Current Vecna isn't very scary to me. With some I understand why they didn't make it, but he could have been less lifelike to make him more threatening and scary.
the theory that vecna took will in season 1 makes more sense now seeing these designs coz they are all very thin like the silhouette in s1, coz if it were the Demogorgon it would have straight up killed will instead of keeping him in the library where Joyce and hopper found him
the mind flayer could have comanded the demogorgon not to kill will but to take him to the upside down ,or it was just a demogorgon who escaped out of the gate and was wandering and will just ran into him and he was taken to the upside down ,think about it the mind flyaer is a hive mind and vecna was conected all along ,the singing should i stay or should i go ,rember its not the first time this happend rember barb she was abducted.
I don’t like how his design was revealed immediately in the first episode. I prefer how they built up the reveal of the demogorgon in season 1 where we didn’t see it in full until like episode 6. Plus, in my opinion, Vecna looks kind of goofy

Vecna is one of the most spectacular villains my eyeballs have ever had the privilege of seeing. The backstory is awesome, the actor is awesome and even the script is awesome. I hope it stays that way or gets even cooler in the coming seasons.
As a huge horror fan all of these vecna ideas are amazing and so creepy! I do think they made the right choice tho too! But I think vecna looks so much more scary when u see him when he first gets to the upside-down where he still has hair and clothes and he looks all burnt! That's more scary then full vecna but all the same his full costume is still totally amazing!
tbh I LOVE the mantis vecna design, since it actually seems a lot like the flesh monster from season 3. It's got the large legs, the creepy arms, and the tentacle-like hand that opens up, just like the tongue of the flesh monster. It would make a lot of sense, but yeah, in the end, I'm glad they went almost fully practical. I just hope the mantis design is used in Season 5 somehow, like he transforms like Pennywise or something.
Vecna was meant to be more human-like not scary scary. It's a bit odd if just transformed fully into an alienesque figure after being thrown into a different world. It's realistic because his features evolved in a natural pace. But i did hope he can shape shift because these designs are cool.
They nailed Vecna in my opinion. They gave him more evil characteristics that would have been lost with demons and alien designs. I wonder if he will be altered further for season 5 after being set alight and blasted with a sawn off.
"the scariest season" It was more the Bloodiest of all the seasons if they keot the old design I think it would be much scarier for some reason thinking of vecna in one of her old designs just moving really fast scares me.
I love the one they took most, it's more 80's and Iron Maiden like ^^ the others are absolutely cool too, especially the mantis design is really cool and a completely new idea ^^ they should keep it for a own movie. I simply love 80's retro fantasy/horror art ^^
The other designs took the human element out of Vecna. I'm actually glad they settled for the current design. Our current Vecna looks like he's still transforming compared to the other designs.
for the plated design I thought maybe he could detach those plates using his telekinesis and use them as projectiles as extra attacks. also the plates could even have sharp ends for great damage and he could put a bunch of plates at one spot to increase defense in a specific area of his choosing. and the way the gang defeat him is to make him somehow take of all his very durable plating to hit his weak skin underneath. another cool idea could be that he can pull out his sharp teeth using his telekinesis and use them also as projectiles.
The current Vecna now is super perfect, its in the middle of human and monstrous. My favorite here is the Infected Vecna, i think this design was where they started the current Vecna because the face and overall design.
I laughed when they said they rejected some really good concepts just because you couldn't see his expressions. Yet in my opinion that was my issue with the final form. He had no expression and really wasn't scary looking at all.

It’s no coincidence that his design is the way it is. It combines humanity with visual storytelling that parallels his progression as a character and his role within the upside down. For example the gangrene design implies that he is rotting and decaying without any gain, whereas in reality the upside down has allowed him to grow stronger as he voluntarily corrupted himself further away from being human, with his damaged human appearance being overlaid with these fleshy tendrils consistent with the Upside Down’s aesthetic that actually make him look more physically imposing, imitating the look of musculature (especially on his shoulders). The emphasis on his humanity is too expansive and important to fit in a RUclips comment cohesively. His other designs are not just inferior, they are incorrect for the character on the page.
I’m more curious as to what Vecna ate and drank in the upside down world. Before he had a complete makeover from his time in the upside down, he was still mostly human and I’m still trying to figure how he survived a massive free fall drop into the upside down since he can’t levitate… anywhere he would have likely landed on seemed rocky… can he levitate?
The first one reminds me of the quit place's monsters. Yet I still prefer every concept art to what we ended up getting, which is a pretty unpopular opinion
The design we got for him I think is definitely the perfect one. It uses practical effects which is one of the many things that made 80s sci-fi horror films special. Plus, his design is pretty similar to Freddy Krueger which is one of the inspirations for his character.
At certain parts of the show he looked like the grinch especially when he gets in the final fight and goes out the window. Mantis was def a good one. I like the alien one too
I am glad they actually stayed with the one that looks like Iron Maiden’s Eddie. Very fitting to the whole show given the content and everlasting references to 80s iconography.

the designs where he was infected by a type of rot look like they could be an in-between look, like he slowly rotted more and more into the way he looks now, he looked like he had more human skin than "rot"
Certainly some previous films played a part in the designs, just goes to show how good those ideas were. The VFX guys Certainly earn their wages and are the unsung heroes of film/TV and stage.

A lot of people are saying Vecna isn't scary, I'd like to agree his look is not that scary, but the lack of emotion, and mercy he has is terrifying, he has strength like no other monster too.
i cant believe how long it took them to put the prosthetics on! how did he find time to sleep on shooting days? how long did he have to shoot for? Jamie Campbell Bower is a champ for enduirng that makeup session---so many actors would have complained and probably not done this. Jennifer Lawrence always comes to mind whenever makeup effects come up because she infamously spoke about her dislike for the time and make up for mystique's look---so much so that instead of makeup she wore a blue body suit.

I don't hate his design but I do remember being highly disappointed by it when I first saw it. I know people are saying it's scary because he's humanoid or whatever but the thing is he doesn't look humanoid enough for that type of fear to work. The only point where he was actually scary was the three seconds after Eleven found out about how terrible he was and then he was thrown into another dimension. But I definitely appreciate his design more after learning it was not special affects.
My brain when I saw Vecna for the first time: Why does he look like a rejected Mr. Grinch? I like the design but could not get that image out of my head which made him less threatening in my eyes. XD I understand why they went with it though.
I really love mantis or alien vecna because of the webbing over the eyes. The final vecna we have isn't scary like to me because he looks so human-like and he talks. It's easier for us to fear things we don't understand. I would've preferred a less human like vecna that didn't talk. But I understand why they made the choices they did to some degree.
One of the most terrifying creatures I've most been afraid of as an adult are the engineers from Prometheus. The more other wordly and significantly advanced human like the creature is more terrifying 😄

One of my main issues is with Vecna’s design. Some of these are better.
Vecnas look is badass and is now my number 1 favourite movie monster.
