I agree: this is why I think that parents should not be paying for their education; it is not an obligation. Perhaps if students knew that 'Daddy and Mommy' won't pay for their college education, they should pay for it themselves or go to a trade school to learn a marketable skill.....
My advice to all who want socialism in the U.S especially young college age individuals . Is to test fire their weapon first. Take 3 - 6 months just to go live in any socialist country of your choice. Then come back and tell us how that worked out for you.

University is where people go to learn about thr world and find themselves, alot of kids find comfort in socialism because it is great in thoery (as most ISMs are). I go to college in a social democrat country and I work too. The state pays some of my tuition fees so my college is drastically cheaper, roughly €3000. Compared to America where it's $30,000. Life is good for me so I'm not critical of the system because it works for me. For students in the US they have to pay over $30,000 in tuition fees, where do they get the money working part time? A student can never afford to pay college fees alone and you can't say work harder and get a better job because that's why they're in college in the first place. Students in the US are under severe pressure so it's clear why they want Socialism. It's not the best alternative but they believe it's better than Capitalism because the capitalism system failed them.

However in my country students can comfortably balance college and work. I do not live in a socialist country like Venezuela. I can still start a businesses if I choose and I work for a private company. I'm also saying that the system for students here works well and therefore students don't complain because we are happy. In the US the system isn't working for students and therefore they are looking to the other side of the spectrum to socialism. In the US you are taught that it's either Capitalism or Socialism, but you completely ignore Europe which is a blend of both.

You also give power to the large corporations because they can absorb cost inflation and drown small businesses. This will also result in a reduction of jobs because the corporations will outsource jobs to reduce their cost of labor. How does this benefit the lower class? Answer: it doesn't.

From a certain point of view, Tucker in this dialogue was much more of a pragmatist, analyzing the result of the elections and why big business supports cheap unskilled labor from immigrants without a background or indeed legal documentation (which explains why Merkel called for one million refugees in Germany , single-handedly abolishing the very legal process (Dublin) she otherwise imposes on Greece to keep the large numbers of refugees on greek territory). In the realm of labeling, Tucker is the "conservative" and the guest was the "socialist". In reality, Tucker was much closer to the marxist analysis. The kid sounded like a petit-bourgeiois trying to half-suggest some socialdemocratic/centre-left/idealistic agenda based on sour "humanitarism" and handouts from a non-existent welfare-state. The type of confused reformism that infuriated Lenin back in the day. Lenin himself believed that many times, proclaimed (and even self-proclaimed) conservatives were more revolutionary in essence than many proclaimed (and especially self-proclaimed) "socialists". The soviet union didn't 'collapse', rather than slowly transfer over to capitalism through Gorbachev's policies, which couldn't have been done without Stalin's aggressive industrialization (not defending him though). The economy wasn't failing because of soviet communism, rather Gorbachev radically changing the economy, which he later regretted. Your tax dollars are spent exponentially more on corporate subsidies than welfare (but not a single republican complains about corporate welfare), and the tax laws are written by lawyers who work for these huge corporations. If you make 50,000 dollars, you will pay 36 dollars toward food stamps and about 867 dollars toward corporate subsidies. The US has always been a mixed economy of capitalist and socialist principles, we just call it capitalism, and the media frames it as two ideologies fighting for supreme dominance. Take the smart phone for example. The US government tax payer funded gps, the internet, touchscreens... And companies like apple and motorola benefit from the technology and pay hardly any taxes. Another example, the US taxpayer funded epi pens 30 something years ago, and now big pharma owns the patent and charges hundreds of dollars. Another example the copyright laws were specifically rewritten so that Disney could reap billions, and their movies which they stole the plots from don't enter the public domain. Almost everyday you hear about big banks getting fined billions from scams... It doesn't stop because they are making more than the slap on the wrist fines they get from the government. These corporations can easily afford a living wage and government policy could easily be tweaked to accommodate higher wages. When you have fortune 500 company CEO's making in one year what it would take 10,000 years for the minimum wage worker to make, you know something is not right. But people can't get passed the labels of socialism and capitalism, and make economic policy decisions on a case by case basis
Not every business can afford to pay $15.00 an hour. If one gets fifteen dollars an hour then someone else gets their hours cut or they get laid off. Come on man!
@@TheRedbiker01 I think anybody who works a 40 hour week should be able to afford to live without government assistance. I think the responsibility should fall on the employer not the government. When I used to manage a dry cleaning store, most of my full time employees were getting welfare and or food stamps. We could easily afford to pay them more, but I had to manage a payroll to get my bonus, so the employees got the shaft. The owner who was a multi millionaire many times over owned a chain of dry cleaners... had 3 houses, a farm, rental properties, every year we'd get Christmas cards of his family going on some international trip. He had a new car every year.... And yet the government was subsidizing his employees so they could live and come back to work everyday to make him money. He also ran a give a kid a coat program at Christmas, where people would donate coats at the dry cleaners and donate them to charity... He bragged about it being a great gimmick for free publicity, but his employees literally stole coats for their own kids because they couldn't afford it. It was sad all the way around. I'm so glad I left that job. The greed I witnessed and the poverty were just heartbreaking and the owner was such a jerk who worked the system.
That student just lovers the sound of his own voice, he, just like all other students should study, get out into the work place, find out what makes sense before spouting out rubbish about what should or should not happen. Real life is a lot different between students and a family struggling to survive, with bills and keeping a roof over their head being their prime concern.
Maybe these socialist students should start a business together. It could be a great learning moment for them. To be more fair, they could just get the money they generate and share any expenses from the company. They can get money together! Now that's Capitalism! Oh, wait, that's Socialism.

