  • Slight rattle my engine makes when under acceleration. The check engine light is for the coolant sensor valve, no other codes have been thrown. Nothing is loose under hood (prop, washer reservoir ect.). Any ideas?

Same issue for almost a year now. A month ago talked to an official Toyota technician. He said it's a small metallic thing in the transmission causing this noise. Sometimes it is caught in a hole, and it is dead silent, sometimes it circles through metallic walls and creates this sound. Said it's a cheap repair just for 1-2 hour.
Should find time to take the car to his place to do the job.

Will it cause damage? Or am I safe to drive? On my second Prius last one nothing happen same issue but I’m at the point it’s pissing me off haha and just dropped a lot on the car due to the market and don’t want to be out $

@@TherealYumpho3107 Still I hear that noise from time to time especially once I accelerate aggressively (I'm not a crazy driver). During regular and normal driving, I barely hear that noise, although I am almost sure that metallic thing continues making a low noise which I can't hear. So, I haven't repaired this issue so far, and I am not going to do that in the foreseeable future.

    That's caused by detonation.
If you use 87 gas all the time, you might want to get a full tank (may be 2 full tanks) of 91 gas, and the noise should go away!
Detonation makes that "pinging/knocking" sound. Higher octane fuel should reduce it because it’s slower to burn.
Once the pinging (the same noise in the video) goes away, you can go back to 87, and the computer should adjust the timing a little bit so the "knocking" doesn't happen again.
    Good luck, everyone!

    Hi i am from uk.
I had this same issue. The noise was coming from catalytic converter.
I use to put e10 unleaded fuel.
It is cheap but it is very bad for your car.
A month ago my car was making same noise.
I have got toyota prius 2014.
I have done online research then decided to change fuel.
Now i am putting e5 super unleaded.
1st and 2nd tanks noise was getting low day by day.
    now its completely gone.
    No more noise.
Dont go for cheap fuel. Super unleaded is just only 8p to 10p a liter expensive the the cheap fuel.

Could be dirty fuel injectors...Get the four top fuel injector orings from a toyota dealership parts dept only...only ones that will fit. Take out the injectors and clean them and the engine thoroughly, inspect all orings, if bottom orings are intact...re-use them, the top orings need to be replaced with new from Toyota. About 10 bucks each so 40-50 bucks. That's caused by detonation
If you use 87 gas all the time, you might want to
get a full tank (may be 2 full tanks) of 91 gas, and
      the noise should go away!
      Detonation makes that "pinging/knocking

Once the pinging (the same noise in the video),

@@dinamuth369 Tbh i never found the cause. But everything is ok with the vehicle nothing bad ever happened. As i said.. it's something to do with the oil and/or filter. Cuz when i change to some Toyota Oil the sound stops. When i use Eneos oil sound comes back. Don't worry though it doesnt seem like a major issue. For me it happens like once a year lol. Ofcz if for you it's always like that you should go to mechanic. If you can reproduce the sound maybe they could tell you. I couldn't reproduce the sound to mechanic cuz for me it happens very rarely. If i had to guess... it sounds like spark plugs knocking maybe? But then again why some oil fixes the problem? Wish i could tell you but i have no idea. If you guys find the issue by any chance let me know. Just curious what's the real culprit here.
