His final design is perfect. Its both incredibly monstrous and very human at the same time, the other scrapped designs are a bit too alien and other worldly in my opinion, his final design truly looks like he was once just a human but has rotted and decayed because of being in the upside down for years, leaving nothing but a walking rotted corpse behind

Current Vecna isn't very scary to me. With some I understand why they didn't make it, but he could have been less lifelike to make him more threatening and scary.

the theory that vecna took will in season 1 makes more sense now seeing these designs coz they are all very thin like the silhouette in s1, coz if it were the Demogorgon it would have straight up killed will instead of keeping him in the library where Joyce and hopper found him
the mind flayer could have comanded the demogorgon not to kill will but to take him to the upside down ,or it was just a demogorgon who escaped out of the gate and was wandering and will just ran into him and he was taken to the upside down ,think about it the mind flyaer is a hive mind and vecna was conected all along ,the singing should i stay or should i go ,rember its not the first time this happend rember barb she was abducted.

The vecna we have now makes more sense. The praying mantis looks cool but I don't see how that correlates to the upside down.
It doesnt, its all random BS pulled from better movies, mish mashed together to create a lame incoherent product. Every design is ripped from a better design. Vecna, is nothing but orange swamp thing.

They’re absolutely good designs I like the spider / pennywise one that makes sense for his character I totally agree with the final design is much better also more human that’s what they’re going for in season 4..
i like the other designs because they're scarier but i can see why they went with the one that they did because they wanted to show more facial expression and emotion

I don’t like how his design was revealed immediately in the first episode. I prefer how they built up the reveal of the demogorgon in season 1 where we didn’t see it in full until like episode 6. Plus, in my opinion, Vecna looks kind of goofy

It's easy to understand where the complete hatred from humanity comes from. I would be pissed if I had to endure 7 hours of make up every day
As a huge horror fan all of these vecna ideas are amazing and so creepy! I do think they made the right choice tho too! But I think vecna looks so much more scary when u see him when he first gets to the upside-down where he still has hair and clothes and he looks all burnt! That's more scary then full vecna but all the same his full costume is still totally amazing!

Vecna is one of the most spectacular villains my eyeballs have ever had the privilege of seeing. The backstory is awesome, the actor is awesome and even the script is awesome. I hope it stays that way or gets even cooler in the coming seasons.
I love that they can just share the behind the scenes of the creative process. That kind of stuff has always fascinated me
tbh I LOVE the mantis vecna design, since it actually seems a lot like the flesh monster from season 3. It's got the large legs, the creepy arms, and the tentacle-like hand that opens up, just like the tongue of the flesh monster. It would make a lot of sense, but yeah, in the end, I'm glad they went almost fully practical. I just hope the mantis design is used in Season 5 somehow, like he transforms like Pennywise or something.
I really love the two first designs because they look so badass! And the other ones are just absolutely terrifying and give me nightmares!
Vecna was meant to be more human-like not scary scary. It's a bit odd if just transformed fully into an alienesque figure after being thrown into a different world. It's realistic because his features evolved in a natural pace. But i did hope he can shape shift because these designs are cool.
I like, that he isn't scary scary but his deeds are super scary to me.
They nailed Vecna in my opinion. They gave him more evil characteristics that would have been lost with demons and alien designs.
I wonder if he will be altered further for season 5 after being set alight and blasted with a sawn off.
"the scariest season" It was more the Bloodiest of all the seasons if they keot the old design I think it would be much scarier for some reason thinking of vecna in one of her old designs just moving really fast scares me.

I love the one they took most, it's more 80's and Iron Maiden like ^^ the others are absolutely cool too, especially the mantis design is really cool and a completely new idea ^^ they should keep it for a own movie. I simply love 80's retro fantasy/horror art ^^

The other designs took the human element out of Vecna. I'm actually glad they settled for the current design. Our current Vecna looks like he's still transforming compared to the other designs.

for the plated design I thought maybe he could detach those plates using his telekinesis and use them as projectiles as extra attacks. also the plates could even have sharp ends for great damage and he could put a bunch of plates at one spot to increase defense in a specific area of his choosing. and the way the gang defeat him is to make him somehow take of all his very durable plating to hit his weak skin underneath.
another cool idea could be that he can pull out his sharp teeth using his telekinesis and use them also as projectiles.
As a SFX makeup artist, I really love how they didn’t just rely on video effects, but real SFX makeup. Barrie Gower is really great at what he does

The current Vecna now is super perfect, its in the middle of human and monstrous. My favorite here is the Infected Vecna, i think this design was where they started the current Vecna because the face and overall design.
The final design they came up with works great. Cool to see the concept art!

It’s no coincidence that his design is the way it is. It combines humanity with visual storytelling that parallels his progression as a character and his role within the upside down.
For example the gangrene design implies that he is rotting and decaying without any gain, whereas in reality the upside down has allowed him to grow stronger as he voluntarily corrupted himself further away from being human, with his damaged human appearance being overlaid with these fleshy tendrils consistent with the Upside Down’s aesthetic that actually make him look more physically imposing, imitating the look of musculature (especially on his shoulders).
The emphasis on his humanity is too expansive and important to fit in a RUclips comment cohesively. His other designs are not just inferior, they are incorrect for the character on the page.
The one with his myth exposed is dealing giving me resident evil vibes
I laughed when they said they rejected some really good concepts just because you couldn't see his expressions. Yet in my opinion that was my issue with the final form. He had no expression and really wasn't scary looking at all.
Even wild animals can express themselves.
He comes off very Red Skull-ish to me
The design we got for him I think is definitely the perfect one. It uses practical effects which is one of the many things that made 80s sci-fi horror films special. Plus, his design is pretty similar to Freddy Krueger which is one of the inspirations for his character.
Just about all of those designs would be so awesome to see if modeled and animated well in a VR horror game.
I’m more curious as to what Vecna ate and drank in the upside down world. Before he had a complete makeover from his time in the upside down, he was still mostly human and I’m still trying to figure how he survived a massive free fall drop into the upside down since he can’t levitate… anywhere he would have likely landed on seemed rocky… can he levitate?
The first one reminds me of the quit place's monsters. Yet I still prefer every concept art to what we ended up getting, which is a pretty unpopular opinion

Yes but I understand the logic, Actors got to act or it might as well be a robot, But I don't understand is why do they seem more and more as just men in the costumes? I'm old but I still want to see female monsters with no censorship! Watch Van Helsing, The women don't even have nipples??? Back in the day we used to call men like me DOMS, Dirty Old Men! Burt Reynolds said it best in a movie called Semi tough back in 77. He and Kris Kristofferson were in the back of a limo and Burt said "I'd fuck warm mud if someone would hold it for me" The knothole in a tree just didn't turn into a joke for no reason

Vecnas look is badass and is now my number 1 favourite movie monster.
At certain parts of the show he looked like the grinch especially when he gets in the final fight and goes out the window. Mantis was def a good one. I like the alien one too

When I first saw Vecna I, am a bit bashed to say, my first thoughts were “Why is the Grinch all vines? Why is the Grinch here? Is Ron Howard in this now?”

I feel like creators have dipped quite a lot into the Alien 4 new hybrid xenomorph design for Vecna's face.
One of my main issues is with Vecna’s design. Some of these are better.
the infected design already seams to be incorporated due to his left arm looking much different to his right and the tentacles covering his body with all the rotting flesh and skin

My favourite is the one without the eyes because I feel it still has a human vibe to it but it looks alien and a bit more scary

I am glad they actually stayed with the one that looks like Iron Maiden’s Eddie. Very fitting to the whole show given the content and everlasting references to 80s iconography.
