Unfortunately I had to edit out a section of the video due to a copyright claim. Here's the section that's missing for anyone wondering: Whilst the internet wasn’t exactly new by the time Minecraft was in development it was nowhere near as advanced and streamlined as it is today. To quote wikipedia “the rapid technical advances that would propel the internet into its place as a social system which has completely transformed the way humans interact with each other, took place during a relatively short period from around 2005 to 2010”. This was a time when technology was still new and not as completely integrated into our lives as it is today. These myths in old minecraft were becoming popular at the end of this period and so whilst any time afterwards people would just dismiss them instantly. Back in 2010 they were less likely to fact check or research for themselves instead they often chose to believe what they heard or saw. Today herobrine might just be a joke but at the time lots of people genuinely believed he was in the game. So now we come back to deadsk1nmask’s video “Very strange house in Minecraft that I did not build”. Also it's not 4 months between August and November that's my bad lol Hope you enjoyed the video regardless :)
Great video and I can confirm that we genuinely believed herobrine to be true, being notchs dead brother and all. Me and a friend actually set up a server just to look for him. I still remember us coming across naturally occurring cobble stone where lava and water met and gaslighting ourselves into thinking it was placed by herobrine. Must have been in like 2011 I think. Simpler times lol.
@@JM-mg4el Yeah I remember doing something similar, setting up a survival world to find herobrine lol. Thanks for commenting and glad you liked the video :)
Something else worth noting about Alpha Minecraft is that mobs didn't make noises as they approached you. So they would sneak up on you if you let your guard down.
It really has. People try to say "oh it's just nostalgia and it actually sucked back then" but the game really has lost it's old arcadey dungeon crawler look and more importantly it's simplicity. Old Minecraft was peak.
@@lumbagoboi1649 And those small narrow cave systems we had until 1.7.2 that went on forever constantly branching and intersecting! Some called it swiss cheese or spaghetti caves. But whatever you want to call it, I prefer the 1.6.4 and earlier caves far more than the 1.18 style occasional massive rooms that go hundreds of blocks in every direction, sometimes even further than my view distance. They're just TOO big! And we don't get those crazy massive systems anymore.
To see what I'm talking about with the "old minecraft caves" thing, I've got a perfect and easy example for you: start up Minecraft in vanilla 1.6.4 and use the seed -6923329256941061233 It's a great seed with a massive cave network right near spawn and you'll never see anything like it in newer versions of Minecraft. Do yourself a favor and take 5 minutes and test it out. Just see for yourself.
nostalgia is real, but at least it's possible to enjoy this time these versions of the game while reminiscing about when we were the age we were when they first came out. great video!
Excellent video. The peculiar atmosphere of old minecraft can feel very ephemeral, but I think you did a great job of pinning it down and explaining where it comes from here. Also I hadn't heard about the mystery house video before and I love that it was actually real because of that glitch. That's amazing.
It is definitely hard to describe the feeling of old minecraft but I tried my best, glad you think I did a good job lol. Yeah I really wanted to include the mystery house video as I thought it was a really interesting story :)
The idea that random chunks from deleted worlds and servers you join can spawn in newly created worlds is honestly a fantastic feature. Imagine if instead of having the same handful of structures over and over, we actually had stuff made by other players show up in our worlds.
here before this blows up⭐ growing up I used to play pocket edition with my friends and would always try to freak them out by placing random blocks or breaking leaves off trees and freaking out like it was herobrine. sometimes I'd accidentally scare myself lol. back when the worlds were extremely limited and the fog was in full effect, before bedrock edition was a thing. great video
the weird glitches and the intentional horror elements (cave sounds and disc 13), combined with the fact many players, especially children, didn't know much about how programming and computers worked made stuff like herobrine seem quite plausible. the scary thing was that no one knew how he worked or if he existed at all. was he a hacker, a virus, a secret part of the game code, a bug, or an actual curse? you also couldn't really disprove he was in your world because minecraft worlds are infinite (since infdev), thus the only thing you could find were world generation anomalies that made him seem more plausible instead of less. personally, i never really believed in herobrine, but i remember there was a time when i was not 100% sure. but i do remember being scared by the cave sounds and even just the normal mobs.
