As a geographer who collects maps, this is an excellent example of bathymetry that would work perfectly in my office for my map books. 😍
And I’m sure if the right price he’ll sell it to you
it looks so beautiful! now you need to make its twin, the heat gradient 😊❤
Thats a brilliant idea.
You did a great job mate, you make good videos, you will be as popular as black tail studios , oneday, keep it up. Cheers
Fire and ice all the way!!!
I came to say this! A matching red and orange one next, please!
I absolutely love the fact you don't edit out your mistakes so others can learn from them.
FYI. We learn more from things going wrong than everything going right. If I may make a suggestion. I would coat the whole thing with a light brushed on seal coating. Hopefully this would help seal all the unseen issues with leaks. Also. BUY yourself a HEAT GUN. Put the torch down. If you souse a torch, you should have a fire extinguisher VERY CLOSE BY.. but. Trust me buy a heat gun. It will get rid of the bubbles AND help heat up the epoxy instead of hot water. You can add low height side walls to your table when buffing to help contain the spin off debri. You should making a crows foot dimension mark and it’s done with a pencil. Loose the pen. Also. Rags are not buffer block when trying to persuade wood to do what we want. Wood blocks work better.
Unfortunately heat guns tend to blow the epoxy off , cause build ups and attract unwanted hair/debris. Torches burn unwanted hairs off and leave a nice smooth surface to buff in the end.
Iha e a question... Is there a way to protect the epoxy resin from UV light?
Seems I am wrong about the heat gun. Ignore my suggestion to use a heat gun.
I don't think there is a way to be creative without making mistakes and having to earn. I think the fact that you had fun with it and you really tried. Means a lot. And I also think the table looks absolutely amazing. You did great!
Pretty neat little “tablegraphical map” there. I haven’t tried working with epoxy yet, but one thing I have learned in life is that “mistakes” or “failures” are one of the best teachers, and trying to learn without giving in to a fear of failure is an important thing that we all struggle to overcome sometimes. Keep up the good work, I definitely enjoy your videos!
A big part of being a good woodworker is how you handle/cover/recover from your mistakes. You're doing very well there, so keep learning. Tracing paper would probably be great for transferring those lines to the additional layers.
I told my mom I wanted to watch Blacktail Studio and she said “we got Blacktail Studio at home” and then turned this on
Adding the "island" was a great idea. Topographical maps are awesome.
For me the name "Abyss" just popped up when i saw the final table as i connect it with the sea. Well done in total. Was entertaining to watch 😊
I love sanding. Said no one ever. All good. The table looks unique and cool. No pun intended. Good job!
This was my first video I’ve watched of yours. First off I definitely subscribed to your channel after this one video. As you talked throughout it all you and I think a lot a like. I LOVED how you said each skill is a tool, because I couldn’t agree more. I also LOVED how you kept in your mistakes and talked about how it was okay to make mistakes. So many people edit out either the hard parts or their failures. Making it seem like it is super easy or they only do a perfect job. Which isn’t realistic. I look forward to watching your past videos as well as your future videos. Thank you!!!
I think your table is unique and beautiful! It will will fit in lots of spaces. I love your approach to what you're doing, keep doing it & bring more beautiful peices for us to see
Yes, exactly! Completely ignore the negative comments. The ones that aren't constructive. The hecklers. We all know they do that to EVERYONE because it somehow makes them feel better about themselves. 🙄
You're making great content! That was so fun to watch! Original, creative, and a very relatable process. Love it. Keep it up!
I had to pause the video to comment before I forget! I respect the hell out of you for the phrase you just said around 20:55 … this is everything I try to teach my kids. It’s ok to make mistakes, mistakes help us grow it’s trial and error. You did an amazing job I love the table!
When you explained your vision and inspiration I fell in love with this coffee table!
I frikkin LOVE THIS TABLE!!!!!!!I don't think I woudl change a thing!! Those colors just POP!!!!
From one artist to another, you’re definitely an artist brother
Cold-snap.......perfect name for the table
I'd love to have this table as a kind of coffeetable in my livingroom. The room is much darker than the ones you created, but I live in a Swedish blockhouse and I am styling my livingroom toba maritime theme. So the table would fit in perfectly with my very light wood furniture and blue colors.
I love it very much! No disclaimer here!
Oh and by the way - white sofas are a no- go since I have two doggies. Either the sofas are dirty in no time or never visible because something is always on top of them to protect them.
Hi, new here. I was very glad you showed the whole process of the project. Folks need to see both the ups & down of projects to get a true understanding & a true appreciation for the work being preformed. Now with all that being said. I think you did an amazing job. I really do. You did a wonderful job elaborating the creativeness of the project. Thank you for sharing that with us. I'm not a negative giver lol, but since you did ask only thing I would suggest is to not be so negative on yourself. Keep up the good work. Within this next year I'll be making my first table. So you showed me some things to do & not to do. So thank you. Look forward to seeing more of your work as I've just became a new subscriber. God bless you.
