Welcome to Canada. Send us the bill, we’ll pay it. And we are sorry for putting that customs booth where we did. Our bad. Again, we are so sorry.
😂
🤣
Sew sarrie!🤣
Apology accepted 😃
To funny
I’m so sorry that I didn’t express how sorry I was when I heard how negligent we were with the placement of that booth. Thankfully J R is here to apologize for us all. Thank you J R. And again, sorry 🫤
Hey Emma,
As a professional truck driver I’ll tell you the things happen all the time. Pumping your mirror? Not that big of a deal. Is it a pain, yes. You handled that situation as well as any seasoned driver could. Did well. You can chalk it up as a lesson. It always cost money to go to school, today it just cost you a little bit. Enjoying your videos so much, thanks for the ride along and be safe
thank you! that does make me feel a lot better hahah
I've bumped mirrors even had a rear door come off when I was backing a trailer up at a dock. I also turned into car on my passenger side in Toronto. My first tour bus driving job I had. Leave room if the vehicle in front breaks down and get out of seat before attempting to turn right. Make sure there's nothing in your blind spot.
@@EmmaBuildsBirbie yep, offside mirrors take a lot of hits.
They're often a pain to fix so you _try_ not to whack them off anything but it happens anyway.
😂😂Emma, you do make me laugh, you're actually a really good story teller. I'm sorry you has such hassle but you survived to tell the tale with a smile on your face - Bravo! I will now wait impatiently for the next instalment. 😊😊
Emma, I suggest you pick up a 6x4 spare mirror on a suction cup mount and put in your tool box. Useful when your working in tight spots and useful when you rip your o/side mirror off your truck(ask me how I know) 😜.
You handled it well. Well done
I had a diesel pusher I had made into a camper. I always said if the motor died, buy a lot, sell as a condo!
OMG ! 🤣😂🤣 You are SO precious ! 🫣At first I was scared to hear your story but then when you “crashed” into Canada, I was laughing so hard ! 🤣Canadians are awesome. Just remember to always carry duct tape and bailing wire… you can fix almost anything !
As long as you are in the Pacific Northwet, you should run down the 101 and see some of the prettiest scenery you could possibly see, as you drive around mount Olympus in the Olympic national park, and along the pristine Pacific coastline. It will not disappoint. You could stop off in Forks and decide, team Jacob or team Edward? I recommend staying in mora campground ($24/night) and visiting LaPush. First beach is ruggedly beautiful. The Hoh rainforest is gorgeous too.
Oh to be young again!! Just know that when you get old things like crashing into Canada don't bother you so much anymore, it's like OK that just happened but I'm still breathing, LOL!!
Emma, you're a brilliant storyteller. Raising the ordinary to the epic; with lots of humour and insight along the way. I've purchased a virtual ticket 🎫 on you bus route.
Just take a breath Emma and relax you will be just fine ☺️ Great Video enjoy yourself in Canada and just relax you've got this 👍
As a former bus driver we had a lot of mirror accidents. Darn things just stick out too far. Some wern't my fault. I'd be parked by the curb and a truck would come by and break my mirror. I finally got in the habit of pulling my mirror in during my break. Another thing you have to watch is your tail swing. One time I was parked with a light pole by the bus, and when I pulled out , I turned a sharp left and hit the back of the bus on the pole.
Excellent story telling.
Makes me glad I chose a smaller vehicle.
Definitely a thumbs up 👍
Hello Emma i hope you love Canada and Vancouver i hope you can make it to Vancouver Island its is a beautiful place .The ferry ride is a little bit expensive. Me and my wife live on the island and we own a 32ft motorhome and there are some places you can stay overnight . Have fun and be safe
This 'visit' was so well done. I was right there with you when the engine was not starting. Heart was in my throat. Kinda' happened to me in our motor home, some time back. The engine (gas) died while I was paying a bridge toll. Cranking away while the booth attendant was calling a tow truck. Pedal to the floor (air) and she started as the tow driver was stepping out of his cab to hook me up! ($$$$$) Whew!
I did not see that ending coming! I like how you basically forced yourself to calm down and have a good time. Nice work.
Oh no you didn't leave us hanging like that!!! Great video, you are the kind of brave most people wish they were.
All the knowledge and tricks you learned building Birbie is the reason you can conquer anything thrown at you. DId a great job, you look more happy than stressed. Enjoy your trip.
Emma, be careful and stay safe, until next week!!!