Thanks for the great comment, totally agree with everything you said. I liked what you said about how hero brine couldn’t be disproved straight away due to the worlds being infinite.
I 100% remember being 7 and so scared of Herobrine I stayed in a villager house and rarely left, I even refused to go near the windows. I just played like that for hours.
Someone recently got to the conclusion that OP was playing on a pirated version, and that the deleted world bug happened. One other guy had the exact same "strange house" show up in his alpha game, too. This would be like, the house of the original guy who provided the pirated version. While not full on creepypasta Herobrine stuff, still a notable intrusion by another player's "ghost" in a space where you thought you were alone
You can't find Herobrine if you install mods back in Beta because Herobrine only existed in the META-INF file ;) Was also cool to see you cover the thing about duplicating chunks cause even I as a early teenager remember hearing about some data overload or file corruption thing where you could intentionally or accidentally merge 2 worlds together, like a super prehistoric way of MCEditing 2 different worlds together. Nice to know it was another one of those weird things that turned out to be real.
When I play my beta world i catch myself feeling a little uneasy every now n then because its just me, couple of animals and monsters in this world, and to suddenly see something different would make me have an actual heart attack, now in new minecraft i dont have this feeling at all cause i get bothered by wandering traders almost every day 🌚 Also, great video!
I don't know if it's myself being overreacting but i will never ever go outside in a minecraft alpha night, is one of the scariest thing ever seen ON UNIVERSE (the part of the scariest thing seen in universe is sarcasm but i really have a lot of dear to those nights) Also i have the dumb fear that- Oh sorry i'm a weak dispositive *crashes* even tho that only happened on an old computer on 1.13 and BY PUTTING A TURTLE, hmmm maybe i have a lot of fear due to that, and while you might think it's just a crash... I HAVE A LOT OF FEAR OF CORRUPTIONS even tho i have seen corruptiona, like new chunks, but i still have fear! And i did it intentionally, also being on a dispositive like a tablet makes it even scarier on my opinion, it's like dude, i can even hold it in my hands, i won't see everything around me, and coming back to the nights... i still have fear if i put it in peaceful, and coming back to the other things... the most i update the game, the more i get lost... it's a sad and even kinda weird feeling (more sad than weird) having to sadly loose a world hurts me... if i were on creating the game i would seriously put on achievements something like New achievement Where is this place?: Walked over 1000 stone blocks... also yeah i play it in a tablet, lol (pojavlauncher) is free and on play store :v
I think one of the things that contribute most to the liminal feeling is the fact that you expect someone else to be there - these places are almost never seen empty and because in liminal pictures there are no people, your brain fills in the blanks and imagines someone else being there. Same goes for Minecraft - most people watched at least a let's play or played multiplayer, which makes singleplayer alone kinda like playing a abandoned server - your brain expects someone else to be there and fills in the blanks. But why are they hiding? What are their motives? Your brain feels threatend and it decides to help you by giving you "the creeps", which makes you more attentive and more aware. It's also beneficial to consider potential dangers as dangers, so you start perceiving normally harmless things as potential dangers Ik this video is 3 months old, but I really wanted to leave my thoughts for some reason. I hope anyone reading my comment found it interesting :3
Hey I’ve seen a couple of your videos and a question came to mind Why is your alpha world in 1.2.3 instead of 1.2.6? Is this just a weird choice of yours or did something change between those 3 versions?
Hey, I started my world in an earlier version of Alpha and then updated it a couple times to 1.2.3 which I haven't experienced any bugs with so I just stuck with it. I have nothing against 1.2.6 though I've just never felt the need to update any further. Hope this answers your question! :)
really cool video, tho i SWEAR you changed the title today or yesterday from "Old School Minecraft is a horror game" to the current one, as I have an old tab open from like 2-3 days ago that shows the old name.

He's not my brother, he was me.

Yeah, very true that adds to it as well!
Two scariest things while mining: tool breaking sound, and skeleton suddenly shooting and hitting you
I miss the emptiness. I miss the fog. I miss the old textures.
Minecraft isn't the same game it was back in 2010.
It definitely isn't the same but I think there's still a lot to appreciate about the new versions even if I personally prefer the old ones

VHS was not "long gone" by 2010, it was still an extremely popular format. Though it was not often used to record gameplay on consoles.