Ooooo glacier table! So pretty
Some of us prefer wood table bases, and we appreciate hard work. Here's more proof that you're a real woodworker. I think I'd prefer if you'd kept the wood color around the map edges, but the blue part turned out really cool.
I love u approach, u r so normal and natural .. I m not a carpenter so I'm bound to make those mistakes. I'm encouraged. ❤
I watched a fella today that covered his whole table with that white wrap you use … and that solved all his problems with run off or leaks … easy clean up …. I’ve made the decision to do extra sealing and taping before I pour any epoxy …it sure helps
i think it's gorgeous. so much hard work, so much trial and error. props for not just giving up. my opinion, i feel like the base/legs of the table should've been different. don't get me wrong, it looks amazing, but i feel like something maybe slimmer, or the complete opposite: a big round table base, just a bit smaller in radius than the table top, maybe with a nice, darker warm wood stain, or a smooth, shiny enamel-like white finish.
I luv that u never stopped trying! It's really cool! Calling your table (Wavy Gravy)!!
Nice glacier table 👍
Since you asked for honesty... I thought the table was amazing. Until you painted it white. It's still very impressive but looked better without that step. A very entertaining and educational video regardless and got my subscription. I'm making my way through your videos and can't wait to see what's next. Keep up the good work!
Nice, looks like the "Island Tabletop".
Beautiful table! I would have added a round over to soften the edge but that’s all the critic I got. The rest was magnificently creative and well executed for someone that has never done this. Good job and keep learning so we learn with you.
This is pretty cool, and it's yours from your brain which validates it completely... But from someone who is addicted to watching guys like John Milecky, I can't help but think layered colored resin would have made it look way better... Again it's yours and it's perfectly fine... I think I'm just desensitized to how others make theirs. Well done man
Thanks for not expressing your frustration by dropping foul language. It turned out pretty cool.
I have to say, this is pretty cool. Maps can be read in different ways, you showing the depth of the areas is pretty cool
We freak out but worth it
I love it, it helps that my favorite color is blue!
Being creative is an awesome gift, making mistakes comes with the process of trying and doing, loved this table
I love maps, bodies of water, snow, and blue is my favorite color, so I love this table. Well done! 💙
I think the table turned out beautifully!! So gorgeous!!
Great work. I would name it : "The Blue Rainbow" .
I think this table turned out really nice. It’s definitely something I would put in my house.
"Oceans on Europa"
Personally, I think this is a beautiful project. Well thought out with only a slight misstep in the execution. I would have added some blue leds to light up the epoxy and named the table "Oceans on Europa".
I really like the design! That would look great in a pair of bedside tables
❤❤❤❤ I think it’s wonderful that you made those mistakes. Now you’ve jumped several runs up the ladder at the one time so the next table (and surroundings) should be pretty well perfect❤❤❤❤
That table looks great!
It's great to see a maker admitting to their mistakes and showing how they rectified the mistake.
The table might not be to my taste, but I enjoyed watching the whole process, thank you.
I truly love the table! ❤
It is a awesome table, one learns from ones mistakes 👍🏼
Mistakes happen, it’s a normal human thing. I think it looks fantastic, stay positive ❤
Yiu learn from your mistakes and that's all you can ask for. I thi k it looks AMMAAAZZINNGG and I am an old 45 year old have have nowhere near the skill you have. You have a bright future kiddo! Never stop learning and always strive to be your best self!!
Frost or frozen valley, would be my choice for a name. Very creative, thank you.
That is absolutely beautiful and I love how you did the base.
There is a giant one of these things (sorry, I don't know what it's called) in Memphis, Tennessee at Mud Island. It depicts the whole Mississippi River. People visiting the Island can actually walk on this. You take a tram to get to it. It's really cool. Your table is fantastic.😊
I think it looks great! New idea! Love it! Ice caps i might call it
Welldon... You did absolutely absolutely perfectly well, despite all the mistakes it's came out so beautiful, I learnt a lot from you, keep up the good work, I love the finishing
Loved the video! Loved the table! Xxx
You did a great job. I love your tenacity. You kept going until it was done right! Next time you do a flood coat, try putting a few layers of painters tape on the bottom edge of the table ( 4 layers makes the tape easier to remove later ). Use your razor knife to cut off any excess tape. Then slide a plastic putty knife over the tape while pressing down to make sure it has a good seal. Those resin drips will come right off with the tape. If you’re top coating a resin piece Liquid Latex works great too. Brush the latex on the bottom edge, allow it to completely dry. Then when you’re finished.. peel off the latex along with the resin drops. I’ve made similar topographical jewelry pendants. I like that design too. Yours turned out beautiful.
The finished product looks great also as long as you learned from it it’s worth it
Contour table. Nice work
Such talent and skill. You did a great work 👏👏
This looks incredible!
I would love to have that table. Love it
Not a huge fan of the end product, but I do appreciate the creativity, effort and craftsmanship. There you go !!
I think it's gorgeous. And happy snow day!!
Bloody brilliant 😊
Love your ideas. Love this table and I really enjoy the format of your videos.