And my teacher said "they are not coming because of the school walkouts"then my teacher asked me a question in return "why are you still here aren't you going?" Then I answered "No". I go to college in a social democrat country and I work too. The state pays some of my tuition fees so my college is drastically cheaper, roughly €3000. Compared to America where it's $30,000. Life is good for me so I'm not critical of the system because it works for me. For students in the US they have to pay over $30,000 in tuition fees, where do they get the money working part time? A student can never afford to pay college fees alone and you can't say work harder and get a better job because that's why they're in college in the first place. Students in the US are under severe pressure so it's clear why they want Socialism. It's not the best alternative but they believe it's better than Capitalism because the capitalism system failed them.

However in my country students can comfortably balance college and work. I do not live in a socialist country like Venezuela. I can still start a businesses if I choose and I work for a private company. I'm also saying that the system for students here works well and therefore students don't complain because we are happy. In the US the system isn't working for students and therefore they are looking to the other side of the spectrum to socialism. In the US you are taught that it's either Capitalism or Socialism, but you completely ignore Europe which is a blend of both.

When Tucker Carlson has to explain basic Marxist theory to a socialist we really can't take his education or judgment very seriously.
From a certain point of view, Tucker in this dialogue was much more of a pragmatist, analyzing the result of the elections and why big business supports cheap unskilled labor from immigrants without a background or indeed legal documentation (which explains why Merkel called for one million refugees in Germany , single-handedly abolishing the very legal process (Dublin) she otherwise imposes on Greece to keep the large numbers of refugees on greek territory). In the realm of labeling, Tucker is the "conservative" and the guest was the "socialist". In reality, Tucker was much closer to the marxist analysis. The kid sounded like a petit-bourgeiois trying to half-suggest some socialdemocratic/centre-left/idealistic agenda based on sour "humanitarism" and handouts from a non-existent welfare-state. The type of confused reformism that infuriated Lenin back in the day. Lenin himself believed that many times, proclaimed (and even self-proclaimed) conservatives were more revolutionary in essence than many proclaimed (and especially self-proclaimed) "socialists".
This being said, it is obvious that Tucker was more friendly to this guest and the dialogue was very much civilized. Probably because, for all his idealistic confusion of socialism with some welfare-state-run program of handouts, this kid was much more sane than some Dem party people who really seem to be out of control (and in frenetic denial) since nov 8.

