GRACIAS!
Watching him become an American reminds me so much of watching my kids grow up and feeling the wonder of discovery all over again.
I got that exact feeling watching him eat the S'more!
What a beautiful comment I feel the same way
Hi Yoel and Mari! I am the guy in Alabama who sent you the S'mores kit in the mail. So happy you found a good use for it. Yoel's reaction was perfect!
It always hits me hard when Yoel gets the faraway look in his eyes and you know he's thinking of the people in Cuba who don't have access to things we take for granted. Just that look makes it the most difficult of every video for me. Like him, I wish everyone in the world could have access to the same things.
Agreed. I am so happy for him, yet sad for his family...his people. And sad for the Americans that take this all for granted.
😮 YOEL HAS ALREADY MASTERED THE SCIENCE AND ART OF PERFECT TENT PACKING!!!! 😮
hahahahaha
A rarity😅😊❤
Its always fun to see how happy he gets for simple pleasures, then goes right to heartbreak as he feels bad for those still in Cuba, that won't experience it.
thas is true
I’m sorry you got rained-out! Camping is my favorite way to spend a vacation. I cook breakfast over a campfire (there is NO better smell in the world than bacon cooking on a fire) but we eat out at night so it’s easier for packing plus I get a break from cooking. Always bring clothes to keep you warm. It’s crazy how cold it gets even if it was a 100 degrees that day! The more you camp, the easier it is. You will be able to set up your campsite quickly and you’ll know exactly what to pack. I hope you go again. In my experience people who camp are the nicest, down to earth people there are!
The south during the summer doesn’t get cold, it could stay in the mid-80’s all night. Hard to sleep outside when it’s that hot and humid
@@HBC423 that’s when you go glamping with a portable a/c!
You are very right, it is something special to do, it is worth achieving
The tent is a perfect size. It was large enough to put the table and chairs in.
Camping in the rain still beats staying home.
Yeah but there's nothing worse than rolling up a wet, muddy tent... and then having to set it back up at home to clean and dry it.
A small two-person tent would have been easier to pitch and a lot warmer.
Jaja it was because it was only tent we saw at Costco!!
@@YoelAndMari yeah costco doesn't have small tents. Walmart does. and if you want a higher quality tent of any size bass pro or cabelas has you covered
@@SubieNinja I highly recommend Cabelas or the Eddie Bauer company as good sources for tents.
That's a big tent! I'm impressed - but more impressed that Yoel got it all rolled up neatly again. Rain happens. It's nice that you got out, even for one night. Next time rent a small RV. The weather won't matter and we can see how Yoel likes that bit of American life.
thanks for the advice
I just wanted to say thank you both for this amazing documentary of your lives, depicting the plight of Cuba and the importance of freedom and liberty for those who have no voice. As an American, I salute you both! You are making a difference. We hear you and we hear Cuba!
When he said " I constructed my first house in the United States" lol 😂 when he said " I feel like a kid in the movies" 😍 I just love how Yoel takes it all in. Looks like you both had an amazing time! ❤️
Your "roughing it" in the woods is probably way more comfortable and with way more luxuries than the average person has to live real life in Cuba. That's sayin' something! Keeping the Cuban people in my prayers (as always). Glad Yoel got to experience this!
Very true!
I love the way Yoel always sees the positive when we would probably complain!!! Love you guys! Can’t wait for the next video!
It looks like you had an American style camping trip.
Everyday leading up to the camping the weather is perfect, Then when you actually go out in the woods and camp......then the bad weather comes.
But remember S'mores makes a bad camping trip...great
S'mores solves everything, especially campfire s'mores.
You guys are awesome and amazing!!!!
Smores...nectar of the Gods. Peace, Love!!
yesssssss i like nectar of the gods
@6:00, I can’t believe how emotional I got watching Yoel eat and react to a S’more for the first time
Y'all, watching Yoel learn about life here is always a mix of joy and pain. Knowing that these joys are denied to people in Cuba is saddening, but seeing how much he enjoys it reminds me that we shouldn't take what we have for granted. That is, I think, the hardest part, because he is reminding some of us of the fact that we truly are victims of our own success. Keep going, Yoel. May the Lord bless your efforts, and may He remind us of the blessings we bear through your witness.
*PRO-TIP 3* Make sure your shoes are well broken in before hiking. Some people buy the shoes off the rack and set right out, only to find their feet all blistered before the end!
Yes! My mom used to be a park ranger and she had books by Larry Weill in our house. I remember one of them including this gory story of him wearing boots that hadn’t been broken in enough.
