What a lucky day for you, Ken, meeting such a friendly local on the bus and he is super duper helpful to show you around Haputale. It's always nice to have a local as a guide.
Nothing better than a friendly ,honest local. As an Indian I can say that Sri Lankan people are far more friendly and relaxed. Looking forward to my trip there soon.
Local guy you met seems to be a decent honest person .without ulterior motives. There are plenty of guys like him all around Sri Lanka. But once in a million you may get a bad guy .but 99% people here are honest and hospitable. Take care . Have a enjoyable stay. Much-love from 🇱🇰

Juggary is made from the sap of the Kithul Tree..its a big Palm Tree native to Sri Lanka. Its a species of flowering plant in the palm family. once you collect the sap from flower in a pot that hangs over night you boil it boil it till its brown and becomes juggary.. in.english they call it Fishtail Palm too..Most add sugar which is no.good..but you can buy pure juggary which is soft and tasty.

Haputale is underated. It is the most scenic mountain town in Sri Lanka 😍 People usually go to Kandy and such for the scenery but Haputale is on another level. Literally! I mean right from the town centre you can see about a quarter of the island. What more could one ask for.
Another wonderful meeting of a nice and kind Srilankan. As I already said dear Ken, you will meet this kind of gentlemen every part of the country except one or two bad one. Wishing you all the very best for the future journeys. I'm continuously following your each and every episodes. Cheers...!!!

Lovely interactive video. When we say Tea it always means Tea with milk (either powered or fresh milk) and if you want just tea, then it is Plain tea. Try a tea made with fresh milk (ask for strong Tea) or Plain Tea with crushed ginger. The sugary stuff you had is called jaggery and is being used as a substitute for sugar when drinking Plain Tea.

What you tried is called "kithul juggery" . Its a flowering plant belonging to the palm family, native to Sri Lanka. The sap is harvested from the fishtail palm and is rich in minerals, iron and a more healthy substitute to white sugar. .a natural sweetner, it helps increase heamoglobin levels and is good for anemia. We make kithul honey/treacle and many other sweets using juggery.. Its something similar to palm sugar. You can visit Ridi viharaya (ancient temple) and Pinnawala elephant orphanage village. They will guide you. Thanks for showing beauty of my little country to the world. It's more bumpier if you sitting at the far back of the bus. Not to mention the less fresh air that get to the back of the bus, especially for the air-conditioned buses where you can't open the window. Bumpy ride and poor air circulation are the perfect remedy to cause car sickness. That's why when I goes for a long bus trip, I would prefer to sit at the front section. Plus you get fresh windy air from the front. Also, you can try eat some sour snacks, for example like asam boi or dried sour plum during the ride. It'll help reduce the chance of you to get car sickness.
The climate in Colombo was so unusual for a February...it was like during April..May...hot and humid...never had like this but the reason was that this year rain has come down early and after two nights of intermittent rain , today Colombo wakes up to a good cool morning at 21c and crisp fresh air...🙏
Aha...those palm sugar look quite similar to our Malaysian "gula melaka". We used them for cooking...will be too sweet to eat it raw. Ken, regarding that snack/ "muruku", you had tried it in Melaka. I can remember vividly that you bought a big bottle of it..... Deepavali was around the corner then 😄🤓 Wooooow, happy to know that the strawberry juice is the best and a warm onion bun in a cafe with the best incredible beautiful view. The mountains are stunning indeed. Very thoughtful and humble of you to give a treat to our hospitable brother/guide. Struti...struti !!! ✌️😀
@@KenAbroad yeah, it was the same. There are different types of mould to make muruku, hence the snack comes in different "patterns"/shapes. Wow, you even remember the month and year....👍👍👏😂
Really enjoying your videos Ken. I know you are a big football fan, as a Werder Breman fan were you happy that Dortmund were beaten by the famous Glasgow Rangers 🏴🇬🇧
Dear Brother, there is so many waterfalles in sri lanka for Ex- Rawana waterfall (In ella) and dunhinda waterfall, bopath ella waterfall and bambara kanda etc please vist and discover, love from sri lanka.
Try visiting Fishing Hut in Maskeliya. It's a hidden paradise with old British Colonial era fishing cabins next to a river. It's a bit difficult to reserve but well worth it. You can book it through Blue Magpie Resort. Cabins allow much a shorter access route to climbing the real Adam’s Peak through the mountains. No WIFI there. So be warned.
The sweet you try in the sweet shop calls "kithul hakuru". It made by kithul tracle just like honey. Do you remember you went to colombo to extend your visa. After that your way back to kandy you stop near a tiny shop . And eat curd with kithul tracle..also the taxi driver. That is the thing use to made that sweet.
Haputhale is gorgeous small town, if you stay there you can see 5 or 6 different climate changes in one day. This little town surrounded by tea mountain's.. # 10.07 you ate it's call "jaggery.." any way this my home town love from Italy..🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇱🇰🇱🇰🇱🇰🇱🇰

Aha...those palm sugar look quite similar to our Malaysian "gula melaka". We used them for cooking...will be too sweet to eat it raw. Ken, regarding that snack/ "muruku", you had tried it in Melaka. I can remember vividly that you bought a big bottle of it..... Deepavali was around the corner then 😄🤓
Wooooow, happy to know that the strawberry juice is the best and a warm onion bun in a cafe with the best incredible beautiful view. The mountains are stunning indeed. Very thoughtful and humble of you to give a treat to our hospitable brother/guide.
Struti...struti !!! ✌️😀
Oh I remember that big bottle, didn't know it's Was the same 😄 you have great memories, that was in November 2020
@@KenAbroad yeah, it was the same. There are different types of mould to make muruku, hence the snack comes in different "patterns"/shapes. Wow, you even remember the month and year....👍👍👏😂
Good that you are trying to taste different local bites. Advisable to have one local guy with you whichever place you visit.
Nice video 🔥 Also check out Trincomalee and Jaffna 🇱🇰
Really enjoying your videos Ken. I know you are a big football fan, as a Werder Breman fan were you happy that Dortmund were beaten by the famous Glasgow Rangers 🏴🇬🇧

Amazing..!! 🤩🤩🤩
