    The thing that kills me about Remarkable is that they want an additional $8 a month just to unlock some software features. Sure they give cloud storage, but if you have Drive or Dropbox, you have to pay for Connect to access Drive or Dropbox and not use their cloud storage. Also, features like text conversion and screen share have nothing to do with a connection service, just software features they lock without a subscription. If you keep for 5 years, you’re paying $900 for a Remarkable. iPad is way more feature packed and doesn’t cost a dime more after the purchase.

      What?? Paying to connect your own clo0ud storage turns me off it immediately.

      Same here mate! I would have bought it instantly, of it wasn't for that stupid subscription service. Limiting a physical product and its features to a subscription service - I did not see that coming for the Remarkable 2. Very aggressive approach that does not benefit the consumers in any way. It's pure limitations. Almost like a pay wall.

    • @tyrah3261
      @tyrah3261 2 года назад +4

      Yep! This is why I won't buy it... they basically killed their product when they required a subscription service for what should be basic features.

      They've changed it recently. All of those core features are included for free again now. Connect is now €2.99 a month for unlimited remarkable cloud storage (50 days included free), extended warranty coverage for the device, access to special offers and new features like the ability to add text to handwritten notes from apps on your other devices.
      Makes reMarkable a more viable proposition now.

    Chase! Great video. I went heavy with the Remarkable, but found it kind of limiting-I love the ability to incorporate color, pictures, web clips, etc, like Notability can do in my notes. So the only thing that kept me going back to the Remarkable was the great writing experience, but (like others have said) once I found the Paperlike, that was solved. Now I have the power of the iPad Pro, but the writing experience of the Remarkable. Haven’t used my Remarkable in several months…

    After a six month run I am switching back to an iPad Mini from the reMarkable. I need to search handwritten notes and tags are not a good substitute for me. Notability and OneNote both easily search notes. This is a great overview that shows you really do use the tablets and are not just reviewing them. One more challenge for me in reMarkable was slow swapping between pages of PDFs.

    Personally I have used the Remarkable II and iPad Pro. I love the iPad Pro. I use Good Notes 5 for meetings, quick notes and everything else especially content creating for my customers. I would say yes the Remarkable II is nice for E-Ink but I do like having the option of carrying my office in one device. If the the Remarkable had a few more options for organization I think I would interested in but right now for me the iPad Pro still wins.
    Good Note 5: In comparison to Notability I love the ability to have notebooks and folders all in one app. I would say all the apps are great in their own way just really need to find the one that works best for what your doing.

  • @oldtwinsna8347

    Key part for me is the ability to keep the screen on all day (10- 12 hour workday) so I can take notes just like I can take them on paper. On paper you don't press a button to start writing, you just start writing. That can be done in the Remarkable since the battery life with the screen on isn't power hungry. On traditional LCD backlight screens since it's essentially a light bulb on, it needs to power down eventually or else you'll go dead quickly.

    I think a good in-between would be a remarkable that can link to a developed smartphone app for organisation (i.e. being able to structure notebooks and edit the same way you can on iPad apps). This way the organisation of notes doesn't have to be hampered by the e-ink screen.
    Also, I'd ike to see the remarkable in a smaller A5 size, or even an A4 with a hinge in the middle of two screens to close like an A5 notebook.
    If future iterations can make similar updates to these I'd definitely consider switching from pen and paper, but as it stands a nice paper notebook and pdf scanner app when needed do the job for me.

I admire the ReMarkable from afar like the Samsung folding phones and Microsoft Surface Studio, but they’re not worth redoing my custom Alfred/Obsidiab/Drafts/Shortcuts/Zotero/etc. workflows.

    Thanks for a great video and comparison of two awesome products! Two things, though:
    1) You can absolutely have folders for your notebooks in the Remarkable! In the list of your notebooks, find the menu to your left and select "My files". That's where I always navigate my stuff from. Work, Life, Notebooks, eBooks, folders in folders, all of it!
    2) The Google Drive and Dropbox integrations work great for archiving and/or transferring stuff back and fourth. Yes, it requires a subscription. That subscription also enables cloud sync to always keep your stuff backed up. A bit of disclosure: I'm an early adopter so I've had Sync free of charge from the day of purchase. They let us early adopters keep using it free of charge which is another testament to their noble business practices.

    I'm in the Android ecosystem, so the Boox Note Air is the happiest medium for me. I have all the Android/play store goodness for UI, reading and note taking apps. But they don't handle video/scrolling at all. So no distractions within it no notifications. When I am working and keeping work notes, or journaling, I remain in that moment, it's very freeing. I can use any Wacom stylus, change out the nibs if I want to....and no subscription. The latest versions have Android 11. I bought mine gently used got a sweetheart deal, I think. It has Android 10 (the original Note Air). I'm happy 😊 though I kinda want the 8 inch color version... I'll wait for the tech to get better/cheaper etc...

    • @mscargill1
      @mscargill1 Год назад

      I have the Note Air 2 and agree the Boox devices are great note takers and also basic Android devices, esp as cross-platform e-readers. Not convinced that the “one trick pony” RM2 is all that much better as a digital note taker though there’s no doubt it is a gorgeous looking device.
      I tried the Boox Nova colour device but returned it because the Kaliedo colour technology isn’t up to showing anything other than washed out or at least pastel shaded colours with grey screens and dimmed clarity. Hopefully 2023 will see great improvements in this area with the new Gallery 3 colour technology.

    Well shit. Kind of a pain, I was hoping the remarkable would be a good price compromise for the I pad but it kinda just misses on some essential things.
    For the remarkable to be a contender I think it needs the infinite scrolling feature, it needs more responsive zooming, it needs to be able to take exportable notes on external PDFs or ebooks, and it needs to not keep its advanced software features behind a subscription pay wall.
    I don’t think it’s too much to ask either it’s not a cheep device and it doesn’t bring enough to the table at its price point to be a viable contender.
    If someone at remarkable is reading this, I would love to see a 3.0 that hits on these concerns because this could be an amazing product.

    The "Remarkable" is interesting, different and maybe for someone without iPhone/iPad/iMac or in the Windows PC world or at least with products that do not support hand written notes or do so poorly.
    I have a Windows tablet, Windows laptop and a Windows desktop that can run the same applications, share folders see the same emails notices and browser tabs.