Fantastic table furniture Llike it good video
Great video and great table. Really enjoying your builds. Seems like you've taken a lot of notes from Cam @ Blacktail, and followed those well :)
It looks beautiful. I think it came out very nice. You could call it maybe blue lava anyway thank you for the video
Well done and such a cool idea. Thats exactly what Im trying to do with my builds as well - Well different branch, but still woodworking ;-) - mixing crazy ideas and unusual designs!
Beautiful work and effort! It’s a perfect piece AS IS for lots of clients. Had I commissioned it to be done for me I would have requested the top layer of wood to be unpainted red oak the same as the base you made; also unpainted but rather stained to match the top layer and call it “Oceana”. But that’s just my own preference. I could see it sitting in a room decorated in white only with the exception being your table.
Well done, I think it looks great.
Name lonesome retreat. It is as unique as you are. Good job. Keep it up you're going make it in this old world 😊
This was pretty cool to watch. Keep trying new things and see what kind of whimsical results you get.
Looks great! Idea for a name, "The Cold Front"
Iceberg table, as it reminds me of where penguins live.. really cool btw.
Table is gorgeous but I love all shades of blue
I can't even begin to tell you how much waste I've made learning from my mistakes. 😂 It's part of the process. Waste includes time, not just material. You did good by painting a white base, and priming the poplar for the blues. The paint would have bled into the wood grains, and you would have had to go over it 4 or 5 times, rather than 2. The table is absolutely beautiful. Keep up the magnificent journey you're on.
While Folk Art acrylic paint is a decent brand, use Decoart next time. It's just thicker, and works better on the wood.
Love it. It's georgous! The video was also entertaining! 😃
An other good name for your table is "Snowfall Prediction". Beautiful work! 😁🥶🥶🥶
Beautiful work!!
I'm in love with it
I think it's great. Good luck with any further projects.
CNC is Not a real wood worker ! … who ever says they are …. Are clowns …. If it’s hand made , with ( HAND TOOLS ) that’s hand made …. Your work is everything hand made …great job 🏆
Very nice for a first try. Something I learned when I did paint and body work was wet sanding. Once the rough sanding is done, continue to a finer and finer sand paper. After a few of those, use a wet/dry sand paper and sand with a some water. It can help to take a bar of soap and rub a little on the wet sand paper. I like that you included your mistakes. Will help me avoid them when I give something like this a try. I also like that you jump in there and try something new. You don't learn new things by not doing new things.
Well i do believe you did a fab job.. i really ❤ the table and blue is my favorite color..
I havent done anything with wood .. but i did see alot of people use frog tape for around the edges and tape up the entire bottom.. then they used a heat gun or a blow dryer to loosen the epoxy that drips.. just an FYI...So i will watch out for your other videos...
Good luck in the future and always remember that practice makes perfect..... ❤
pretty neat - and funny! my small but bothersome improvements, as you say personal taste, would have been to inset the metal of the fastening flush with the bottom and have them further in from the edge, and (difficult) replicate the look of the painted oak up the edges of the table top, I guess with a veneer? still, it's fine as is..
Very nice table. I'd call it Glacial Vacation.
Honestly I love this table and if I had a living room I’d put it in there
Hi! First, I grew up in SE PA, so, hi! Second, I actually have an art degree, and did pretty well with color theory. You did fine. One suggestion, though: start with the darker colors when layering. If you need to touch up, you might need an extra layer of the darker color for coverage, but you will almost certainly need two to three coats (especially with inexpensive paint, which tends to have uneven levels of pigment opacity from bottle to bottle and color to color) to cover a darker mistake on a lighter section.
Oh, and a tip I have learned from watching woodturning, woodworking, and epoxy videos is that you've got to be CRAZY careful to clean between grits when sanding. It looked like there were some grit particles left behind after your first sand.
Hello brother, I am also a carpenter, I have watched your video and can not praise it, it is really beautiful.
Looks cool dude. Love the concept too. Plus, with all the things that went wrong, you soldiered on like a champ. Good job! 👍👍
My first thought was: He made a sonar-table!
By the way, most norwegian livingrooms I´ve been to has alot of natural wood...
The norwegians love their woodpanel on the walls among other things. 😜😂😂
Looks amazing 🎉
Its very creative. I love it.
Name it 'Glacial Scape'. Great efforts at each step.
Came out awesome. Just have patience. Plan out the step carefully and above all do a good job on every step.
happened to me numerous times my friend. In this case I would have recommended using very thin plexiglass as it is bendable. use UV resin as "glue" all around the outside. since the plexiglass is clear, you can cure it from the outside. Also, you can save yourself a lot of time polishing epoxy by stopping at 1k. I sand to 1k and then rotary polish wool bonnet with meguiars 110 super cut, follow up with DA polisher, black pad and meguiars 210 fine cut. Use sharpie on the epoxy like you would a pencil for sanding wood. Helps keep track of whats been sanded.
Interesting. Thanks for the tips!
1:28 great quote, the minds eye usually just knows....
Love the design looks like the rice fields in aisa The paddy field
I think it looks awesome. though it would be fun to see you make it in green and a more strange shape. explore the possibilities. especially as some water has a green aparance
