Yeah it's really absurd. My LG TV always shows some messages related to the "magic remote", but it has been impossible to find out what this is supposed to be. So I gave up a few days after using my brand new TV. Now, 4 years later, I gave it another try to figure out what my TV is talking about all this time.
It's like a proof of concept of bad usability. Well failed LG, well failed.
Very simple to follow, but detailed. I award you 10 stars out of 10. I appreciate that you had the remote and the tv in the shot. Nice job, and thank you for producing this video.

Just saying I work for an internet service provider and I got a call from a customer asking how to connect this device to their wifi and it is not in my scope of support to teach a person how to use their personal gadgets but thanks to this video showing me how to use the customers remoteand & TV I was then able then teach them how to use their device to connect to our services. Just saying thank you for this video you are an all star!!!
This is all so new to me. Your video helped immensely because there was absolutely NO instructions on my two new LG OLED televisions! Stupid. If only I had a hard copy of your explanations so I could actually READ all this info EASILY and quickly whilst using it and then memorizing its through practice.

You forgot the NFC function.
If you swipe your phone over the control the sound of the tv goes over the phone. This is great when using a headset (like with my Bose NC500).
Not all Magic Remotes support NFC. The one in the video does NOT (there is no logo at the bottom).

This video helps more than lg customer service because the previous remote had a dedicated on/off button for set top box.

Press the wheel to pause. Then left it right on Dpad.

Thank you for this video; I have direct TV and just purchased this LG with the remote MR21GC... I am on guide, I see no option to record anything on live TV. Does this remote offer that, or must I use my DTV remote to access remote? Seems cumbersome!

Best video I’ve seen on this remote. Here’s a question I can’t get an answer to elsewhere and you seem as knowledgeable as anyone on this. I’ve figured out everything I need to do except how to pause, fast forward, rewind, or skip either live tv or my dvr recorded programs. It’s an Arris dvr with frontier FIOS. I hate having to have our STB remote out just to do these. I’ve got the ir blaster from tv to STB so I can change channels, and I can get to dvr programs thru the … button and selecting menu, I just can’t figure how to FF, skip, etc. Any answers greatly appreciated.
I think you can pause by pressing the wheel down. Might not work in all apps.
Also annoying me greatly. We have a Humax box and have the same issue. Hoping an answer will get posted here...

I can't believe how complicated this remote is. I just want to watch tv. Thank you so much this video, though. You're an expert! we're actually decided to take it back becuase there's too much to learn. We ran into a problem where the little preview sceen when you fast forward is 10 minutes ahead of the show. it's not in sync. Do you know why that happened? thanks!
How do you use this remote to fast forward and pause an external dvd player connected to the tv?
It doesn't have an information button about any given show on any given channel. My cable remote has this. Am I missing it?

Hi there. Really helpful video as you don't seem to get instructions with a new LG tv anymore. I've installed a usb storage device, so i can record freeview play programs (which works fine). My question is, is there a way of pausing live tv (freeview play)using the remote? I thought pushing the middle button would do it, but nothing happens. When i was streaming on all4 last night, it worked then. Very bizarre. Any help would be appreciated 🙏👍

@grantthethirst415 no I haven't, unfortunately. If you have, please let me know. My usb storage has stopped working too. We just stream programs now, which we can pause, so not really a problem anymore 👍
No IR means it won’t connect to my Sonos sound bar. Get round was to buy an ‘LG’ generic IR remote from Amazon for £6. It works both the tv and Sonos sound bar . Job done

In the event of a problem with my LG I will refer to this video very informative. Recently tv screen was displaying no signal attach aerial, problem signal comes via external dish to the tv.
Very good thx I am sorted now. But I do miss the buttons lighting up when pressed also there is no fast forward or pause button which is a nuisance also no exit button as such. So disappointing. Thx Jenny

Thank you for this video. It has helped tremendously. Unfortunately, I am still in the dark about one thing. My dog, a 5 lb Yorkie, stepped on a button-I do not know which one-and now my remote is talking and explaining everything displayed on the TV at 90 MPH. It sounds like the chipmunks and is highly annoying. Do you know what setting I should go to to change the continuous fast-talking audio?
Your video has helped but we Wanted a direct button for subtitles, my husband slight hearing problem can’t hear accents! I’m ok so have to jiggle back & forth. We wouldn’t have bought this smart LG 43 if we had known this.
Could use a back light when you pick it up. Is there a written guide? Mine came with four pages of instruction , two of which were in Spanish.
VERY GOOD I havn't had time to sort through yet. Two suggestions. The french subtitles are right on top of the on screen display blocking it. LG tv start up may be well automated but its hopeless for me with my first smart tv and no internet. a solution from you ?

Great video but I just want to know how to pause programs as sometimes pressing the wheel works, most times it doesn’t and without being able to pause programs the whole remote, no matter how “smart” it is is completely useless”.