I wish I had known you were having troubles, my son knows how to weld and I live about 5 or 10 minutes from the border crossing you came through. When you are in Canada look for a store called Canadian Tire, they have more automotive stuff and have repair shop. Safe travels to you and Birbie.
Sorry to hear of your troubles, but welcome to Vancouver and hope you enjoy your stay. If the bus problems persist Travco RV in Burnaby gets top recommendations. And if you are stuck for a place to overnight Home Depot will let you (I work at one in Port Coquitlam) and we always have a few rigs. Just park on the outskirts. Hope you enjoy your stay.
Travco is good but expensive. Lynch Bus lines in Burnaby maybe able to help.
You tell a video diary exceptionally well. Welcome to Canada! Try listening to CBC 690 AM radio and Stephen Quinn from 5:00 AM to 8:30 AM. He's quirky and entertaining. Your skill of patience and breaking down big problems into many little problems is very valuable. Looking forward to your next video.
"Reaping the rewards of urban bussing" - 'glad it ended up working out for you, that day in Vancouver. After a couple aggravating experiences, and even though I live in nearby Bellingham, WA, I now avoid driving those terrible streets of Vancouver. By the way, you're an articulate story-teller.
Good job with the JB Weld. Now you need some wiring loom to clean things up.
This is hilarious. The definition of Adventure? "Agony in retrospect."
Emma , I too love your videos and wished there was a new one everyday !! So after your summertime trips, you will have a lot of info for when you go back 'home' (wherever that may be) to begin working on phase 2 of 'Building Birbie' ... I CAN'T WAIT !! Have a great day ❤❤❤❤!!
The anxiety of waiting for "THE KNOCK" leaves urban campers dozing instead of sleeping. Welcome to nomadic life. The mirror, an Emma rig, instead of GERRY rig. Thnx Have fun!
Not long started watch this video after work and thought to myself it's such a calming disaster story 😆
Almost making me drift off into a dreamy adventure land ✨️
I hope the mirror stays stuck and keep up the good work 👏 🙏 🌟
I like this "story time with Emma" format. . . . Nice cliff-hanger! 🙂
Vancouver is super-sticky about parking on the right side of signs. I've had a few tickets where my car was literally 2 inches past the sign.
Thanks for the video!
Emma,. Been following you sense day 1 ...you do tell a good story❤️
It's impossible not to love your adventures...keep being Emma
Your great ❤️🙏
It's since, not sense. English your second language?

Ok, gotta explain myself. I retired 2 years ago. I worked in a medical research lab for over 30 years. Everyone a doctor both PhD and medical. I wrote a status report every Monday and it was in the owners door when he got in. He was real big on spelling and grammar. I never made a mistake until one day. I said "This is becoming a torn in my foot". I used torn instead of thorn. The owner always got in at 9am and I know he looked forward to reading my status report. At 9:05 he came running over to my office to make fun of me. He had never seen me make a mistake on my reports. He died recently and was the nicest person you would ever meet.
Sometimes the lessons we learn are the hardest ones you can, but at least you have video prof and your able to review and not repeat, in theory.
Emma, no need to be embarrassed … life is an ongoing learning experience and your followers love being a part of your journey 🥰. Keep on keeping on, girl … you got this 😘✌❤!!
I've watched a few of your videos and enjoyed each one but this one earned my subscription. This is how adventures are and your honest portrayal makes me smile 😁
OMG I need a prozac after this episode! Emma you are awesome.
Really enjoying your video. The expression on your face make me laugh so much. When you get bad time just remember of ALL the good one and all the lovely place you have been and going to see. Keep your chin up and smile x
“you have to be in crisis to do anything. Or is that just me?” No. It’s me too. Fun video to watch!
Emma, your stories are awesome. My wife and I are planning on spending a great deal of time in a truck camper in a couple of years when I retire. We just spent our first two weeks out west earlier this summer driving 6,500 miles. The places you have been so far have been inspiring and amazing. Keep up the incredible work. You’re doing great!
Fantastic video! The mirror thing is interesting. I'd suggest calling up a school and asking for the bus barn. The people who work on buses every day would know where to get a new mirror, or could even help you with the one you have. Luckily, there are schools pretty much everywhere and the buses are maintained locally. Perhaps that knowledge will help you in the future.
"I crashed into Canada , the nicest country" lmao . I'm sorry for laughing but the way you described the situation was priceless.