The soviet union didn't 'collapse', rather than slowly transfer over to capitalism through Gorbachev's policies, which couldn't have been done without Stalin's aggressive industrialization (not defending him though). The economy wasn't failing because of soviet communism, rather Gorbachev radically changing the economy, which he later regretted.
Speaking of failed economies, it's ironic that people use Thatcher's quote as her attempts to promote an unregulated free market caused mass unemployment and a 30% deficit in the manufacturing industry, all in the name of bringing down inflation

I mean when .01% of the population has more wealth than the bottom 90% you know something is wrong. It's not by coincidence... It's thru lobbying, wage suppression, outsourcing, planned obsolescence. Your tax dollars are spent exponentially more on corporate subsidies than welfare (but not a single republican complains about corporate welfare), and the tax laws are written by lawyers who work for these huge corporations. If you make 50,000 dollars, you will pay 36 dollars toward food stamps and about 867 dollars toward corporate subsidies. The US has always been a mixed economy of capitalist and socialist principles, we just call it capitalism, and the media frames it as two ideologies fighting for supreme dominance.
Take the smart phone for example. The US government tax payer funded gps, the internet, touchscreens... And companies like apple and motorola benefit from the technology and pay hardly any taxes. Another example, the US taxpayer funded epi pens 30 something years ago, and now big pharma owns the patent and charges hundreds of dollars. Another example the copyright laws were specifically rewritten so that Disney could reap billions, and their movies which they stole the plots from don't enter the public domain. Almost everyday you hear about big banks getting fined billions from scams... It doesn't stop because they are making more than the slap on the wrist fines they get from the government.
These corporations can easily afford a living wage and government policy could easily be tweaked to accommodate higher wages. When you have fortune 500 company CEO's making in one year what it would take 10,000 years for the minimum wage worker to make, you know something is not right. But people can't get passed the labels of socialism and capitalism, and make economic policy decisions on a case by case basis

Not every business can afford to pay $15.00 an hour. If one gets fifteen dollars an hour then someone else gets their hours cut or they get laid off. Come on man!
@@TheRedbiker01 I think anybody who works a 40 hour week should be able to afford to live without government assistance. I think the responsibility should fall on the employer not the government. When I used to manage a dry cleaning store, most of my full time employees were getting welfare and or food stamps. We could easily afford to pay them more, but I had to manage a payroll to get my bonus, so the employees got the shaft. The owner who was a multi millionaire many times over owned a chain of dry cleaners... had 3 houses, a farm, rental properties, every year we'd get Christmas cards of his family going on some international trip. He had a new car every year.... And yet the government was subsidizing his employees so they could live and come back to work everyday to make him money. He also ran a give a kid a coat program at Christmas, where people would donate coats at the dry cleaners and donate them to charity... He bragged about it being a great gimmick for free publicity, but his employees literally stole coats for their own kids because they couldn't afford it. It was sad all the way around. I'm so glad I left that job. The greed I witnessed and the poverty were just heartbreaking and the owner was such a jerk who worked the system.
That student just lovers the sound of his own voice, he, just like all other students should study, get out into the work place, find out what makes sense before spouting out rubbish about what should or should not happen. Real life is a lot different between students and a family struggling to survive, with bills and keeping a roof over their head being their prime concern.
Maybe these socialist students should start a business together. It could be a great learning moment for them. To be more fair, they could just get the money they generate and share any expenses from the company. They can get money together! Now that's Capitalism! Oh, wait, that's Socialism.
Socialists want the better future where you can actually do something else than barely "struggle to survive and keep a roof over your head" - such as free public housing. It worked in my country, after everything was destroyed in a war.
I promise you, at his university, gender studies or some other social sensitivity course is required but intro to basic economics is not. $15/hr min wage would devastate the economy and especially the poor. If you disagree with that, then I'm sure you aced your gender studies course.
