This video was somewhat beneficial to me as a beginner if only all tutors like yourself would follow the card method :) 10 years later from this video, pasta machines are still the same today, making it a little difficult to follow on tutorials for thickness. Thanks for your time.
I don’t have a pasta machine, and as of now I don’t want one bcuz of all the inconstant reviews I’m reading...so as a beginner knowing this helps out a lot. I’m gonna use the cards and the settings to help guide me for even and more controlled thickness. Thank you thank you THANK YOU!
Thank you! This video was beneficial. I am a newbie to polymer clay, and your videos are so clear and informative. My pasta machine is inexpensive ( I wasn't sure if I would like polymer clay and if it were something I would stay with) and did not contain any information. 🤔 I love all the possibilities I see for making jewelry with clay. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos and share them. 😊
I remember you telling us this at your blog a while back and I must say it is still the best way out there - I wish everyone that makes tutorials would use this card system instead of #1 on your pasta machine... thanks for bringing this tip to even more people Cindy:)
I've dabbled on and off with PC for a few years, I remembered this tutorial and year before last, I made tiles, for a mosaic frame (just finished another for a Christmas present) I want to do more clay work, so I'm going to invest in the Atlas, so thank you for the videos over the years, can't wait for you to start posting again.... hint... hint 😉 hope you are keeping well xx
I will definitely be using this tip. Have bucco decks of cards that are no longer used and this is a great place to use them. I plan on sharing this with my polymer clay friends. Thanks for your hard work and sharing your discoveries.
Thank you. I know playing cards are used in communicating the thickness of precious metal clays, so it follows that we "polymer people" would also. Great tip, as always, thanks again.
I have a cheap starter pasta machine - 5 levels of thickness and I was thinking about rolling PC and measuring the resulting thickness, but your tip is much better so I'll be using that, and opening my clay for something else. Thanks Cindy. :)
Hi Miina87, Yes we actually have a few videos on cleaning your pasta machine, coming up next month, so make sure you are subscribed to our channel so you don't miss a thing!
Thank you yes, this is a great tip. Shall be doing this with those cards that have been sitted around for years. thanks for the recipe idea too, from a new comer to polymer clay that wishes there was more time to play! bye for now ;)
I am very sorry I misunderstood corneater23. Blame it on being 47 and not getting how things work. I appreciate you coming in an explaining your comment. I feel bad for calling you out and I promise to be a little less 'old' in the future. :)
Thank you so much!!! I wish to watch this sooner!!! My pasta machine is like your pasta machine!!!! Very confusing it looks like 1 will the thinnest and 9 would be thicker!!! Now I know!!!! thank you for the great tip!!!!:)
Hello Cindy, I've watched a few of your videos, and have followed the instructions on the polymer clay packages on how to bake the clay. At first it was melting and now after I take it out of the oven and let it cool down for about 30 min or so, I test it to see if it's some what bendable and it breaks. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, can you please help me? Thanks!!
I am just new to polymer clay... looking to roll correct thickness without buying pasta machine to see if I even like the craft. The cards and roller give me a way to do the clay initially.... save for a pasta machine. thanks
Hi. I'm making polymer clay earrings and I don't have a pasta machine. How many cards should I use in 1/4 thickness? Or how many cards should I use to have the right size in making statement earrings? Thank you
Cindy, because playing cards have numbers on them, and at present I don’t have a pasta machine, it was easier for me to use the equivalent number to the amount of cards. An example being, 7 cards in a stack the top card was number 7, the 5 card stack has the number 5 on top; and so on, made it a bit easier and that way I didn’t have to count the cards out each time. I also stuck a piece of cellotape around each stack to keep them together. Hope this tip helps some of your followers. Hugs from a very hot South Australia 🇦🇺
That is so funny Judith, I have grouped my cards together with the card number on top too... though I was trying to decide which way to keep them together, that wouldn't change the thickness of the stack. I was thinking that a glue stick or spray adhesive might be the thinnest way to stick them together without adding bulk. I am excited to hear that that method works well!
Seriously guys? How will I be able to value your opinions when you leave silly comments like that? Love having you here, but please make comments that are of substance. After all, we are all trying to learn from each other here.
I left that comment because i honestly got tired f seeing people write 'First' in every video. I tried arguing but it never works so i figured i'd troll them :s

Thankyou. Fingers crossed other Artists start using this in there tutorials, at the minute I just guess as most pasta machines are different.

that universal standard for measuring thickness is very very clever.😊
Cindy your tutorials are brilliant

Going to dig out that pack of cards now and start stacking. Thank you.

Thanks for the tip I am off to find some cards now !
How thick should the clay earrings be?
This is a great tip, thanks
Awesome tip for a newbie

Any tips on how to clean your pasta machine?
I don't have a pasta machine so I will use the amount of cards when rolling!
I like this and I will be using it!
pls pls can you make a slab of clay with different thickness without pasta machine ? with roller pin. pls
Just use a stack of cards (or wooden or plastic slats) on either side of your slab and use a clay roller to roll out the thicknesses.
@@PolymerClayTutor okay. Got it. Thank you!
Thanks!!!