Really well put together 🎥 ! Im patiently waiting for part 2 of your Canada tour !
This is great. I am almost done building my trailer into my home. I've learned a lot from you and you have helped my build. Duct tape is gold for that kind of stuff. I drove dump truck for 20 years and yeah, I've broke mirrors. It happens. You handled that perfectly. The motor not starting was scary for you huh? Mystery. You are doing great.
You tell a mighty fine story Emma! Thanks for the ride lady!
Lol. You little devil! The Mom in me needs the rest of the story!!! ❤
Absolutely love your videos.... but as the mother if a female van lifer...wondering if I can handle worrying about both of you! ☺
The "let me be extra clear " , sounds like your impersonating a Canadian politician. Awsome thanks for sharing.
And the 3 corresponding aunts as well as my 14 yr old aunt,,about 5 cousins did a 5 day trip to Vancouver. I remember lots of specific things from that trip.. Best memory blankie,,my moms parents. I remember laughing with my Grandpa and cousin riding the chairlifts up Grouse mtn. My Grandpa died when I was 10,,,so this was a superb memory thank you Emmerling,,,for bringing this to my mind by saying "Stanley Park"
It's so cool to see you go to all places that I know in Vancouver! Great story telling with a good cliff hanger at the end :)
Wow! Now that is an adventure...
Emma, I am originally from British Columbia. I lived in Vancouver for many years before moving to Ontario. I have also lived throughout most of the provice, and experienced every region of B.C.
If I may, I would highly reccomend you spend time in the province exploring. It is unequivelqually one of the most beautiful, and adventurous regions on Earth.
I really enjoyed this video.........
Welcome to Canada , dear Emma. Followed you from the day you came ''home'' with the bus and through all of the ''fixing it''. Wish you all the fun , adventure and discoveries you want. Should you decide, one day to make it to Eastern Canada, may as well make it to Montreal (where I am now) and the Maritime provinces. Lots to see there as well. Be safe and enjoy !
Love your videos. My daughter is 26 I'm trying to talk her into doing what you're doing. When you think of something you need to do. Write it down then it's stored in two spots in your brain and also on paper. Love you and your attitude. XO ✌️
Emma - absolutely love your videos. You're a perfect example of "patience conquers all potential disasters " 😀 Always looking for your next episode of "The wheels on the bus go round and round" lol. I'd be able to enjoy more of your adventures if you could speak just a bit slower - we old foggies get a bit lost when you talk sooooooo fast. If you can, try to visit Buchard Gardens, not positive I spelled that right. Some of the rarest and most beautiful plant life on this great earth. Also, the drive between Vancouver and Vernon B.C. is the most awesome scenery I have ever seen - and I have visited every continent!!! There, that's my two cents worth for today lol. Terry - Seattle
Loved this weeks “Adventures with Emma”. You are so entertaining. Xoxo
My dad once took a trip to Vancouver for his work, and he can relate to the traffic nightmares you experienced. And as for embarrassing border crossings. We once took a trip to Pennsylvania and ended up buying so much stuff that we couldn't fit my mom's extra suitcases of clothes in the car with my mom and dad and I. So we had to put them in the second vehicle that my brother and a friend were in. I clearly remember everyone half joking/ half seriously being worried about getting searched and the Canada Customs guys finding, to quote my brother, "Suitcases of women's clothes, and two dudes in a Jeep." 🤣🤣. I now realize we could have just told my mom to swap vehicles if we were that worried, but we were probably exhausted from packing up that day. Welcome to Canada! I hope you enjoy your stay with us!
Welcome to BC ! ! ! Vancouver is great, like all big cities it's crowded, congested and costly, I'm sure you have a great plan/route, but if you're looking for suggestions head south towards Tswassen for Ocean or even better take the Ferry over to Vancouver Island. If you want Mountains head North towards towards Garibaldi or East towards Agassiz. Safe and happy travels !
Muffler shops all have welders and most of them are willing to help with smaller projects as needed. Good luck on your travels, your videos are awesome and very entertaining.
This was stressful to watch.
I can only imagine how stressful it was for you.
Amazingly, the kindness of strangers can save you in these situations.
Don’t be shy about asking for direction and help.
Best Of Luck.
Welcome to Canada. Your bus is a palace compared to a lot of the vehicles we have up here lol. Enjoy your stay.
THANK GOOODNESS! YOU DID NOT SELL YOUR BUS!!! see where you are now? you are so cool girl!!