@@coollady2179 Or just rent a cabin, instead. :)
Lol. Glad you guys had a good time. When I was a kid growing up in West Virginia, my parents love to take us camping in a lot of different state parks. Unfortunately, me, my brother and sisters ended up on a rock bed and open air in a sleeping bag. Even though I was young and healthy it certainly took its toll LOL. So I got to say that you guys are a step up near to glamping LOL.
go camping with friends and families is very good and fun
Hint: glamping. is short for glamorous camping
Seeing you eat your first S’more brought tears to my eyes. 🥰
thanks
There is a tradition in Scouting that says if it rains on your first campout, you will have a successful Scouting career. It worked for my son, who earned his Eagle Scout rank and was elected to the Order of the Arrow. Here's hoping Yoel enjoys the same success!
Back when I was a Scout, we had a 3-day camping trip .. and I think it did *not* rain for maybe 4 or 5 hours out of the three days! I discovered that sleeping in a tent, with the rain pattering on the tent over you ... OMGosh! _So_ *very* relaxing! But yes, Mari, I too find it hard to sleep when I'm cold!
Two tips, for the next time: -1- bring some extra clothes that you can put on over the ones you're planning on wearing, so you are ready if it's cooler than expected (if you don't need them, then no problem!) ... -2- similarly, bring an extra blanket to sleep under, _just in case!_
And all experienced campers know the importance of always bringing 1 or 2 card-decks; so you have a way to pass the time if the weather isn't co-operative!! If you are camping in remote, 'way out in the sticks' areas (especially for 3+ days), you can buy card-decks that have 'survival tips' printed on them - in case things get serious! (It's a good idea to look-over/read the cards when you get them, so you have some idea what they mention!)
*Better luck next time!*👍
thanks for advice
That's a Way Better tent than We used growing up. Ours was Canvas.
What an awesome tent y'all. Been waiting for Yoel to try s'mores. Editing skills are top of the line guys. Thanks for taking us along with you. Love you guys.
hiii ron Thanks for watching!
as always that ET I do not forget hehehe
What fun.. great adventures and Yoel's open-eyed joy is heartwarming. Thank you.
thanks you Jeanie
@@YoelAndMari hey you guys! When are you coming to Virginia? I'd be honored to feed you guys on my dime. We have great food and things to see and do here as well. Let me know!
LEAVES OF THREE, LET THEM BE!!! I love your tent and accouterments! It's like you brought a studio apartment to the campsite!
I'm so glad he liked the s'mores...I'd have been worried if he hadn't. ❤️
I grew up camping and it is one of my favorite things to do. Nature, s'mores, fire, beers, going to bed and waking up early. Even the sound of rain on the tent. I've learned many valuable lessons camping. Make sure you have extra socks, and an insulated warm blanket or sleeping bag, Mari!! Sometimes, it's warm in the day, and freezing at night. Bring lots of alcohol just in case you need to ignore the weather and discomfort - lol. So glad to see Yoel doing things he's only seen in movies. The two of you are such a fabulous couple.
Nature is something unique in this plant and seeing it as it is done here is spectacular
One thing I learned early with camping is you can never pack enough sleeping bags & blankets!! You think 2 or 3 thick ones will be enough...your wrong!! pack more!!
I hope you give camping another try, hopfully with no rain next time!
Love seeing this adventure of becoming an American.
To handle the cold when camping, you sleep in the car! Smaller area but so much warmer. If still too cold, turn the car on and use the car heater to warm it up.
It's such a pleasure to watch Yoel enjoy with his whole heart what so many of us take for granted. I love watching his journey!
Lol that tent was no joke 😅 I'm glad you guys enjoyed yourselves despite the rain!
we always assume that what we do is normal around the world.
it brings a tear to my eye that something as simple as camping and a smore brings joy to a person from another country.
I loved this. New friend here. @Van Life Voyages sent me. We take our life for granted in the US. We have so many blessings that many in this world can only imagine.
Smores are so good ha! He makes me feel so grateful for everything 💛
My son is a boy scout. Next time you go camping, consider getting both of you cping cots. Much more comfy than sleeping on the ground. Also, some of the older scouts use a hammock instead of there are lots of trees.
Ah! The first-time camper's curse. 🌧️ My first time was with the Girl Scouts when I was 10 or so. I had this super cute red overnight bag that I packed all my clothes in. I was sharing a tent with 2 other girls. We got our sleeping bags set up and I put my bag up against the tent wall to keep it out of the way. It rained hard all night. It was nice listening to it as we tried to sleep. You know what happens in a canvas tent in the rain when you put something against the wall? Water soaks in. My red bag? The color ran as it got wetter and wetter and not only did my clothes get soaked. It was like I tye dyed them in shades of red and pink. 🤣 Like a murder scene. Funny now. But not when I was 10. Wearing damp stained clothes all day, I got sick and my parents had to come get me early. Feverish and miserable. 😅 Camping is so fun. 😆
I'm sorry it rained but at the end it's fun
I love camping, I went twice this summer and had fun both times. I'm from Massachusetts and we have a lot of state forests. Labor Day weekend some friends and I stayed at a campground close to some state forests in Western Massachusetts and we were able to do a short hike. It rained a little on our last night, but we had tarps to cover most of our campsite and sleeping areas. One of my friends uses a hammock, one has a 4-person tent, and I have a bivy. You will definitely need another camping trip to get the full experience.
we love to man is nice
Rain comes with the territory. Consider it an initiation 😉 A storm that threatens to tear your tent down in the middle of the night is an experience too!
that is true
Please set the tent up in the sunshine until it is really really dry or it will mildew. Loved the video.
