I am so very lucky to own an original 1972 Colt Python 4” in .357 mag. I worked for a large Sheriffs Office here in WI. My uncle was killed in the line of Duty for my same Department. After I was hired, my other Uncle gave me the first uncles (they were brothers) side arm he was wearing when he was killed. It was the Colt Python I now have. To me, it’s priceless.

At 67years old, I think I'll just stick with my old New Service in 45 Colt made in 1899. It still works just fine. The Pythons are beautiful guns, guess I'm just old fashioned.

I must be old fashioned, too. Maybe it's an age thing. I'm 62, and my favorite Colt is my WWI GI model 1911 in .45ACP. It has lanyard loops on both the butt and the magazine. For .45 Colt, I like my S&W 25-5. Had it since the 80's, too.😉

I bought a 6” Python in the early 1970s. It would be difficult to describe this revolver adequately. It has the most beautiful bluing I’ve seen on any handgun before or since. The metal to metal and metal to wood fitting is in a word, impeccable. And then there’s the action…buttery slick is the best way to describe it. I haven’t yet but hopefully I’ll get to hold one of these new Pythons and see how it stacks up against the older ones.

You kno people forget a lot with time the " first python" had a lot of issues that people forget to mention I own both I have a 1973 python and the 2020 python and I have to tell ya every gun has issues I prefer the 2020 python over the older ones IMHO.

Have to give it up to marketing this gun through The Walking Dead series. I believe it really added to the popularity of this Python especially the 6in. With new generation gun enthusiasts. Although I did try and shoot mine like Rick grimes with the nozzle down one handed and yeah he must be some shooter Lolol . Love this gun so much and will be passed down to my son one day.

Is there a term for this malfunction? I've had this happen before on my model 29 and I sent it back to the factory to be evaluated and fixed.

@jeffc411 not sure. I saw another guy on RUclips with same issue. He blasted out the cylinder lock mechanism with WD 40 and said it fixed it. I did the same thing and it's never happened again. Maybe some machining debris in there?

      @jeffc411 2 месяца назад

@jwalesoutlaw3294 thanks for the reply. I'll do some more digging. It may be trigger sticks but maybe that is another issue.

Have my Dad’s 357 Python that he bought in 1959, with original box!! Last few years of when they were assembled by hand. Have you done any videos with the High Standard Supermatic trophy 22lr? Have that one as well. Both of mine with high blued finish.

I've bought 9 of the (2020) Pythons 7 SS & 2 Blue and on two of them, a SS 6" and 3" Combat Elite I had that same problem. Would not work itself out so I sent them both back to Colt to fix which they did. I love the new Python as I've got several of the old ones but in reality it's disappointing that in my case 22% of these guns had problems as Hickok noted. On the SS 4" the medallion on the grips fell out so they sent me a new set of grips. I still have two Pythons a second 3" SS & 4" blue that I've not shot. For a $1300 gun you would expect it to be "ready to go" out of the box. Disappointing but maybe that's just the times as I've also had the same issues with S&W and Rugers.

Interestingly, a guy at my local gun range had a similar issue with his brand new Python; first six rounds it just didn't want to turn smoothly.
He used some compressed air to blow any dirt out of the mechanism, applied a royal dose of lube, and no more issues.

To me - the quality and workmanship that went into the older revolvers (Colt, SW, etc.) are simply superior to the newer guns and why I prefer them. I know some will bring up issues like forcing cones (SW), etc. but I still prefer them. The reality is most of these older revolvers are works of art and most of these new pistols are not made and refined by artisans.

The design is more durable and has about 6 less parts than the original Python. I think if you clean it when you get it and replace the rear sight with a Wilson aftermarket steel sight made for it. I love that the Anaconda 2020 because it actually uses an enlarged 2020 Python design rather than the old Anaconda based on the King Cobra using a coil spring action.

I've had numerous chances to buy a python back in the day.
    I've bought a S&W 586 instead.
S&W brought it back a few years ago.
In the Stainless Steel version Model 686.
It was alot more than I paid for my unit.

Colt had the choice to produce a modern Python EXACTLY as the original, but they chose NOT to. When a company is fortunate enough to produce a product that becomes iconic and they reproduce it years later, they "shoot themselves in the foot" in the minds of the many who spent years hoping to buy a brand new model just like the old one.

Fit and finish are excellent on my 2020 model 6” stainless. Only disappointment is the single action trigger which is much too heavy in my opinion. My S&W 686 and Kimber K6 are far superior in this department. In fact, of my other half a dozen or so revolvers in single action including a few Rugers are all better. The double action isn’t bad however.