Looks like you and I have the same luck LOL. You are definitely a brave girl so I see a great channel in the making!!! Can't wait till the next video.
dont fret toll type booths get clipped often and mirrors get knocked off trucks and busses as well as rv very often that's why all ports stores sell replacement mirrors
Buses and trucks normally cross at Pacific Hwy. There's truck, bus entrance.
You crashed into Canada and I didn't even feel it!
Urban bus life wouldn't be for me either. I'm a careful driver, but I don't need added stress...
I've started cleaning up and recycling a lot of stuff I don't need in my apartment. I'm slowly downsizing, thinking of the day I'll make the jump and move into a bus too! Enjoy Canada! We're happy to have you here, even if you drive a little too close to our buildings!
Emma, Emma, Emma you sure know how to brighten one’s Sunday morning. This story has your name all over it. Emma’s law we can call it. How unlikely it may seem some sort of trouble does find you. But as always you regroup, find a solution and come out of it stronger. As the other comments already stated you do know how to tell as story. The smile on my face did not go away a moment. You made my day as always and I thank you for that. You’re a ray of sunshine that flows directly into your heart and warms it. For sure you’ll make friends on your trip. Can’t imagine any better friend than you. Many happy km’s in Canada and stay safe. 👌🇳🇱
Dear Emma, I'm glad you made it across the border safely. and didn't break Canada.
Don't worry Emma. Worrying just won't get you where you're going. Stop being nervous too. I couldn't do what you're doing! You are amazing! Crashing into Canada...sounds funny...but isn't funny. Perhaps Canada will be way fun and gorgeous. You go girl.
My sister lives in Ladner BC, 'AKA South Delta'... She used to also own a house in Blaine Washington.. Hope BC was enjoyable..
This just keeps getting better⚠
Great story telling! Can't wait to hear about your next adventures.
brave young lady you are !❤🙏🌻
I love these Emma Burps Birbie stories!
I loved Vancouver. And, I think the road in that park is in some ancient video game (which I used to play). At least I think that's the park.
Hahahaha very funny and thanks for the good words about Canada, "Bienvenue au Canada Emma !!!!" (I'm from Montreal :))
Your bus is not trashy and please stop putting yourself down, you have accomplished so much on your own. I am so impressed you built your bus and you can do the cosmetic work when you have time, I can't even build a book shelf lol.
Warning, downtown Vancouver traffic is not for the faint of heart. But I do dearly love the city of Vancouver and Canada in general. I am from a bit south of Seattle in rural Southeast King County.
well done , always keep duck tape , handy at all times , you did well with the mirror i would have done the same and possibly others as well . if this cannot be fixed , drill a hole screw in the hole and try holding the mirror holder with a bending wire , if you cannot find a bending wire use a co hanger aluminium , and then apply any epoxy to harden the surface . you are right about the dangling wires , use the duck tape and seal them on the body so you are clear in sight. the starting problem might be the engine is cold not a problem . once you are safe in the usa , make sure you check on your fuel filter you might have some clearing to do . and always keep you tank full , once the fuel get to the minimum or to the bottom of the tank the fuel is not so clean . enjoy your stay in canada ... cheers
The best place for vanlifers is Spanish Banks (Kitsilano) just across the Burrard Bridge from Downtown. People live there in skoolies and big trucks. The area where you were parked (Stanley Park) and the tiny streets (West End) is an upscale, residential area (it's in fact the most expensive neighborhood in Canada). Also very touristy and parking is scarce and overpriced. Just fyi ❤
You are awesome!! Very relatable. Thank you for sharing your journey
" I crashed into Canada".... Ah Bless you Emma.... I couldn't help but laugh🤣🤣. Fair play for owning up to that. Just remember, these are all life experiences and stories that you can tell way into the future...And laugh your head off about👍🏻😁🙂
Find some JB Weld and DIY fix till you can get areal weld…. Ok just saw the part where you did that, Brilliant!!!
A few years ago I learned that maximum vehicle width in the good 'ol U.S. of A. Was 8', plus mirrors.
In Canada, it was 8' including the mirrors.
A mere curiosity I always wondered about. Until today.
Emma, don't feel so special. When I started out in my bus, I took out a snow stake with my mirror at 30 miles per hour. Very spectacular. I know how you feel.
Well, that was an adventure to remember. Ever thought about doing some planning before making a trip? But you did very well even with loosing the use of a rear view mirror. Thanks for sharing and have a grand day.
she showed planning, right the way through to picking a parking spot before setting out!