I’m so sorry it rained you out! We have some gorgeous camping spots here in Arkansas, The Natural State. We’d love to have you camp with us sometime!
thanks for the invitation
The s'mores make up for the bad weather. Hopefully you can try camping again soon.
i hope
This was great! Thank you for your 1st experience video. Always fun to watch. Sorry you are no longer in your home nature....yet very happy you are now in America. The best of all Nations!
More to come!
You definitely have to have a do over trip. My family and I love camping, and have been doing it all of our lives. Make sure you have two really good, large sleep in ngbaga. You can zip them together to make one giant one, just like a bed. And always bring an extra blanket too. Hope you guys get out there and try it again real soon.🤗
We're a couple & have an instant cabin tent that size because we use a queen size air mattress & like to put a folding table & chairs inside. I also bring an electric blanket for those chilly nights. Anyway, now you guys need to watch the movie "The Long, Long Trailer" with Lucille Ball & Desi Arnez. It might make you want to try renting an RV.
Good thing you got the world’s largest tent, so you could set up your table inside and stay dry! If you go camping again, you should try to find a place right by the water and go with some friends.
As a former member of the GIRL SCOUTS of AMERICA, it's an amazing organization that educates and teaches young girls how to survive and thrive in the real world.
Camping is one of the many mental and physical activity that is done to teach the girls how to work together and earn badges for completing activities.
Girls from about ages 6-20 are able to participate in this life changing organization.
Enjoy!
Sporting goods store. You need the right sleeping bag to be able to be comfortable when you go out camping. On the boxes they have a temperature indicator so that way you know what temperature range to get. Just look at the weather forecast for the week you go camping and base the temperature off what you get from the box on the sleeping bag. You can still go camping in the rain you just need a heavy duty tarp. Some tents have carbs built on the bottom of them but that is something you have to look for and not every tent has them.
Love this! Get a rain tarp for your tent. That will help. Also - sleeping bags.❤
Yoel and Mari next time bring your friend that just arrived from Cuba , Love you guys and always be safe 🇨🇺 🇺🇸
That would make a great video.
Bring someone that has been a cadet or scout and knows about camping. Also bring someone fresh from Cuba.
It will be a great learning experience for all involved and make an excellent video.
i hope, thanks
Yoel’s sense of amazement is so Uplifting and Wonderful at what most of us take for granted. We should all be Amazed by the greenery of the great outdoors that God has created. His reaction to the S’mores was to be expected, everyone can remember their first S’ mores, we all had that look of Bliss! Mari, please continue to show him that there is so much more he has yet to experience. Love and Blessings to you Both!
i love the S more
You got dah beer. Camping supplies complete. Also before you both put up a tent like that, you need to share a big hug, cause sometimes, it can be stressful. My wife said Mari's smile is her "secret weapon".
Hang onto that girl, Yoel, she's a keeper!
Outdoor concert like country thunder
Big trucks show
Drag racing
So many more things to explore
Camping is more than an outing in the mountains...
IT'S WORK! So you enjoy the little time you have at night, because it's WORK to pack up again! And the smores as a dessert, (after a great steak on the fire, or hotdogs) I can barely eat 2 smores...but how the hot marshmallow melts the chocolate...
indulgent..👍💙🌺
Haha 'the joys of camping' is a well known expression in England. Camping in storms is part of the experience...
My husband refuses to try anything sweet. I appreciate the both of you and Yoels acceptance of trying everything.
Thanks for the wonderful video, you help me remember to be grateful for being born an American, I have always prayed for Cuba to be free !
Camping is the greatest therapy ever
Even with all of that crazy rain it still should have been awesome to see it pouring down. 😬
its all about the peace and company, hope you all enjoyed your time!
Awww.. Y'all are sooo cute.. This takes me back to my first smore.. ❤☺
thanks for see us
That tent was huge! It’s been years since I’ve been camping, but our tent was so much smaller and we only had a sleeping bag.
Just a suggestion - some type of ground 'cover' under the tent. So you don't poke holes in the floor. Glad he had a good time. Parents took us 4 boys camping every few years. Did a trip around Lake Michigan one year. Rolling up the tent - found a snake under it. LOL From then on - we where careful when taking the tent down. hahaha. Oh the memories - dad been gone now for 5 years. Mom is about 90 and no one seems to camp now in the family. Take care - Be safe
great memories and great fun time
Now, that is my kind of tent!!!
