Someone please show more footage of Damita jo dancing this is too short this woman ranks as the best female dancer in soul train history. Please show more of her she definitely has skills on the dance floor
Jocelyn, I totally agree with you. She was the only dancer that took my breath away. There were other great female dancers, but something about her stands out; so much soul and rhythm.
I think it had to do with her not being pretty enough she’s not a bad looking woman with the right hair style and make up and clothes she had potential to be very attractive. You can be very talented but if you don’t look good it makes a difference and it shouldn’t but it does.
Agreed, Damita was THE best dancer. I was always happy to know that she was recognized by some of the best entertainers, and hired to choreograph their shows. And she got acting gigs also.
Damita studied ballet in her youth. I think this gave her both a physical abd n artistic edge over many of the others who were killer dancers themselves. Her body lines and articulations just stand out, her moves are so clean and strong.
Who would have ever thought at that time from this episode on Soul Train from the early 1970s that this gentleman name Don "Campbellock" Campbell would go on & make history for his innovation dance style known as "Campbellock" or "Locking"; a form of street dancing style the was new at that time & was based on the dance & song that he created in the Los Angeles Area including forming the original "Campbell Lockers" known as "The Lockers" with member Toni Basil that began in 1971.
Peace and Blessings to you Grandmaster Don Campbell.😔 I miss you man. I miss the phone conversations we had and plans of me possibly touching the stage with you and mainly GM Boogaloo Sam n I being a team! Last we talked was your birthday in 2008. Man, I wish we hadn’t lost touch! At least I got to meet two of my Dance Hero’s! That’s you and GM Boogaloo Sam, and time for get I got to meet GM Tyrone “ The Bome” Proctor. We lost him this year also! I wish I hadn’t lost touch with him. We last saw each other in New York at one of my performance Popping for an event in Harlem , back in Oct of 2010. He supported me in spirit regarding my Popping also. May you two Great Dance Legends Rest in Our Beloved Lord God Almighty’s divine arms forever. Thank you both for your ingenuity in the World of Hip Hop dance! Peace from your friend, Grandmaster Priest Faustus from the East Coast. Love you both. ❤️🇲🇦🇺🇸✡️📿📿
And so it begins, absolutely sensational historical dance moves in the making known as Locking like you've never seen before or could ever possibly imagine, now that's what I'm talking about
Desi, Michael Jackson got the moonwalk from a guy on Soul Train. It's been awhile since I saw the Soul Train documentary, so I'd have to watch it again to catch the guy's name, but it's the truth. And MJ was so creative & innovative that it's easy to believe he pulled it out of his head, but in reality, he asked the guy on Soul Train "How do you do that?"
Those time lockers lock so raw and energetic, you know..I mean, just not all this new bullshit OMG techniques and bunch of moves. Pure style and dance, nothing more to lock as a rockstar!
My people are so talented..Love Me Some Soul Train. This Is Where You Learned The Latest Dance Moves And Saw All The Great Musical Stars Performances..Sometimes Actors Would Come On.
I saw a G. I've seen it all. Dope describes my rhymes, making all you MCS cold drop like dimes. You know MCSC is back again, and battling me on the microphone is like committing a sin. Scott/MCSC
Loved watching soul train but it's really sad how much money the show made off those young people that were struggling financially and exploited, using them and their youthful natural talents and youthful innocent making big bucks off them.
Who is james philips? The 2 dancers you saw were the top ones to come off soul train . Back in that era was when dancing and discovering new moves and styles were being done on a daily basis with all the amazing dance innovators that Soul Train had on the program. Big Don Cornelius knew that he had a hit with him putting his dancers out front to accompany the music . So many great dancers came from that o e show. You really never heard about the dancers on American Bandstand do you?? RIP DON CAMPBELL MASTER LOCKER AND DANCER.. Damita Jo Freeman was always in a class by herself . No one could touch her when it came to dancing and showmanship. Watching her was magic.. She really gave her male pardners a challege. They had to be in top form when they were paired with her.... that show was one of a kind and will never be repeated .
RIP Don Campbell -- 1951-2020
Damito Jo Freeman is still present & motivating youngsters to appreciate dance 💃🏽
Gotta love Damita Jo Freeman!

Damita Jo was the BOSS!!! I used to watch her faithfully. Whenever I hear "I Gotcha" by Joe Tex I think of her.
Her voice and demeanor seems so soft and shy but then the music comes on snd she transforms!

King & Queen ..... Of Mordern Hip Hop Dancing....
Damita Jo and Campbell - those were the days!
Damita studied ballet in her youth. I think this gave her both a physical abd n artistic edge over many of the others who were killer dancers themselves. Her body lines and articulations just stand out, her moves are so clean and strong.

I mean time the music dropped it was ONNNNN
My favorite episode of Soultrain where I learned to dance my last dance. 💃
Are we pretending JANET didn't get it from her?
Desi, Michael Jackson got the moonwalk from a guy on Soul Train. It's been awhile since I saw the Soul Train documentary, so I'd have to watch it again to catch the guy's name, but it's the truth. And MJ was so creative & innovative that it's easy to believe he pulled it out of his head, but in reality, he asked the guy on Soul Train "How do you do that?"
Boogaloo shrimp also helped mj perfect the moonwalk
Me and my sister would do all of her dance moves!
to short!
Winners!
Those time lockers lock so raw and energetic, you know..I mean, just not all this new bullshit OMG techniques and bunch of moves. Pure style and dance, nothing more to lock as a rockstar!
I think Ms. Freeman saying her name and the under-breath "hi" should be on a 45 min loop.
