of original battery are 58mmx36mmx5mm.

Looking to remove the headband part? Don't just tear it off too quickly -- the wire is wound in and out of it for some reason. Tear off the covering, remove the foam, and cut the plastic...
Remove the tape on top of the USB plug and take a mini screwdriver, then press lightly on the two metal tabs the usb plug ( careful not to push down to hard ) This will give plug the pressure needed to hold the plug in and steady for charging. Goodluck