Hope y’all had a blast!
All the love from Mississippi!!
When i was younger we drove 300 miles to visit family and camped on our way there. the sound of rain pounding the tent is pretty intimidating. very unique experience that i'm guessing a lot of people in populated areas will never get to experience.
I love watching your adventures. They always make me happy. Love you two!
Thanks so much
Lol! I've been on a camping trip like this. But it gave me some GREAT stories! So glad y'all got to try it out.
Watching Yoel's have his first time amazing experiences (usually positive, occasionally not so great) is always exciting to watch and see the wonder and excitement and his responses and hear his commentary. (Sorry this comment is a bit late. YT quit giving me updates.)
First rule in camping is never set up the tent at home first to practice and ALWAYS show up when it’s raining. Glad y’all got to experience true camping!!!
Lol
hahahah yesss heheh good advice
I’m so glad you got to experience camping. We use to go camping with horses so we could go trail riding in the parks in Tennessee and Kentucky. Our children loved it. We’ve also gone camping by the lake with boats. So many memories.
Love the Equinox. Not sure why I don't like the Traverse and many others, but love this model! Excellent room for large sized people: Headroom and space galore.
Camping is hard for the first time. Practice makes perfect and when you bring friends and family its even better.
So happy for you guys
I used to camp with family and friends twice a year but age, obligations, and being rained out 3 times in a row killed it for us. I still have most stuff but haven't slept in a tent in nearly 20 years. Nice that Yoel can discover so many new things.
After setting up… You deserve a treat
LMAO 🤣...of course your first obstacle was the weather...Lesson#1 in camping: always check the weather forecast
5:14 ....that reaction is worth the view 😂
thank you for spreading love & joy and introducing him to smores ❤ next time, bring some beer/liquor and steaks or hotdogs next time
Tarps are really important for camping. To cover the tent to keep it dry, and to line the floor to keep it dry.
He said, "All this green. Perfect." He gets it. He understood the assignment right away.
Amazing how something so simple as a graham cracker, piece of chocolate and hot gooey marshmallow can bring such joy.
Can’t wait for “Yoel Expands His Mind With Shrooms” ☺️
that's an EFFING HUGE tent! holy cow. you can barely stand in my tent ⛺️ oh man... I might need a bigger one. my family has grown since the last time I camped
I know it is giant by God it is a building in the field
I learned from a camping experience in the rain... make sure that you OPEN up that tent and let it air out and dry thoroughly as soon as you come back. Don't leave it rolled up until the next time.
You've had a S'more. Your transition is almost complete 😆
Awesome video! Glad he's getting to experience so many things.
thanks see us Tracy
🤣🤣🤣 That was great, thank you! And oh my gosh, the tip on Avail, you are a life saver! I laughed so hard because I've lived in Phoenix for 6 years and I haven't seen rain like we've had this year. The fact that it happened while you were camping was just too coincidental. You're such troopers. I would've been so annoyed. Love you guys. You're my inspiration.
I've lived in AZ for 27 years and I don't think I can recall a monsoon that has brought this much rain. it has been crazy especially when compared to the last 5 or so years.
As a former Canadian Boy Scout, I approve this video!
Get a good, smaller and waterproof and enjoy cozy rainy nights together!
This was fun to watch! That was a nice tent. Keep on having fun!
thanks
I've been camping my whole life, since the age of 5 months, and I've only gotten rained on twice. I'm sorry that it happened on Yoel's first trip, but I hope you'll give it another try.
why sorry is cool nice
thanks for see us
On your 2nd attempt:
-bring simple quick pop-up tent
-bring friends
-check weather 😂
I will never take a s'more for granted again.
it's good to check the weather forecast on ur cell phone, before going camping.
that ir tru werner
When it stops raining, unpack and set the tent up to dry, or it will go moldy.
This makes me so so happy. ❤
Thank you for sharing all this joy.
His tiny little twig to roast the marshmallow 😂 hilarious
I love your videos, they always lift my mood.
Glad you like them! thanks
I love to see him thrive!
I used to go to Lower Wolf Creek in Prescott with my neighbor's family when we were kids. Central and Northern Arizona are beautiful. Hope you're able to do it again when weather permits. Grab a durable inflatable mattress if you didn't have one on this trip.
that's where we camped it's great
@@YoelAndMari We would go in August, and we've been stormed on before too. But if you go too early in summer, there are campfire restrictions.
Please come back to Cali, but come to the Bay Area and then go to Tahoe!! Y’all will love it ❤
Absolutely loved this! You two are awesome
Glad you enjoyed it!