Watch more carefully before leaving adverse comments.
@@alanhat5252 Some see and notice right off the bat and some don't. Guess I am not as observant as you. Thank you for pointing that out.
Great video Emma,... Accidents happen so don't worry yourself about clobbering your mirror, it happens all the time with trucks & buses,...lol
Welcome to Canada. Hope you enjoy it here.
Oh Emma! That sounds like something that would happen to me, and I am a truck driver. I think everyone one that drives something massive loses at least one mirror at some point (and if they say no they are probably lying!) Don’t feel bad about it, stuff happens, no one was injured but Birbie and your pride a bit scuffed. Nice story telling on this one and the little cliff hanger. I’m going to be getting an RV or converting a bus in the near future so I can retrace my trucking trips and check out all the cool places I couldn’t explore while trucking for cash.
thank you for saying this 😂 and that sounds so cool, good luck!
I'm in Surrey BC and I hate driving in Vancouver. They are more bicycle friendly.
Anticipation!!!!!!! Can't wait.
Lololo I'm a truck driver and I've been across the Canadian border a few times that's precious
If you look in the local properties for sale in downtown Vancouver you will find single parking spaces for sale in the low 6 figures [ cdn. $]. It is nuts .
You naughty girl leaving us hanging like that lol.Im glad your finally having some fun in Vancouver
lol, dude, same. Hey, I love your chair, btw. I'm glad you worked it out tho
Sounds like the old maxim, "necessity is the mother of invention" was applicable in pertaining to your mirror situation. Hope your stress meter went back to zero and you enjoyed your stay in Vancouver. Can't wait to hear about it next week.
Aww poor thing. Lol good lesson though. Glad ya made it through 😊
Glade thing's are looking up. Maybe you should of just stayed in good old Washington State a few more day's. And I do hope the rest of your Canada stay goes wonderful!!! Can't wait to see next week's adventure.
Thanks, Emma. I love your videos! I only wish you they came everyday.
Have Fun!
Well, you know, Emma, it happens.. Sometimes you can't really keep everything in check.. The only thing you missed when explaining the mishap is the sound "hwa, hwa, hwa hwaaaaa", you know, the unsuccess one.. Would be more genuine to back a mishap. Da, you have to get used to the width of the bus, as it's tricky to center a hole in between, mirrors included.. =) Anyway, look at it positive, you at least made it to Canada..This is the price of a traveling life... One advice though, which is for life - keep always I mean ALWAYS handy a toolbox with some tools like a drill + bits, a hammer, some punches, possibly a tread cutter set, pliers, vise grips, some rags, some solvent, a set of sockets and rachets, some water, hand cleaning abrasive soap and tire puncture repair kit. It's so often handy dandy... Since you have a bus should not be a feat to find a place for it.. Beyond that, when something goes seriously wrong, try to get some help. Well, it seems you got some mishaps this time.. Cheers, though, you're doing great. Remember to check also the engine bay from time to time and look, if there is something that catches your eye.. 😉👍
Every shop I know would gladly weld or put some self tappers in your mirror. XD You'd be surprised by Canadian mechanics.
Edit: Honestly you can park anywhere you won't immediately inconvenience anyone and you'll be totally fine. I've parked in no parking zones more times than I can count and never got a ticket or towed. Also, you best friend is probably a Walmart. You could park there for a month and no one would bat an eye.
Edit 2: North Van sucks to drive through too. The roads are bigger for the most part but traffic and construction are a nightmare. Also would like to say the BC's interior region is a great place to adventure if you're looking for much less stressful times. Would highly recommend checking out Penticton, Kelowna, Vernon. All have great beaches and plenty of hiking etc.
Sounds like quite the adventure.
🤣🤣🤣. Can’t wait till next week ❣️
I'd be worried about getting back into US. A friend from college converted a bus into an RV and the DOT at US boarder refused reentry due to a mirror not correctly attached and exposed wires. Hope you make it back in. and a luggage rack added to the rear made the bus too long by 3/4 of an inch for a class B vehicle.
Your way 1000 times better at handling critical decisions than a few months ago .... And that is lovely to watch
I'm sorry that you messed your mirror up, but Mark it down as a lesson learned .
Thanks for the story, I love to hear you talking .
🤗👍💖💫
Welcome to Canada!!! Come down east!!!! Nova Scotia or bust!!!! Lol