Great tutorial even a year later. But as I get familiar with this new TV and its “modern” Magic remote control. Countless forums and help videos have yet to solve the issue of being able to Program the remote to control volume when running optical output to a simple two channel stereo system!impossible to easily be able to integrate my two channel stereo system that does not have HDMI /ARC loop built-in. orward two steps back if it’s going to be two remotes again just to control volume!!

I got round this by setting up a short cut key for a terrestrial channel and another for a satellite channel
Hello, I am using the LG C1 and my magic remote is the same as you. The remote is NOT a Bluetooth ONLY remote. In fact it is an IR and Bluetooth remote combined. The power button is definitely IR. You may try to block the front of the remote and press the remote button and see if you can turn the TV on and off. The LG TV is so smart and can recognize my set top box brand and automatically allows my magic control to control my set top box with some limited controls such as PLAY PAUSE CHANGING CHANNEL. My set top box is IR only, so that proves the LG Smart control has IR function. Please try if you can use the smart remote to control you set top box. Have a nice play ;-) BTW: my set top box has recording function.
It can control your other devices through the HDMi connection.

Wow, that's a lot of great info. Every time I hit guide/list it starts with channel 2. Is there anyway to set the guide to start with the channel I am currently viewing (like very other remote in the world)?
I just got my c1 after my 2019 nanocell decided to display horizontal lines. I miss the pause and play buttons on the old remote. I hate they removed those…just clicking the middle button is clunky in some apps. In Disney+ you have to click it to get the play bar and then click it again instead of just hitting the pause button.
Still can not get my DVD player or X box hooked up. Last week I got a 5 way splitter so i can connect a blue ray player & my Roku up along with a wireless keyboard. I am trying to set up my Sony wireless headset. ( Mom say TV to loud @ 1 am kids will be kids ) Other than that this is a great set. My boy wants to connect his Firestick in port no. 2. 🙂 Thank u 4 posting. I will b back 4 more info.

It's a nightmare to use, having just come from a Panasonic tv the difference is massive, definately needs a backlight and play buttons, feels cheap as well, very clicky.
I just got my LG and I don’t like it either I wear fake nails and I have a hell of a time pushing that little button in the middle of the round control button 😮Also where is fast forward and rewind on this thing ? 😮 Why would it not have that 😮

You have numbers 1 to 8 which can be programmed.
for youtube tv now they’ve added the feature to go back using OK/Select button. which button is OK/Select on this remote?

Wish i could use the rollerball to do volume as well as/inatead of change channel. Or use up and down on the circular buttons instead. The actual volume buttons aren't in the best place ergonomically speaking.

FYI , Only way I found to “fast forward or rewind DVR recordings” is with voice commands feature and stop it with the remote click to play

Anywa, I've bought a new LG a little over 2 months ago and pretty much use it to watch DVDs or have it connected to my PC and work from there. I'm just so used to the PC and standard mouse that I didn't really need too much work with the LG remote other than settings, etc. I figured I'd learn the spoken word and other things when I got around to it.
Well. I got around to it. My girlfriend has a new LG 50" arriving Saturday and I know she won't be too keen on using a new remote that is much different and a bit complicated compared to her other smart tv standard Firestick type remote. So I'll need to at least get her up so speed on spoken word and accessing a site. No more than that. But I myself will utilize a lot more of it after watching this. Navigating from one setting, site, etc. without having to keep on backtracking and opening new screens will be a relief.
So basically it took me having to get my girlfriend up to speed on the remote to actually get MYSELF up to speed.

This video demonstrates the two biggest gripes I have with my new LG C1 TV. A slow, laggy UI, and a remote without backlit buttons. I really don't understand why all modern TV remotes don't have backlit buttons.
Voice control is great though rather than fiddley buttons. But I agree with ya.
After a month you won't look at the buttons.

Oldest model had physical play and pause button. Very useful to take instant action when phone is ringing or doorbell ring instead of using airmouse and click to on screen pause button.
Yeah - not happy to loose those buttons

@@johnthomas7124 Unfortunately some local streaming apps is not supporting center button pause function. Also sometimes it’s hard to press center button.
Yup, I am having no end of issues with no pause button and seriously thinking of taking the TV back because of it.

I have one issue with this remote and its quite annoying.
The volume control works well when using the internal loudspeakers of the TV. But when I use my home surround system (Yamaha) over HDMI arc, every step of adjusting the volume seems to give only half the change of level, compared to internal speakers. The result is that adjusting volume level is taking quite long time/ many steps.
Is there a way to fix this?
I also was thinking what a great thing if the wheel could be used for controlling the sound volume in some way. I think it's much more usable to change level than to scroll channels only.
Anyone seen a mod/setting for this?
