To be fair, Huns probably don't need any sympathy with how powerful of a civ they are haha. I've been playing Incas as a sort of meta-civ-pick killer. With Franks, Persians, Magyars, Huns as popular as they are, Incas are a good answer to them.
That was a great fight! I haven’t reached the point in my “career” where I know what civs are gonna get wrecked by my civ choice. Yup you sure enjoy the Mesoamerican civs!
I think it’s more important to make your army comp based on the unit you want to go for / your civs power unit, and then add a second unit to deal with the counters. As a natural and easy to understand example, Franks want to make knights, obviously. Their civ is all about cavalry. The problem is that Halbs/pikes counter that comp. So you’re given the Franks unique unit, the throwing axe man, which is especially good as an anti-infantry unit. Or with an archer civ, you’ll probably make lots of archers along with Halbs to fight knights since that’s where archers can fail. And infantry civs with either skirms or siege, to deal with ranged units that could kill infantry. Of course, you probably know most of this, but it’s a lot easier to think “what’s my power unit? What unit can I make to fight my power units counter?” Than it is to think “okay, my civ is this, and my opponent gets this and could go for x and y, so I’ll have to go for i and j” because otherwise you could end up spending lots of time trying to memorize tech trees and unique units.
The last little bit makes me want to add- it’s also important to learn the counters of a few unique units at least. For example, Khmer Ballista elephants take bonus damage from siege! Or Korean War wagons and Bengali Ratha take bonus damage from skirmishers. Those are some weird ones that are good to know. A few others like Janissaries are weak to skirmishers, Byzantine cataphracts are weak against archers but do rather well against pikes, and a few others I can’t think of rn
Excellent game bud. Love the quick walling. Amazing. Poor Huns again haha

@@coxandrewjyeah those are very good to know! As someone learning the Khmer and as someone who’s gravitated toward infantry rushes, great info!
